Wolseley would like these forums closed, mainly due to the company having no control over who becomes a member and who sees the posts, could there be an alternative? I personally would have no objection to the forums being only accessible via the company intranet as long as they would still be completely un-censored and anonymous and that the company would promote them as a means of better communication. However I would prefer to keep them on the internet as they are and maybe if there was some method of only allowing genuine employees to become members, such as only sending membership verifications to wolseley email addresses or similar and not allowing visitors to view the posts. |

i think the forum is fine as it is, it would be good if wolseley could be involved with this site but i think the "live chat" is a good indication of what the forum would be like if they had total control, there is nothing wrong with us giving our own views, in fact it would be good if wolseley openly promoted this site so all staff can have a fair say. it could even save wolseley some money instead of wasting it on surveys which are completely useless, but wolseley management haven't thought of this yet !! |

Personally, after the propaganda show that was the 'Live and Online' sessions, I wouldn't trust the info on this forum if I knew it was under Wolseley control. I would NOT use this forum if I knew there was any chance Wolseley could pick and choose what posts get seen. If I want to see smiley happy success stories, I'll read Connections magazine, thanks! Also, if it were to be only made accessible via the intranet, does that mean we all get thin-pc's? Doubt it. The only people that would get regular access would be managers. If this forum went intranet-only, you would lose many lower level regular contributors. Plus, if your area has a similar staffing problem to ours, chances are your branch is under-staffed anyway, so when would we get the time to use it? In summation, keep it on the net where we can access it; where employees of all levels and departments can contribute to it; and where the stories and opinions voiced will be uncensored, unvetted and truthful, be they good or bad! |

guys, you cant let wolseley own this forum - companies have been known to do things like this. I Support the EFF - Freedom of speech on-line. I do not believe we would have this if we knew that our managers knew exactly how we felt about the company, or link names to forum posts this could be very dangerous. Putting it on the Intranet would allow the powers that be to specifically identify the user and workstation that it was accessed from, by using pass through authentication. |

Firstly I would like to welcome you to the forums Icebreaker, secondly I'm pleased that you support both these forums and freedom of speech in general. Now you've made me aware of the EFF I felt I should also show my support and so I've included a link to the EFF site and have displayed the blue ribbon on the Wolseley Forums home page. |
