AZZURI WINS!!! Yeah, superb play by Cannavaro..with him on defense, Italy defense's line looks flawless. IMO he was man of the match.. Pirlo was also great, he gave accurate pass after accurate pass..and he's so calm when he possess the ball, he passes when it's really time to pass, nice playmaking by him (but he made a blunder I guess, lucky that Schneider finish it unsuccessfully ^^) Totti looks still afraid with his previous injury. I hope he'll play it better on the final. And Grosso once again made the victory goal..Great! Anyway, it's clear that Italy was playing for a win, meanwhile Germany is playing for a shoot-out (well, that's also playing for a win in a sense I guess). Nice victory by Italy! Congratz! Forza Azzuri! :flyaway :flyaway :flyaway |

Woooo! Nice performance Gianluigi Buffon! I never know any greater goalkeeper than him! ManU must purchase him! Too bad that the host lost. Italy was great after all. Their defense line was like a greatwall. Germany vs Italy 0 - 0 a.e.t 0 - 2 Goals: 3. GROSSO Fabio (119') 7. DEL PIERO Alessandro (121+') Summary: German dreams of reaching the FIFA World Cup™ Final on home soil died in Dortmund as two goals in the final moments of extra time carried Italy into the Final as 2-0 semi-final winners on Tuesday, 4 July 2006. With a penalty shoot-out looming, Fabio Grosso broke the deadlock in the 119th minute as he curled a left-footed shot past the despairing dive of Jens Lehmann from the right side of the penalty box. Substitute Alessandro Del Piero made sure of Italy's place in the Final when he beat Lehmann from close range in added time at the end of the extra period. Italy now advance to their first FIFA World Cup Final since 1994 and their sixth overall. They will face the winners of Wednesday's Portugal-France semi-final in Berlin's Olympiastadion on Sunday, 24 hours after Germany have contested third place with the losers of that match in Stuttgart. Campeoooone Campeooooone XD Grazie Mille Squadra Azzura XD We saw the difference when Germany plays against great teams. They do a lot less shots on goal so they are not that offensive we thought ^^' But at the same time, at this moment of the competition, it's very difficult to shoot. Great defence, especially of Fabio Cannavaro O_o... If France goes to final, Italy would like to have its revenge from Euro 2000 Go French ! There are a lot of Portuguese in France lol, as my city has a lot of Portuguese to XD |

i personally think that the germans rely to much on their strikers thats why when they face teams like italy or argen where they both won most of the possession in midfield ... the germans cant do much cos the strikers are isolated |

i just felt that the germans didn't reallly play the way they usually would....the flanks weren't fully utillised to stretch the italian defense...but well, thats over... time for portugal to show their worth.... ^^ |

SHUTTT UPPP!!! XD Haha...France won against Portugal. Portugal vs France 0 - 1 Goals: 10. ZIDANE Zinedine (33' PEN) Summary: Zinedine Zidane will finish his career on the greatest stage of all after his first-half penalty proved enough to take France past Portugal and into the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Final as 1-0 semi-final winners in Munich on Wednesday, 5 July 2006. Zidane scored two headers to help France beat Brazil in the 1998 Final and eight years later, in his final match before retiring, he has the chance to bow out with a second winner's medal in Sunday's Final against Italy in Berlin. France's winning goal came when Thierry Henry went to ground under a Ricardo Carvalho challenge after 33 minutes and Zidane struck his spot-kick low to Ricardo's right. They defended their lead comfortably save for one heart-in-mouth moment in the second half when Fabien Barthez spilled Cristiano Ronaldo's free-kick and Luis Figo headed the rebound over. Portugal, semi-final losers here just as they were in 1966, will contest the play-off for third place with Germany in Stuttgart on Saturday. ~ha ha I think if Portugal played serious, we should be in greater difficulties but they fell so easily to obtain penalty or free kick O_o (especially C. Ronaldo and Helder Postiga) Against Italy, it will be difficult, two great defence even if Barthez had less work than Buffon But like in Euro 2000, after 1st round, France beat Spain (the last goal was scored by Zidane), then in semi-final, they beat Portugal thank to a penalty of Zidane (like in 2006) and in final they beat Italy thank to a goal of Trezeguet...and like Saha, the 2nd forward is missed for next match, Trezeguet will probably substitute Henry during the game ^^' |

Check out their head to head records. http://www.rsssf.com/tablesf/franitares.html I still vividly recollect euro 2000, when the italians led 1-0 all the way to the 90th minute, (courtesy of Marco Delvecchio's goal in the 56th minute). Those on the bench were already celebrating, singing along and drinking champagne even before the match ended. Suddenly Wiltord's left-footed shot went by 4 or 5 defenders and Toldo, and into the net. The rest is history. |

Germany won! They've got the 3rd spot in this World Cup. GERMANY vs PORTUGAL 3 - 1 Goals: 7. SCHWEINSTEIGER Bastian (56') 8. PETIT (60' OG) 7. SCHWEINSTEIGER Bastian (78') 21. NUNO GOMES (88') Summary: Germany shrugged off the disappointment of their semi-defeat by Italy to claim third place at the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ by beating Portugal 3-1 in Stuttgart on Saturday, 8 July 2006. Bastian Schweinsteiger enjoyed a night to remember in the hosts' farewell match at these finals, scoring twice in the second half as Germany finished the tournament with the bronze medal - and 14 goals to their name, three more than any other team with just Sunday's Final to play. Schweinsteiger opened the scoring with a swerving shot from distance after 56 minutes and five minutes later the same player's low free-kick was diverted into his own goal by Portugal's Petit. With 12 minutes remaining Schweinsteiger struck Germany's third goal with a fine effort into the top corner before two Portugal substitutes conjured up a late consolation for Luiz Felipe Scolari's side. Luis Figo, on his final appearance for his country, sent over a perfectly placed cross for Nuno Gomes to head past Oliver Kahn, denying the German goalkeeper one last clean sheet before he too bowed out of the international arena. Budweiser Man of the Match: SCHWEINSTEIGER Bastian http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/ |
