Note: I'm really surprised that no one has made a thread on ORANGE RANGE yet. I was seriously waiting for a couple months to see if anyone was going to make one but since nobody has I decided to take the liberties in creating one for you all.
:) Posted Image Posted Image blue cat's Introduction: ORANGE RANGE is my favorite Japanese rock/pop/hip-hop band, and one of my favorite music artists (in general). What I love about their music is that they are so incredibly versatile in their sound (from the use of their instruments and vocals), music (they aren't afraid to try out different music genres from the likes of hard rock to experimental to electronica to jazz to ballad to pop, and they often succeed in doing well in any genre they tackle), and it certainly helps having three singers with three completely different voices. Currently the band is made up of 5 members; although they originally started out with 6 members (until their drummer, Katchan, left the band during July 2005). On a side note, they are the only Japanese artist so far that I've seen LIVE at a concert. I attended their last tour date of their NATURAL LIVE TOUR 2005 at the Yokohama Arena (last December 2005). To make a long story short, the concert was amazing and it was truly an unforgettable experience. :biggrin About the Band: Currently, ORANGE RANGE is made up of Naoto (the leader and guitarist), Yoh (bassist), Yamato (high-vox), Hiroki (mid-vox), and Ryo (low-vox). All the members of the band are from Okinawa and have known each other since childhood, but it was Naoto and Katchan (former drummer) who decided to form a band. They then got Hiroki to join (to sing for the band), and then recruited another friend Yoh to be the bassist. Yoh's younger brother Ryo was interested and he joined the group as another vocalist. The last member to join was Yamato (whom is often the goofy one of the band and is usually the most popular amongst the fans in Japan). ORANGE RANGE formed in 2001, and held as many gigs as possible; they actually played 70 gigs in one year alone. They got a record deal with Sony Records in 2003. And since then, they have released 3 albums, 12 singles, 1 remix album, and 3 DVDs. :D On a side note, Naoto's two older brothers are the members of the DJ-techno duo, RYUKYUDISKO that are mainly well-known for their remixes; they have remixed songs artists such as m-Flo, COOLON, laica breeze, ORANGE RANGE, and UVERworld. :P Discography: Singles -Kirikirimai (2003.06.04) -Shanghai Honey (2003.07.16) -Viva Rock (2003.10.22) ---> Ending theme for "NARUTO" anime -Rakuyou (2003.11.27) -Michishirube ~a road home~ (2004.02.25) ---> Theme song for "Fire Boys" dorama series -Locolotion (2004.06.09) ---> MATCH Drink CM Song -Chesuto (2004.08.25) -Hana (2004.10.20) ---> Ending Theme for Japanese film "Ima, ai ni yukimasu" -*~Asterisk~ (2005.02.23) ---> Opening Them for "BLEACH" anime -Love Parade (2005.05.25) ---> Ending Theme for Japanese film "Densha Otoko" -Onegai! The first campaign took place last year 2005 (around August, and went into the fall) and ORANGE RANGE used "GOD69" as the T&C CM Song. The second campaign started this year 2006 (around March, and is still going on) and ORANGE RANGE used "Walk on" as the T&C CM Song. Links: -orangerange.com -orangerange.net -townandrange.com Whether you are familiar with the band or not, if you haven't heard their music at least give them a chance!! If you like what you hear, then welcome to the world of ORANGE RANGE!! If you don't like what you hear, then no harm done. Regardless, ORANGE RANGE is currently one of the most popular and successful music acts in Japan, and they aren't going away any time soon. :) |

OOohh... Nice intro for OR blue cat
:) ... I somehow find Ryo's rapping part the most entertaining part in almost every song. His low vox mild rap definitely good and made OR song special. Just one thing I wanna ask... Is their stepping stone album their second album (MusiQ)~? as I find their first album (First Contact) isn't that nice (for me). |

Thanks, ZiN!! And, thanks for being the first to reply!! This topic thread is alreay so lonely... no love for ORANGE RANGE... I agree with you though about Ryo's voice. I definitely enjoy hearing him rap or sing in the songs. He has a deep voice but he doesn't have any ordinary deep voice; somehow it just feels unique, different than a lot of other Japanese rappers with deep voices. But, my favorite singer of the three vocalists in the band would have to be Yamato. Not only is he just a weird and wacky character, he's high pitched voice is cool and often quite amusing (but in a good way, of course)!! :D I definitely think that "musiQ" was the album that made them a huge hit, or as you so nicely put "their stepping stone album". It's true that they were already off to a great start and built a huge fan base with their 1st album, "1st Contact", but it was "musiQ" that allowed their popularity and sales to fly through the roof, and make them a well-reknown and well-respected band (esp. since they're so young). :) |

Don't worry blue cat... together we love Orange Range :toast: Speaking of Yamato~ yeah... he does look weird especially his dressing... low V-neck (in Kizuna) and sometimes he has some very weird not really suiting sunglasses on :D ... Posted Image Posted Image my friends were all laughing at him when I showed them OR vids :P but no doubt the trio voice are indeed a good combi. They are not a good looking band (unlike V6... News... KaTTun... etc etc) but with a lot of fans further proving that they are a very good band. I've heard the promo of Champione... it's a promosing song coming soon ^^ |

Again, THANK YOU, ZiN!!! :) :toast And about Yamato's looks... I remember when I showed a friend of mine the PV for "*~ASTERISK~", my friend was like... "DUDE THAT GUY LOOKS LIKE... SOME KIND OF INSECT!!!" And I was just like... "What... really?" And then I showed some other PVs of ORANGE RANGE to two other of my friends and they were like "that guy looks like an ALIEN!!" It's funny since one of Yamato's nicknames (that he even calls himself) is "Alien YMT"!!! But, I don't think he's that strange looking as many people make him out to be. Even before I was a fan of ORANGE RANGE and I saw him, I didn't think anything of his looks. I have this poster of the band in my room and my roommate's girlfriend looked at it and was like "that is by far the ugliest group of guys I've ever seen!!" and I was just like "what?!?!?!" Again, I don't think they're ugly. They do look a bit strange but it's not the looks that matters (esp. since they're not a pop boy group like one of the Johnny's Jr. groups), it's their talent and skills as musicians, and they definitely prove that they are that good!! :) Lastly, by "promo of Champione" are you referring to the short 30-sec audio sample of "Champione"? I heard a long version (not the full version though) of it and it's soooooo good!!! It's great to hear new ORANGE RANGE material at last!! If you want, I can upload it for you. :D EDIT: Here it is!! Everyone interested, please remember that this is NOT the full version of ORANGE RANGE's upcoming 13th single "Champione". Aside from that, I hope you enjoy the song as it'll give you a good taste of what to expect in the full version!!! :) ORANGE RANGE - Champione (*NOT FULL VERSION*) (mp3) http://beta.yousendit.com/transfer.php?act...B24C8612A94C81F |

That's so true and it's very strange about how there aren't as many ORANGE RANGE fans amongst YUI fans. I wonder why... it's true that they are both completely different kinds of music... I know that there's a lot of people that don't like O.R. when they've never even given them a chance by listening to their songs, or they just judge the band based on one single that they heard (and may not have liked). It's a shame. Many of those people don't think they're that good, but... point in fact, if they weren't that good, then they would not have reached the success that they have now. People should give them a chance. :) |

rrr...forgive me for not being into OR...I know they're good..They won many awards and have achieved lots of things...And I think if I give them a chance I would probably be into them as well... The thing is I dun really like male vocal(!) For me, a male vocal in a song is like the song being handicapped...rrr...I know this is ridiculous and if you like music you should only care about the music itself and not be biased by whether it's sung by male or female..But that's just me. Well, I do have some male-vocal band which I like very much like L'arc and AKFG...In that case the music pays off the vocal and maybe in the future I would feel the same about OR. Maybe it's only a matter of time until I start to give them a chance. However it's not that easy for me to start listening to new male-vocal band while I have other songs around (with female vocal) which I know I will enjoy them ^^ But after reading all these recommendations I promise you guys I will give them a chance. In the near future probably ^^ |

Oh, SWEET!!! I own all their albums (except "Orange Ball") and own half of their singles too!!! As well as all their DVDs, a couple OR t-shirts, OR posters, the BLOOD ORANGE magazine book, and many more OR goodies!! :) My favorite album is probably (still) "musiQ". It's hard for me too choose actually cuz all three of their albums (not including "Orange Ball" or "Squeezed") are very different. "1st Contact" has a very raw sound to it and focuses more on rock, "musiQ" focuses more on pop, and "NATURAL" is just a melting pot of all these different genres of music infused with electronic/rock/pop. :D |

Awesome!! The only reason I don't have "ORANGE BALL" (well actually, I own all the songs from that album in mp3 format, but I don't own the actual CD) is cuz I don't like a lot of the songs on it; it sounds old and too raw. The only song I really like is "Soujuugo" which I realllllly wished the band would re-master and release as a single one day... :) Plus, I like the "1st Contact" versions of "Kirikirimai" and "Velocity 3000" a lot better. I'll buy the album one day (just to have it in my ORANGE RANGE collection), but... when I have money. For now, I'll wait. :P To me, I still consider "1st Contact" as ORANGE RANGE's FIRST album. And it's true that it IS their first album for a major label, while "ORANGE BALL" is their indies album. Same goes for YUI. I still see that "feel my soul" is her FIRST single, since "It's happy line" is her indies single. |

I just realized... we are all about a week and a half away from the release of the "Champione" single!!!!! Champione (2006.05.10) Posted Image 1. Champione 2. Walk on For those of you who don't know (and/or are unfamiliar with most of ORANGE RANGE's discography), "Champione" is their 13th single!! The song "Champione" is NHK TV Japan's Theme Song for the broadcast of the 2006 World Cup (in Germany). While the other song "Walk on" is both the ending theme song for the Japanese film, "Chekeraccho!!" (currently in theaters in Japan), and is the current CM song for T&C Surf Designs (in Japan). Also, here are the Promotion Videos (PV) both "Champione" and "Walk on". Rarely do I ever ever see a band release back-to-back PVs for a single!!! :) ORANGE RANGE - Champione (PV) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WA602HM7 http://www.sendspace.com/file/5vkzyo AND ORANGE RANGE - Walk on (PV) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UV311Q2F http://www.sendspace.com/file/awfm7i Personally, my favorite PV between the two is the "Walk on" PV. ENJOY!!! :) :biggrin |

It's the OST for the "Fire Boys" TV drama series. ORANGE RANGE provided the theme song for the drama, with their song "Michishirube ~a road home~". I'm still not sure why that "Fire Boys" OST is included on their discography, cuz ORANGE RANGE provided songs for other dramas/films (like "Orange Days", "Ima, ai ni yukimasu" (both the film and TV drama), "Densha Otoko", "Chekeraccho!!", etc.) but the OSTs for those aren't on their discography. It's strange...
