Best performance of the season from Lions. Strong, disciplined defence throughout and good TEAM offense throughout the game. Riders were missing Tack, and will obviously use that as an excuse for losing but they failed to impress as a team throughout. Will do a more detailed report tomorrow, EJ was excellent but it was without doubt, a TEAM WIN. For Riders, Johnson and Adam Williams were the stand out players for me. Take note BBL fans- apparently you can be ejected for blowing horns during free throws!!! YES- there was an official warning at half time that anyone blowing the horns would be ejected!!! I'm going to question this, as although I believe there is a rule in the EBL regarding 'musical instrument' noise during free throws(including drums), I do not believe that rule exists in the BBL. I am also quite confident in saying that if the rule was ever used in Europe there would be a mass riot!! As it happened, the 'SCREAM' worked far better than the horns anyway, so whoever complained to the refs so they would issue the warning, actually had a negative effect on Riders.

Why do you need horns? I dont agree they should be banned during free throws, in fact that is total garbage. But why do you need them? Whats wrong with a good old shout (sounds like that worked better in the end anyway!)

That whole debacle was a joke imo and Russell Levenstein is a jobsworth. How can yoo threaten to eject someone who questions a decision without even swearing??? I though we played extremely well offensively, they couldn't cope with our inside/outside combo of Frank and EJ but it was our defense that really impressed me. I agree with your review Pat, although if you check the Riders forum apprentlty we weren't THAT good they were THAT bad!!!! What game was that person watching! Have to add that i was unimpressed with some of their "fans" hurling some abuse at Lions fans just because they were losing! GROW UP. You didn't see us doing that when you beat us by 40 last season. |

IMO Russ has forgotten who gave him his start in this business. He has put on his 9.99 suit and turned in to a self obsessed muppet! And as for the fans who hurled abuse at us, u dont belong at a sporting event if you cannot handle banter. Go and watch the snooker, u have to shut up during that! As for the game, we were class, simple as that. We held Brad to 4 points, that says it all! Durant had 1 point! Enough said! And on a final note..... EJ is different class!!!!!

1 more quick point. Frank had another great game. 18 points, 15 rebounds & 4 Blocks. Looks like a real find and I think there is more to come from him.

Dale Aitchison apparently requested that anyone blowing their horn would be ejected!! I don't think there is a word that I am allowed to use on here that adequately shows my feelings about this man!! Anyway, lets not get too bogged down with the incident, when the most important thing was that we whipped Riders arses! Ish, Max and Craig all played limited minutes at the end and there is nothing to report. IG- seems to have lost a little confidence but once a couple of shots fall, I'm sure we'll see him start to shine. Guy- did he only score 2 points(i thought he hit a 3 too- obviously wrong!)- He is showing that he will become a proper team player. There is far more to this his game than merely dunks. Robert and Mike- Both used their experience and know-how in and around the basket to good effect, although Mike didn't take a shot in his 11 minutes. Robert seems to be enjoying himself. Dawud- Quiet game from his recent high standards but did what was necessary- although not totally what Vince wanted at one point, given the way he shouted at him!! Stiill managed 10 points and 3 assists. Yorick- Great defensively and added valuable points. Riders had problems picking him up all night. Dru- Excellent game, very strong defensively and added good points too. Had the moment of the game for me when he finished off a move near the end, when Lions passed the ball for 23 secs, with Riders chasing shadows before Dru knocked it in. Had all the Lions fans and bench off their feet. EJ- God, this guy is good, there is simply nothing more that needs to be said. Frank- extended minutes tonight and he is growing into the game in this country. His stats may not be quite as good as Johnsons, but he was the better player and gave his team more at both ends of the court than Johnson. Excellent performance. Reluctant to give an MVP- this was a really good TEAM performance. Not many teams will find it easy to play us whilst we play like that. For Riders- Adam Williams was their best player, yet he was sat down far too much. Johnson played well and seems a very good pick-up. The other Williams was the only other player to take note of- solid and hard working. Refs- Barring 'that incident' thought they reffed fairly well- some tough decisions against both teams but thought they controlled the game quite well. Overall a very pleasant evening and Lions fans were loud and proud throughout. Marios was good too- although it was a bit cold in there! Edited by Saintpat, Oct 18 2009, 12:56 PM.

Yeah looking at the comment I made it doesn't read the way I meant it to. A lot of credit should go to MK for the way that they played but all I was saying was that they weren't sooo good that there was nothing that we could do about it. How well Lions played had nothing to do with us shooting under 50% from the line (although maybe the MK fans had something to do with it  ). The missed lay-ups and missed dunks were elementery mistakes that is more down to Riders playing poorly rather than Lions playing well. As I said, though, you did play very well and I would be fairly confident in saying that you will do well this season. I also made the statement that if we played like that we wouldn't even beat London Capital, which is exactly what has happened even with the return of arguably our best player. Pat, having been 15 points up in the first quarter, i couldn't quite believe that we lost to Caps. It was an even more bitter pill to swaller knowing that i had to sit on the coach with the rest of the team and wonder what went wrong. I don't know if you have seen Caps play this year but i will say this, they will definately pick up some more wins this year. I'm not gonna say we played well because we played garbage most of the game. If teams play garbage you will not win. The Refs were possibly the worst i have ever seen. Completely biased to the point that they knew it and were escorted out of Caps court at the end of the game because of the fury of the Riders' players and fans down there watching  The incident in question: having pulled the point deficit back and tied the game we had the ball with roughly 6 seconds of game time left. A Caps player committed what i feel to be the most blatant foul i have ever witnessed in my history of watching basketball. This was witnessed by a referee (i don't know his name, he was a new guy). the ref was no more than 2 metres away from Tony Windless as he was being tagged by a Caps player and the Caps guy deliberately pushed Tony over and out of bounds. The referee then gave Caps the ball at the sideline. Cue: Riders fans and players screaming wildly! Tony Windless went mental at the ref in question and the ref ran off. At the end of the day Riders lost 2 games this weekend because they were not playing well consistently and they came up against 2 teams that wanted to win the games far more.  Oh, n the donkey comment was only in jest, I would not want to offend anybody because that's not my thing. With regards to the other riders fans that were being abusive, I can only apologise for the rest of us who like banter at the games. It's part of going to a match and creates a good atmosphere. Still think you're wrong about the horn though...

I'm pretty sure that refs are always escorted out after the game. I cannot believe I missed Sundays game - I live 5 mins from Caps but am very good at missing their occassional wins. |

The rules are unclear. It seems it is down to the officials to decide, there is no definite rule. I have to admit the more I think about it, the funnier the whole incident becomes!! I can't believe the whole game actually stopped whilst Russell was having his hissy fit. And very funny that someone actually asked Russell if he could stop me screaming!!!! And I'm pleased you liked the eye-ore chant!! |

I can only think that the MIGs thought it very close in sound to the air horn used by the table. I don't think any of the players were affected by it. Riders just can't shoot free throws at the moment. |
