Seems like forever since the last game - and it's been quiet in here - but live basketball is back tonight. Jets playing well with good wins over the Tigers and Raiders, Rocks not quite got it put together yet. I think it's going to be a tough game tonight, so I'm pleased to see Steve Parillon back. Looks like he's been playing pretty well on the road and an additional man available for the Rocks is never a bad thing. Really looking foward to seeing Sapp again too. Fingers crossed for the win! |

I was really disappointed with saap tonight and was a pretty flat performance all-round but that just my opinion . |

I have to agree. We were slow to react to their quick breaks particularly, and didn't look much of a threat. Things to work on. |

I disagree- nothing wrong with Jesse's standard of play. Yes it looked as though Jesse wasn't playing his usual game but I think that tonight it was Sterls tactics that were the problem. Jesse did well (probably played to his coaches instructions) and had one fantastic basket. You also have to take into account that we were playing a good team - their D was excellent tonight. |

Sapp was poor last night in my opinion. His defence was lacking intensity, passing choices not gr8 and his shooting arm not working as well as we know it can. I am sure we all saw Sterling bawling him out from the sideline for not getting close enough to the Chester player for the 2nd time to allow x2 3 pointers. Did he not also give away a stupid unsportsmanlike foul. It was only 1 game though & I think he will develop into a star. How many 3s and easy lay ups did the team miss last night? Has Sterling learnt anything - we still need an assistant & a center.............do I not say that every season. Edited by Bonnie Scotsman, Oct 26 2009, 06:59 PM.

Yes, definitely not quite himself, but IMO the match-ups and Rock's defensive strategy had a lot to do with this - and a largely ineffective performance by the team as a whole. Jets simply defended our well known reliance on perimeter shooting well - and they also made it tough to drive to the hoop (as Rob, Jessie and even Scott, all found out) - which is not exactly Rock's preferred style of play with such a lack of interior presence. By contrast, Rock's strategy to counteract Jets significant inside presence was to draw Saap back to defend in the paint. This worked to some extent when Rocks had Rob, Jessie and Scott on court, because it left our two guards to defend the perimeter, but with just Robb and Jessie on court and Jessie defending below the hoop, Jets simply dished the ball outside for a 3 point shot, where they were twice as successful as Rocks - how often in the final period, was Robb left defending both Peterson and Gayle, to enable Rocks to defend the inside play, but leave the 3 point option open? Clearly Jet's defensive strategy was simply much more effective than Rock's - and they have a little more depth, but I think we've been there before Oh - and where did Steve Parillon disappear to in the fouth Q? After a couple of verbals with Jessie Saap and then Sterling, when he did not close down the three point shot, he seemed to completely switch off.

He was strolling about the court doing nothing - probably in a huff. Sterling should have pulled him off at that point as he was contributing nothing. |

Sapp is a class act and will be as good as we let him be. I'd be very surprised if he didn't end up in a far superior league next season. The Parillion issue is not exactly unexpected, this has happened before. I understand guys have pride and all that, but going off in the huff is completely counter-productive and frankly immature, especially for a guy in his 30s. I wasn't at the game, but I've noticed that Gareth has been below his best so far this season. Perhaps when he gets going we can expect some more victories. It's pleasing to see Scott getting more time and (such as last time out) scoring well when he's in the game. I can only assume there isn't the money for an assistant. If it was the case of either getting an assistant or a centre, what would you go for? Personally, I think a centre would let Sterl sit a bit more and coach from the bench. Is there no-one in the Rocks organisation that could step up and even help out as assistant from time to time? |

hi everyone - hope all are well... my first game of the season last night -- and I was really looking forward to seeing this team. Have to say though, I was feeling less inspired approaching the final 6 minutes left and a small lead to the jets. Yes the jets worked hard on D and took their chances. But for me, it looked as though we had no real plan to win that game. Our offensive set up looked predicatable - and also was poorly executed on too many occassions - e.g. poor screens, lack of movement - the Jets were better in this department. I actually thought that rob and jessie had reasonable games - not great but at the same time, showed some great moves and passes which gave us a chance. Too early to be pessimistic? We do need an assistant - and I feel that assistant has to be strong enough to impart themselves on the game and help the team close these games strongly. Probably a hangover from last season, but felt unconvinced by Sterl. We have a fair amount of talent in this team, probably lacking some depth on the bench, but I believe enough talent to have converted that game. |
