Alcohol Testing isn't done on the basis of determining whether you have or have not consumed any alcohol recently. A positive or negative result is based on whether you are currently have a level of alcohol in your blood in excess of a preset limit. This limit is judged to be sufficient to impair your ability to function optimally. I understand that this may well be classed as a Health & Safety issue for those who operate machinery, driver company vehciles or use MHE.

Drugs testing however in entirely different. A standard drugs test is designed to detect whether you have traces of a substance in your urine/blood. Depending on the substance, strength and the metabolism of the individual some positive results can be detected up to a month after consumption. Are Wolseley seriously claiming that a cannabis joint smoked on a weekend break poses a serious threat to the health & safety of fellow employees!

Whilst I am painfully aware that we live in a corporate dominated nanny state, what is the next step, will Wolseley's security cameras be used to spot passing motorists who are not wearing their seat belts, perhaps new employees will be required to produce evidence that they are not bigamists prior to gaining employment, perhaps this the first step to the privatisation of our police force?
