Quick report tonight

UGLY UGLY UGLY.

They say that the sign of a good team is to play badly and still win(particularly away from home)- well on that performance we must be f'ing fantastic!!!!

Offensively we were shocking- couldn't have hit a barn door with the basketball for much of the game. Credit has also to go to Pirates who defended well and are very quick. Defensively we were quite strong too.

This is a game we would have lost in years gone by- the addition of EJ has made us a winning team.

6 wins in a row, I don't remember Lions ever managing that before. Robert was MVP for Lions, I have no idea how many points or rebounds he achieved but he fought hard and scored crucial baskets and grabbed crucial rebounds, driving Lions to victory.

More tomorrow!

Ok thinking about it- it was still UGLY!!!

Lions were obviously tired from the night before and struggled throughout. Pirates harried and hustled throughout the game and deserve much credit for the way they disrupted Lions throughout the game.
Not seen any stats but I would think there was another large number of turn overs to add to the night before, we failed to play offensively as a team.

Mike- Ice cool from the line when it mattered, struggled with the speed of the Pirates big guys.
Frank- Still managed 11 points, however was fairly off his game most of the evening.
Robert- MVP- no hesitation in this, fought hard all night and never gave anything up.
Dawud- Poor by his recent standards, but his heart was still there. Needs to concentrate at ALL times when on court.
Yorick- Wasn't quite connecting offensively but played hard 'd'.
Dru- Defensively very sound -as always. Offensively went missing a bit.
EJ- Poorest game for Lions, but his maturity and discipline in running the point saw us home. WE would have lost this game last year. Different class.

No one else figured enough to mention much. Although Craig is not the player we saw in the first couple of games, seems to be lacking some confidence.

For Pirates, Dean was their stand out player, composed throughout. Adu will score good points in this league and have a positive effect. Big guys are fast, athough that is helped by a fair amount of travelling! Overall I was impressed with their defensive play but probably need another scorer or two. They will get wins this season and they should be applauded for their efforts in holding out on using Americans.

Venue is good and bar is very pleasant! I admit I was slightly confused with the number of lines on the court! They are trying hard and will get better. The commentator seems to have less knowledge than Mike Shaft! but he is enthusiastic and he stopped calling the clock shot in the 2nd half. Piped 'defence' chant is annoying and he failed to allow the fans to create an atmosphere- there were times when he got the crowd going, but continued to cover their noise. A little more restraint on his part and they could create a good atmosphere. Early days though and they will learn, certainly a good effort.

Ref Watch- better than the previous evening, although I have to question Hickmans impartiality, it might be in his sub-concious but he seems to be constantly looking to penalise Lions at every opportunity.

Well done to the team for working hard and getting another win!! I thought we had a good run when we won the Cup, so checked and we had a 6 run winning streak in 2007/8 before we met Everton who spoilt things. Let's hope this run will last even longer. Have a good rest lads and come out all guns blazing at Plymouth!! :pray Wish it was a home game so I'd be there to see it!!
