nah mate, i think we are all awaiting with baited breath for the wages results (well i am for my staff!) theres rumbles of a mass exodus if these wages are not up to scratch anyway, and i know of 4 people already who just cannot wait and jumped ship (inc 1 manager and a branch super) due to more money been wafted under their noses by others - wolseley thought they were been cute by holding off announcing the rates until feb, well all the compo has done is chuck another 1k-2k per year onto an offer and hey presto back to last year and the year before that etc.
in the parts world DHS are out to hurt w.u.k in a big way, plumbase are making sites open to complete with plumb ctr almost overnight and nobody above the branch level seem to care enough. watch this space 2008 is gonna be a big year one way or another!!!

It has been pretty quiet recently, I still find it frustrating that it's so difficult to reach out to more wolseley employees as I'm sure most would be more than happy to register here and contribute to the discussions.

So to try and help please tell as many staff as you can about WF !

As oldskool said, many are probably waiting to see how they do in the new pay system.

Hmm, interesting.

Do you mind saying how much your basic was increased by?

Surely it was either very little or you do ALOT of overtime?

hello BLABBER. my hourly rate will increase by 11p,my overtime is 16 hours a month (saturday mornings). overtime payments will stop and we will get time off in leu instead. saturday mornings will be part of the normal working week, 4 hours work = 4 hours time off. a lot of people will be financialy worse off but they'll have more time at home to worry about it!

Bloody Hell, that's shite!

11p an hour increase is pathetic.

Surely there would need to be a new contract of employment that would require the agreement of the employees and a signature if there is a change to working hours?

As of April this year the Minimum wage should increase to £5.80, this should mean a pay rise for many employees anyway.

Hickory, has your manager been through a one to one to explain how the new structure will work? I'm pleased that after shouting about it for the last twenty years there is at least some kind of structure in place and staff will be aware of what skills/responsibility they need to achieve in order to improve their salary.

In my Division, I understand that aproximately 50% of non-managerial staff will benifit, (apparently we are reasonably well paid in comparisson to some) it's quite a bit more in others. From what I've seen of the London weighting that looks pretty good. They way that it was explained to me, it dosen't mean the end of overtime, there is some choice. However I think that they expect overtime to reduce in order to balance the books. I suppose time in lieu dosen't pay the gas bill.

Having read the five month trading statement on the PLC website, I'm suprised that WUK are still going ahead with the review as these are the worst trading conditions for many years. Although it's no comfort to those at the bottom end of the scale, Mr Sibley must have had real battle to get this approved by PLC.

hello mosstrooper, my manager explained the new pay structure with me thoroughly and was quite specific about the overtime, we will be given time in leu full stop, although i've heard that this may not be the case in some areas. i will be taking home at least thirty pounds a week less, after tax, and i'm not the only one, some will be even worse off.

Hello guys. New to this site. Im a grad trainee have been with the company nearly two years now. In regards to this new pay grading scheme. I personally think that its like what politicians do all the time. "Have a tax cut!!, but we are raising fuel prices!!"

You get more clarity apparently, but are people now being paid the same amount of money if they are equally skilled. I still doubt it, as wages have always been the biggest kept secret since ive started here.

And this time in lieu crap! I bet that most managers won't let you take it when it might be useful to you but you will end up having random hours here and there when you dont want them. For most people working for wolseley money is an issue, and whilst there is clarity now im fearful about what opportunities there will be to move up the scale.

sorry about the rant! I've spent all my time in branches and have a certain amount of loyalty to the people who actually bring the money in.
