I missed a couple of games here...the women went 1-1 in their Easton Shootout, beating Maine 5-2 in the opener and then losing 6-5 in ot to New Hampshire. And last night they took down Mankato 4-1 in the teams conference opener. The team was ranked #2, behind Wisconsin in the WCHA coaches poll, and ranked #5 in the first USCHO poll of the season. And just something I noticed about that poll; it is dominated by eastern school teams, as the WCHA is has only 3 of the top 10, Wisconsin #1, Minnesota #5, and Duluth #7. |

The women's polls always seem to be dominated by eastern teams. There's more depth out east just because there are more teams than in the WCHA. But just wait until the end of the year and we'll see which conference is on top.

I guess now that I think about it, aren't those three teams historically the only ones who make the poll anyhow? I mean Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Duluth are the only real power-house teams that the WCHA has, right? |

You are correct, those are the 3 WCHA teams that are usually the strongest & they're the ones who have won NCAA titles. However, the WCHA is getting stronger - look for Mankato to crack the polls sometime this year and maybe SCSU and/or OSU if they're really lucky.
