Whilst working at a branch last week, it was made aware to me that the only access to the counter was via a flight of steps which must surely contravene the rules for disabled access.

Now I don't profess to be too knowledgeable on the latest access rules etc but I would have thought that we could be breaking the law again

Does anyone know if trade counters are exempt from access regulations because they aren't classed as retail, or do the laws cover all premises?

Interesting point, I'm not sure either?

found this though: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3139114.stm

I was going to say I can't remember ever seeing a wheelchair user on our trade counter, but as the door opens outwards and the gap probably isn't wide enough for a wheelchair then I suppose it's not surprising!

Our counter door opens outwards too, with an unhelpful raised lip! But we have still had several wheelchair using customers. However, all of them did have someone with them, or were assisted promptly by a counter guy. But I would have to say the general access route is not wheelchair friendly.

I could be wrong but I think as long as a wheelchair can access the building it is ok.
Through the warehouse doors etc.
