Ad-Aware and Spybot-S&D is wad I use. First heard of these 2 from some CNN tech segment, and so far they seem reliable to me. |

Do they compatible with norton anti-virus? I have downloaded SpyFalcon and WinFixer. But my norton didn't like it. Norton re-considered them as viruses. |

My advice: DON'T use Norton or ZoneAlarm for ANYTHING! They are very inefficient and take way too much resources. I would go so far as to call ZoneAlarm malware in itself. I myself use Ad-aware for spy/ad/malware, CrapCleaner to clean the registry, eTrust EZ Antivirus and Sygate Personal Firewall Pro. I use Win2K, not XP, so I don't have to worry about the crappy built-in security and firewall features (I hate it when stuff is built-in and integrated, like Microsoft and Apple wants to make everything). Also, there is a program called Wintasks, which has a library of information about all the processes that can run on your computer. If you have a process running that you don't know, it is nice to have Wintasks to tell you what kind of process it is, and how you can shut down and remove it if it's harmful. |

Agree! I found myself quite stucked with Norton. This Norton always says 'save; when I run fullsystem scan. BUT when I used Nod32, it scaned for more than 30 threats?? Wow! What a miss! What do you think of Nod32 as anti-virus? And about these: Ad-aware for spy/ad/malware, CrapCleaner to clean the registry, eTrust EZ Antivirus and Sygate Personal Firewall Pro, are they compatible to each other? Where can I get them? For free? (for financial reason) And that wintask looks promising! |

Well... honestly speaking... to minimise spyware... I really recommend you to use Firefox... the number of spyware infiltrating my comp has dropped drastically after I switched to Firefox... of course not the plain Firefox... added with those really good extensions like NoScript *a must* and Adblock... one major advantage over IE... I only use Spyware Sweeper by Webroot. But so far no spyware detected due to my cautious surfing... Last time my old computer had too much spyware that I have to format it... from that time onwards I really took care of my comp :P Oh... btw... I think my Pc-Cilin Antivirus also have antispyware but I don't think that is good enough... |

Ad-Aware and CrapCleaner are free, Sygate is discontinued, as it has been bought by Norton and included in their Internet Security pack, but it is still possible to find older free non-pro versions on the web. Wintasks is $50, and EZ Antivirus €30, but trial versions exist. Get Ad-Aware here. Get CrapCleaner here. ...and I found a free version of SPF here. By the way! Firefox is not the only alternative to IE. I recommend Opera. I've been an avid user and crusader for it ever since v5.11 when i started using it, over 3-4 years ago. It is smaller, faster and just as, if not more customisable than FF. It has built in IRC client, email client, and from v9.0, which is now released as beta, even a BitTorrent client, as well as built-in widgets. Oh yeah, and it's free now too. :P Get Opera here! (sorry about the obvious sales pitch... :P) |

IMO, Firefox is still better with the tons of extensions it has, and if you're still not satisfied with that, you can always search for Greasemonkey scripts. Download firefox here: www.getfirefox.com. NoScript and Adblock are wonderful extensions that make Firefox exponentially safer to browse: NoScript and Adblock.. You'd also better get Adblock Filterset.G to get automatic updates for Adblock. Get it here: Adblock Filterset.G Updater. I would also recommend the excellent SiteAdvisor extension that displays ad- and spyware info about your current page in realtime. To read about it and download, visit www.SiteAdvisor.com. And about the software, the following are links to the best out there: Spybot S&D, Ad-aware Personal, Spyware Blaster, and Windows Defender. I use all of these and more on my machine. Don't forget to always keep them updated. |

Whoa! So many to explore! thanx a lot both Ifrit and Tiron. I'll check one by one from the links you both posted.
:) I'll see which one fits for me. And I'll stick with Firefox, I guess its faster to use firefox, and easy to use. Besides I have already getting used with firefox. But still I thanx you Ifrit for the Opera link. :) |
