YUI Lover & Knight!

I know nothing bout guitar, but I always heard of Yamaha as the best. :)
I'm very proud with the way this forum develops without me.
It's way better then when I started.
Great job to our current active admins and mods.
I can rest assured that this forum is in safe hands!

hehe, excellent...

well, if you're okay with buying online, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND ...

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/

trust me...this is a trust worthy site, and, there's a HUGE sale goin' on there as of now!

okay, now for the guitars!

hmm...with a $200 range, i'd say the best brand you should go for is either, Yamaha, or Fender...BOTH really good brands! it's just a matter of your personal taste...

but like you said...you wanna learn and "get good at it"...so if you're really serious about it, id go for an "acoustic electric"...this type of guitar is in the form of an acoustic, and handles like an acoustic too! XD but what sets it aside from the normal acoustic, is that when you plug it into an amplifier, it can reach and attain the sound of an electric!!! XD~~~

this way, if you DO get the acoustic electric, it's good to just play around with, jam with it, but when you're ready, you can buy the other accessories (amplifier, guitar cable/chord, and if you want effect pedals) to make it even more fun! hehe

also, you said you wanted it to look similar to YUI's, ne?

well, YUI's acoustic electric is a Fender...(resource taken from LIFE pv, tv performances, including photoshoots...)

here's a similar one i found with a very reasonable price!

very similar, ne? the only difference (i think) is just this one has a pick guard (the black tear drop shape plate next to the guitar hole), and YUI's guitar does not...

okay, well, check that site out, n i hope this info helps you out!

happy shopping! ^_^

I've generally heard that it's a good idea for us Canadians to buy Canadian-made guitars (Seagull, Simon & Patrick, etc.), since the necks of other guitars tend to get distorted or separate at the neckjoint more easily in our dry winters. Canadian ones are built with that in mind, so they're supposed to be more durable. My acoustic is a Simon & Patrick. It has a really nice sound, but I think it was in the low-$300 range. Whichever brand you end up getting though, I would recommend getting a guitar humidifier to keep it in good shape.

Besides that, I would suggest just going into some guitar stores and trying them out to see what you like. Long & McQuade would be a good start - they have a big selection and really helpful, knowledgeable staff.

Actually Yamaha is far from the best. It's actually cheaply made in my opinion but it's enough for a beginning musician with a budget. Yamaha pianos on the other hand, are awesome :P

i got my guitar for 150 USD(yamaha/acoustic-same in the pic). its 100 dollars off so the actual price is like 250 dollars. It does include a dvd lesson for beginners, carrying case, etc. I was lucky coz they have it on sale that day.
