UK Business News Cinven not interested in Wolseley Posted on : Wed, 14 Feb 2007 14:36:01 GMT | Author : James Simpson News Category : UK (Business) LONDON - Private equity firm Cinven is not in the market for building products firm Wolseley, a source close to the situation confirmed thus refuting newspaper rumors which had said such a deal was in the offing. "The idea was proposed to Cinven by a bank, but Cinven is not interested," the source was quoted as saying on Reuters. The City AM newspaper had first broken the news that Cinven was considering a bid of 10-billion-pound-plus for Wolsley. The paper also said that Cinven was being advised by Goldman Sachs and had been looking out for Wolseley for the last three months. This news had sent Wolsley's shares up by over 8.5 percent. However after news of Cinven's disinterest filtered out, the shares edged down, but were still up by 4.3 percent at 1,368 pence in mid-morning trading. "An investment bank brought the idea to us but we are not looking at it," the Cinven source confirmed. |
