Did you really time that free throw St Pat , I was only guestimating , but it was a noticeably hell of a long time.,

Yep- sad I know, but after discussions this week, thought I'd count on some free throws- Robert often takes some time so I took extra notice of his!- and that was really extended. Interesting most others that I counted were within 5 secs or 6 secs max.

Hi Les , I assume you were the guy behind the Sharks bench talking into the phone, thingy ???

My very bias take on this:-

The result was a travesty from the Sharks point of view, not because of anything the MKL did ( except for Spink's constant flopping , rather like Billy Singleton used to do, arms & legs waving all over like a marrionette ) , although Matt G didn't cover himself with glory with the miraculous recovery from his on court injury .
And whilst I do agrre the calls were terrible ( and I mean terrible ) for both teams, THe Sharks got them at pivotal points,

Hope I get these the right way around.

1) End of regulation Sharks up, by 2 with an inbound under MKL Bucket, Lions had already been fouling to get possetion back. about 10 secs left we inbound the ball, Spinks lunges foward & grabs Attiba, which is what you would expect, Refs gave the foul on Attiba & so he was fouled out :eek ,

MKL go up take a shot , miss, Mike Cook grabs the rebound , and is immediately grabbed from behind by 1 MKL player & jumped on by another , refs give a JUMP BALL :eek , posetion to MKL they score .

2) End of 1st period of O/T last couple of seconds & tied, Mike drives to basket, get sandwiched as 2 MKL players step across him on his way to basket, No call :eek

3) Tapps 5th foul , absolutely no idea how to describe this , as I didn't see anything wrong so no idea what to focus on as the reason for it, with no explanation from the refs, as to what it was for :phew

4) Sharks now have Todd Attiba Tapps all fouled out , refs call a 5th foul on our only remaining Big Man - Matt, ( # 24 ) 6- 10" blond hair, until the bench pursueded the refs , he was no where near the play , and the foul was actually on Ryan ( #12 ) 5' - 11" black hair ,
an easy mistake to make :whistle

5) MKL level following T/O we inbound at half way, ( 3 secs left ) ball goes to Ryan who fake and as he offloads to Mike Ryan is taken out - No Call :pullhair

3rd period no real complaints, I think our players were just at a loss as to what they had to do.

I thought our effort & play was probably the best I've seen this season so far, and I really dont think they could have done any more , I think we will bounce back from this strong , but this game should have been focussed on 2 very well matched tough teams.

Final addendum Toney 17 mins, due to 5 fouls ,plea to refs , treat him in the same way as other big men like Mike New etc. , he is big & plays strong, he does nothing different from any other big man,
Number 6,

You may recall a game at EIS a few years ago Sharks v Eagles. Sharks won following some very dubious call by the refs. Calls that clearly affected the outcome of the game. Eagles protested and the game was reviewed by the refs supervisor. Although the result stood the 3 refs were critisized publicly and suspended for 1 game. Listening to the Sharks MD on Radio Sheffield and after reading reports in the Sheffield local press it is clear that Sharks are to make a similar complaint to the League.

Whilst it is a few years ago it is hoped that consistency will prevail and a similar outcome will be arrived at. Won't change the result though.

The refs were punished in that eagles game primarily due to their failure to deal with clock management issues (the final 9 seconds took approximately 16 as the clock was starting and stopping). The refs just ignored it.

I am not sure there is any precedent for referees to be disciplined simply on judgement calls.

Sharks shoot 44.8% from 2 point land
Sharks shoot 24.1% from 3 point land
Sharks shoot 61.5% from free throws

But of course one decision by the referee on Atiba lost them the game!!!!

Simply shooting over 50% on free throws in the 2nd half would have won them the game.
