Hello guys. New to this site. Im a grad trainee have been with the company nearly two years now. In regards to this new pay grading scheme. I personally think that its like what politicians do all the time. "Have a tax cut!!, but we are raising fuel prices!!"

You get more clarity apparently, but are people now being paid the same amount of money if they are equally skilled. I still doubt it, as wages have always been the biggest kept secret since ive started here.

And this time in lieu crap! I bet that most managers won't let you take it when it might be useful to you but you will end up having random hours here and there when you dont want them. For most people working for wolseley money is an issue, and whilst there is clarity now im fearful about what opportunities there will be to move up the scale.

sorry about the rant! I've spent all my time in branches and have a certain amount of loyalty to the people who actually bring the money in.

hi bulkbag4ever
we are on our 4th graduate now, the 1st 3 were all for wolseley and how it operated and they have been great people to work with while the 4th has been with us since september and he has pretty much said the same as you. the pay cut (sorry i meant review) wouldn't be so bad if wolseley were losing money or the top brass had taken pay cuts themselves, but of course that would never happen. the point is, whats the long term plan :o
i'm sticking to my own plans, 1/2 hour dinner, go home 1/2 earlier and i dont think i'll bother with saturdays (inc stocktake) my flexi time

I can see this new flexi time system getting confusing!

Personally I don't need any more time off, although as plumbian said having half an hour for dinner and leaving half an hour is pretty good!

What I don't understand is that since this pay review Wolseley have redefined the term 'overtime', now when an employee spends more TIME at work which takes their working hours OVER their 40 hours a week, it seems that this time is no longer worth time and a half.

As of early 2009, all employees in the UK will be entitled to 30 days holiday a year, excluding bank holidays, so with this and staff getting time off instead of paid overtime we will all be covering for our colleagues in under staffed branches much more than ever before.

Actually I think I read that wrong, it actually seems that it will be 28 days.

Although now I'm unsure if bank holidays (8 days per year) could be included in that figure? I doubt it though as we have always had bank holidays off work as well as our holiday entitlement.

I'm pretty sure that the total includes bank holidays. Can't see wolseley voluntarily adding massively to the wage bbill! ;)

I know what you mean, however if they include the bank holidays we would only really be getting 20 days holiday a year! we all lost our xmas bonus for the extra holidays we were given (which gave everyone 25 days a year) so we would actually be worse off! and I doubt we'll ever see that xmas bonus again

Yes after what i have read, you will get double time for bank holidays, Also to answer the question about saturday mornings, your right it wont be overtime it will be paid at single time if on a 40 hour contract, time off if on a 45 hour contract. Hope that clears things up.
