Game Report now up at www.ridersbasketball.net

A stunning finish to a really fast paced shootout of a game, we came up just short......................

Well done to Wolves who played hard throughout.

Disappointing loss after the hard fought win against Heat. As keeps being said- shows just how competitive the league is this year. Even teams such as Newcastle who have managed to grind out results in the past have had a couple of losses early on. It is proving especially difficult to get results on the road so home advantage is all the more important (I’m sure the crowd played a big part in the comeback on Saturday) but with there being a lot of Riders fans at Worcester yesterday, it must have gave them a lift (although I’m sure we were still tired from the night before)?

Another great comeback (which we seem to be producing nearly every game) but I think if we focused for 40 minutes then we wouldn't need to be climbing all that way back. A nice effort though, would think that was as good as Worcester have played so far. We just need work on our transition D as I think that is where we seem to be having problems- with us being so fast up the court it is sometimes difficult to for us get to back once we turn the ball over.

As for individuals- Tack had 31, a huge score for anyone else but just another game for him! Bradd had 24 so obviously some nice shooting there. Shaun had a double double to carry on his good form this weekend. Good to see Adam getting more minutes the last few games too.

With the Jets game cancelled, we only have one game at the weekend- against Worcester again in the Cup so will hope to get back at them and start off a cup run as it looks as if this is probably one of our best chances of silverware this season.

Having been to the game yesterday I have two thoughts on the game,

First we should have won and won well by a biggish score, as on paper were better, In the third quarter our defence went to sleep we colud not stop the Wolves scoring to save our life, I think Tack's moves to the basket were being found out far to easily and the ball was then turned over to easy,I know he scored 30 odd points, but the same move gets found out!
Our last play, I would have put my house on Tack (Not to score but to drive to the basket and get blocked out), Why not pass to a man who we know can drop a big 3 in the last second and win the game, We all know thats Bradd, I came away from this game a far from happy man :pullhair

Second and by far better thoughts, Wolves deserved the win and by a much bigger score, I think most of us expect to much of this team, Last season was fantastic but this team is not quite as good, I'm not saying were not very good as we are,This season will see a lot of results not going the way we think should( and not just for the Riders) I still stand by Tack takes to much of the offence for himself, Pass the ball Tack there's 4 others on the court on your side :wink

All in All not a bad weekend Nice win against the Heat, Fantastic win for Worchester and a Great turnout by the Riders Fans at both games

Now who do I put down for a win in next weeks prediction game :hmmm

I can understand some of your frustrations (isthaturinal) and I agree at times Tack needs to dish the ball a bit more however he also makes the impossible shots. He almost single handedly dragged us back in and nearly won us the game in the 4th quarter.
As much as I love watching Bradd, yesterday he was 3/8 FG and 4/12 3p, so i guess Tack backed himself.
Our other guys could help out abit more by setting better screens and also being more aware of the quick breaks in transition when tack drives to the basket.
The Milton Keynes game was an eye opener as to how our offense mis-fired minus Tack.

We need to improve our defence to win more games simple as and the guys showed 2nd half against Guildford that they can do it.
However you have to admit the unpredictable nature of the Riders play means its almost always entretaining to watch.

isthaturinal - how many times have you taken the ball the length of the court in 4 seconds. Could you find Brad on the court/was he even open in the short amount of time. When you are think get the best possible shot possible to tie or win the game. I doubt the Wolves were just going to leave Brad wide open with his reputation. Sounds like to me Tack did the right thing maybe he could have pulled up and taken a longer shot. but the % drops of making that shot!

I would have to say I thought Tack did the right thing on the last play. I did wonder if he maybe could have pulled up at the foul line for a jumpshot as he seemed to get a yard of space but he obviously felt more confident going to the glass. I thought our movement off the ball was poor at times, not just when Tack had the ball, which makes it hard for whoever has the ball.

With regards to the defence, playing the way we do, and with Tack playing the way he does, we will always leave ourselves exposed to teams that want to push the ball in transition. Whilst there is obviously room for improvement I think that is one of those things we will have to live with as it goes with the style of offence we play. I thought Worcester exposed that weakness very well.

I agree re we are always likely to leave ourselves exposed on defence as it goes with our style of offence (not that I’m complaining about that because it is great to watch), although I also think there is improvement that can be made. I think the trick is getting the balance right between- knowing when to crash the boards and when to get back on defence, but this is obviously very difficult. I suppose we can only hope it improves the more we play but it then makes it all the more important to keep focused when we're defending set offences.

As for our offence, I agree there could be more movement off the ball, particularly when Tack is in possession as I think teams tend to focus more on him as he is so explosive. It then surely makes it more difficult for the defence as they have to concentrate on other players moving as well as Tack.

The potential of this team is there, we’re just not quite where we need to be yet. We have seen it for periods in games, e.g. in the 2nd half on Saturday (if we play like that I can’t see any other team being able to compete with us). As for the comparisons to last year’s team I think it's a little unfair to be comparing at this point in the season as I’m sure we still have many ups and downs to come, though I’m really enjoying it so far.

Yes we can tighten defence and that will make us even more effective as a team but let's not complain about our style of play in terms of offence - I have loved the games so far because we play with passion - overhyped term but it's true.

I'm not complaining about or style of play at all. I'm enjoying watching the way we play as well. All I'm saying is that whilst playing this style of offence we will give up a certain amount of points against the fast break. I'm not saying that it's costing us games it's just a trade-off. We score more points because of it but give up more points because of it.

Yeah I can see how my post may have come across as moaning about our offence but that wasn't how it was meant.
