Hey, one thing that really bugged me coming out of the lock-out...when there was a penalty call, the referee would skate to make an appearance and turn on his mike announcing the penalty...glad to see that proceedure is gone. |

I thought the ref with the mike was neat. They did it here in SC, and we noticed that some refs didn't call as much as they normally would when they were mic'd

If that was truly the case, I'm all for it. I saw the whole thing as another example of the NHL's inferiority complex...trying to become the NFL on ice. The next thing we'll have is the arena announcer telling us who shot the puck over the glass or who was offsides. <_< |

well, the whole mic thing was probably to make the casual fan more knowledgable. While we're at it, let's start having 3 point shots

Being mic'd and having the mic used to announce penalty's are two different things...I love it when the players or officials have the mic, as it's cool to hear the sounds of the game. But to announce penalties? It's not like hockey has a ton of different infractions that it is difficult to pick up the signal. And if you're at the rink, you'll hear it fromt he pa guy...or on tv from the broadcast crew. I put this gimick as an equal a joke as the glow puck was. And btw, last nights game on versus the clown was using his mic to call penatlies. |
