From a quote on BBL Site
Quote:

Vince Macaulay is expecting nothing to come easy for his side on Friday evening: ‘As it's the BBL cup, we want to progress, so we are expecting a real dog fight on Friday’

Well it certainly ended up being a dog-fight!!!

Lions started well, with Frank owning the inside for the first 2-3 minutes. Heat couldn't cope with EJ and their PG is a very poor substitute. Lions played really strong defence and Heat simply couldn't cope. From two baseline balls they managed to throw the ball back-court and on another occasion got timed out! They threw the ball back court on one more occasion just for fun too!! Half ended with Lions up by 15 and in total control.

2nd half started and it looked like Lions had left their legs(and brains) in the locker room. Heat turned up the pressure and speed and caught Lions totally flat footed. Lions lost the quarter 26-9, yet Vince failed to call a time out all quarter and spent the vast majority of the quarter with his head in his hands looking totally dis-interested in the whole proceedings. Heat were good, Lions were shocking and the apparent dis-interest from the coach was shameful.
End of 3rd and Lions finally get to go back to the bench and re-group and guess what- we came out a far better team!! Nip and tuck for the remainder of the game, with neither team able to escape the clutched of the other. Two points up and two seconds to go and Dru steps to the line- the ice man hits them both to seal the win! Considering Lions had just missed 9 from 10!!!! free throws previous to that, shows how cool Dru needed to keep.
A very exciting end to the game and full credit to Heat for stepping it up 2nd half and making a real game of it.

Players.

Robert- I love seeing Mike Martin and Robert going against each other it's always fun to watch. Robert defended Mike really well but didn't bother the scorers much.
Mike- not his best game and missed 4 free throws in a row!! Heat were too quick for him. We'll see Mike play far better than that. Thought Frank and Mike got on each others way a bit- but that will improve with games.
Frank- just goes about his business effectively, still getting called for silly fouls inside but he'll learn what it takes in this league. Surprised and disappointed he didn't see more court time during the 4th.
Guy- Limited minutes but showed promise again. I think he's looking better defensively too.
IG- Gotta love this guys intensity- still plenty to learn but helped the team defensively a lot.
EJ- Different class of PG. Controlled and measured throughout. He makes Lions a TEAM!
Yorick- really good 'd'- poorest shooting performance of the season but must have still got into double digits.
Dawud- Has changed as a player since EJ arrived, no longer the tentative slightly nervous individual we saw early on. Great 'd' good rebounding, good shooting and penetration and the block/steal on JJ followed by him slamming it home was fantastic to watch. Joint MVP with EJ.
Dru- not his greatest game but stepped up when it mattered and was ice cool from the free throw line. His temperament at the end sealed the game.
Lions will still improve on this performance.

For Heat, I thought JJ did well and Mike was as accomplished as always. Question marks must be raised over the two Americans- early season I know, but the PG was shown up badly by EJ. Thought Tayo brought good energy and commitment to the team and was as good as either American(ignoring Chad). Chad shot better than he has for 2-3 seasons- with Richard Scantlebury on the sidelines his lack of coaching knowledge/experience will be lessened.

Ref Watch-
Not awful, but far from the best performance I've seen this season. Thought Roger went about his business in his usual efficient manner, the other two were a little erratic.

Finally- Pleased to note that there was no 'finally' tonight!!!! :roflol2

Thanks Pat - insightful as always.
GO HEAT

We play TEAM ball.

I reserve the right to ignore you in a grown-up, though slightly aloof way if you are rude to me.

According to the BBL report about the forthcoming Raiders game

Quote:

The Lions bounced back from a narrow defeat to Guildford Heat to beat the Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders on their home floor,

Did I miss something? Have the BBL changed the result? I'm sure somewhere in their ridiculous rules there will be a rule giving the game to Heat, if they wish to enforce it!!!
