It was indeed an amazing and impressive win built not only on teamwork but also the sheer class of Bradd Wierzbicki. After over 10 years warching the BBL it's difficult to remember such a quarter from any one player - in the fourth he was electric. It would be interesting to know what Rob said at half-time. The quarter scores tell it all: Q1 Riders 28 - 23 Wolves (Riders by 5) Q2 Riders 40 - 54 Wolves (Wolves by 19) Q3 Riders 68 - 70 Wolves (Riders by 12) Q4 Riders 96 - 87 Wolves (Riders by 11) J Johnson - 17 pts; 9/12 FT's. I bet it's not that often that such a high % of his points come from the line - he'd certainly been practising since I last saw him. He remains something of an enigma, to me. Some strange and careless decisions, but in the third he noticeably stepped up the effort. Had to sit down for much of Q4 on 4 fouls. L Williams - 9 pts; 3/3 FT's. Played some fantastic D again, particularly against Skouson in the first quarter and scored two great crowd-pleasing allez-oop dunks. S Durant - 0 pts. I was disappointed by him - 0 points from a starter that got plenty of minutes, and he wasn't effective at boxing out under the basket often enough. B Wierzbicki - 38 pts; 4 x 3; 6/8 FT's. Absolute pure class and determination. His 15 points in the final quarter capped a fine performance, stepping up to the plate after his backcourt partner had disappeared off (more of which in a moment!). He ran the point for much of the game, sank 3's and took the ball to the hoop with several amazing moves. The decision to throw up an allez-oop for LT when it was only a 3-point game with 1.12 remaining was either brave or foolhardy & rightly brought the JSSC to its feet. T Minor - 9 pts; 1 x 3; 0/1 FT's. Mr overhype of the year? I know there will be howls of protest from the Riders faithful and I'll probably read that he had 27 stitches in a cut or something later, but what an prize prat he looked on today's performance. He started well enough with some nice moves, but after a collision left the court with 2 minutes left in Q1. He was patched up in the changing room and re-appeared for a minute or so in the second. After throwing up an airball, he ran back on defence and attempted to strangle a Wolves player. Quite how he avoided being called for an unsportsmanlike foul I have no idea, but he was subbed off and disappeared to the changing rooms. He was seen leaving the gym as half-time approached, dressed in civvies, bag over shoulder. Apparently he was suffering from double-vision and was taken to hospital, for which I wish him well, but the last time I saw such a stupidly petulant performance from a point guard it was his coach that was responsible! If he wasn't fit to be on court, he only had to say... T Windless - 9 pts; 3/5 FT's. Mr experience gave it all he had in the second half; how Rob must be glad that he returned this season. B Lamble - 4 pts; 2/2 FT's. Did a bit of a DC early on, but was superb in the second half (ignoring a few misplaced passes!) - again his effort on D was great and his 4 final quarter points contributed to the overall team effort. Got a few minutes extra as JJ went onto 4 fouls early in the final quarter so had to sit down until the last 2 minutes. A Westbrooks - 6 pts. Once again I couldn't work out why he was on court in the first half, when he got plenty of minutes after Tack's exit. However, he was like a man possessed after the break with tigerish defence and all 6 points scored in that dramatic third. A Williams - 4 pts; 1 x 3; 1/2 FT's. Neither I nor anyone around me could work out why he remained on the bench until the last 4 minutes of the third quarter - it was quite bizarre; especially as Wolves made hay in Q2. His first shot was his converted 3 which was the spark for the Q3 recovery. His Dad enjoyed the game in the end, after asking me at half-time if it was his or my fault that Riders played so badly whenever we came... I Westbrooks - DNP, wasn't suited up. This coupled with Mr Minor's indisposition made Adam's time on the bench even more strange. Wolves started well enough, but seemed rather stunned by the Riders frenetic defending in the third quarter. Riders pressed for much of the second half and Wolves never quite found their way out of it. I supposed this is why we pay our money. At half-time I was wondering why I'd bothered to drive up the M69, by the middle of the third I was gripped by the collective effort of the Riders and the feeling of belief that gradually crept through the JSSC crowd. I'm sure even Solly will have to admit that the best team on the day won it! Edited by NickM, Nov 8 2009, 02:11 AM.

Great game, Great Comeback, Great display from Bradd. I think its a poor post from NickM regarding Tack. He got a whack in the eye and tried to come back and carry on but couldn't before going to hospital. Mr Overhype of the year???????????? Well BBL player of the Month says not and I'm not sure what your trying to get at by posting that. Yes after throwing up that airball he committed a blatant foul so he could get off the court. An attempted Strangle? I think not. Well done Rob and the boys!!! |

Well done to the Riders for last night's win. Sounds like the game was very "Up and Down". Sounds also like we just couldn't handle Wierzbicki down the stretch. Nice to see that our latest lithuanian,Nerijus, contributed well in his first game. Best Wishes to the Riders in the semi's!!! C'MON YOU WOLVES!! |

i dont understand the negative comments about tack.I think hes the most natrualy gifted point guard this club has ever had.Riders fans need to get behind him and give him there full support.Hes the type of player who could bring silverware to our club.I think hes the best player in this league by a long margin.some fans are never happy.Hes the best in scoring&assists ,hes quick, athletic and exiting to watch and hes not affraid to get into the paint and grab the boards puting his body through the pain to try and get the w for his team. What more do you want from one player? But anyway last night was not about tack but a great team performance,i dont think any other team in the L could of pulled out a win from 14 points down and having its 1st and 2nd choice point guards out injured.great fight from our team.

Totally agree with the above post except for one aspect - Tack only had to tell the coach he couldn't continue instead of committing the overly dramatic foul to make his exit. That was drama queenish. Apart from that I think he is brilliant. Who's perfect? We are lucky to have him and I really hope he's alright. We need him and Isaac fit to play - Bradd was awesome and deserves huge praise for his steely determination and skill in steering us to a W.

Yes, well done indeed to the Riders. After last week, I thought we would have a chance, but could not have imagined that we would be 18 pts (!) up shortly after the break. What a reversal of fortune once Leics put the press on. We indeed couldn't handle it. Wrublewski was awesome, albeit he does take a lot in order to make a lot. NickM, thanks for the explanation on Minor, I had wondered what had happened to him. The way he departed the court was almost the basketball equivalent of the Tyson/Holyfield ear-biting incident - if he wanted out of matters then why not express this in a less dramatic (and potentially less-dangerous) way? Having said that, I am pretty sure all Wolves fans would swap little more than half the talent Minor has in exchange for both of our Americans. On that note, I would be interested to hear the opinions of others on the Wolves American duo (e.g. if you did not have a programme, would you have even known who they were?). Good luck in the rest of the cup, especially if you take on those ego-laden Everton Tigers. |

Your number 4 (Lithuanian?) was the stand out player for Worcester. I thought you looked a good, well coached, outfit. |

Agree with Nick M about Adam Williams, but I would like to voice my concerns more vociferously! How on Earth is he not getting more minutes? Every time he comes on, something good seems to happen. Last night he provided a spark on defence and offence. I think he is one of the most under-rated players in the league, not just at Riders. |

I did invite the Riders faithful to come on and defend Tack, which they've done in droves.... Certainly his numbers are impressive, but his exit was so Paternostroesque that it was funny - and it's not the first time. Was he on the way to hospital when he got ejected previously? Seriously, I hope he's okay and look forward to actually seeing him play a full game one day! More pertinent to me was the way that the others stepped up without him, which bodes well for the rest of the season. Certainly the Wolves imports (including Skouson for once) were relatively anonymous - Solly: why do Wolves continue to refuse to put players' names on their vests? I know that it can be a bit of a revolving door at times, and there are some great Lithuanian names to test out the lettering dept, but it would make following your guys much easier. I knew you'd spot DC, Tim, and hopefully it raised a smile with Solly too. To be fair, Barry put in more effort in the second half yesterday than DC ever did in a Bullets vest. |

Tack Minor's left eye had swollen so much it had closed, a legit injury. Adam Williams was suffering with illness, as confirmed to me by Rob afterwards. |

Great 2nd half display by the team. Bradd has been slightly overshadowed by tack so far but he is a standout player and I think we should appreciate the fact we have a very good team this year. What happens now?? Is it a neutral venue for the semi final or is it a two leg affair etc |

Good win and another great comeback, even without Tack, who is usually the one to lead the charge. Bradd can step up when needed though and he obviously did that once again. I agree re I doubt there are many teams that would have came from 18 behind to win without their two point guards- shows the team has good fight. As for the other guys- good to see Aaron getting decent minutes and playing some tough D, with Tony showing his class yet again and Jason doing a good job getting to the line. Shaun having another quiet game is shame after two better performances last weekend but good to see that Barry had one of his better games. With regards to Tack, I would agree he is probably the most naturally talented player the club has had and also the best player in the league. As far as I can see all Riders fans are behind him. Hopefully we will have at least one PG fit for Friday- heard in the week there was a chance Isaac might play in the game last night, but obviously wasn’t ready. Hopefully Tack is ok and we will be able to finally get a W down in Plymouth! Edited by Ben, Nov 10 2009, 05:58 PM.

Now were in the semi's Who do we want to play?? Sheffield who are on fire, But remember that thrashing 113-93 we gave them on the first game of the season! Or Everton who are always tough, But we beat them just 98-95 on the third game of the season! Myself I'd take the Tigers as I love To see Tony G spitting his dummy when he looses And as revenge for them knocking us out of the playoffs |

Riders dont have any free Saturdays this year so I guess the home leg will be on a Wednesday. Sheffield have two Fridays free......27/11 and 04/12 Not sure about Evertons free dates. (I think Sheffield will beat them anyway) |
