All employees have been invited to submit questions about the new policy to their managers, this is the list so far, if anyone can think of any more? Which external professional agency is being used for the tests and are they officially accredited? How can employees be sure that these urine/blood tests will not be used for other purposes such as detecting illness or pregnancy then dismissing employees accordingly to avoid long term sick pay or maternity leave? Which random drug testing selection systems is being used to ensure that specific individuals are not unfairly targetted? Which test is being used, and what substances are being tested for? Statistically how often can an individual expect to be tested? Why was it felt that that no consultation with employees was necessary prior to the announcement of this policy? |

Another question following discussions: The introduction of this policy is likely to increase short term absentee rates, is this why we are now using the Bradford index for absence management? |

These questions have now been submitted to my manager, I will update the post if/when any responses are received. Incidentally another question was mentioned to me (unfortunately after the list had been sent, but anyone can feel free to use it: How much will the implementation and running of this policy cost? A fair question as it seems strange that the company has the money for schemes such as this, but no cash for anything else! |

the testing is done by a 3rd party who will respond and hit the branch within a 2 hour timeframe, all staff get tested at the same time and then beginth the process. like you say, amazing that such a scheme although good to certain degree can be brought in so wolseley seem to be back in line with the law after flouting it for the past 30 odd years yet branches are still ran understaffed and under resourced to make the figures to the plc. 3rd party drug testers who work under lab conditions in a 2 hour timeframe don't seem like they come on the cheap......... |

totally agree fella, i don't want wolseleys version of pete docherty endangering my life either, there has been scare stories and tatics going on since july time (even the though this started june) and the approach to drugs misuse must be harder. my concern is that a heavy weekender on the pop could lead to problems monday morning both for staff and managers - more sickies will be taken, watch this space.... |

So you really think that someone who smoked a couple of joints almost a fortnight ago whilst on holiday poses a danger to your safety? It appears like the company does not even have the decency to respond to the questions that they requested, why am I not surprised? |
