http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4563546 Ok I know that the refs always allowed 2 steps anyway so this is more of a technicality than a sweeping change. But even so, why can't the NBA just leave the game alone? They change little rules here and there every season, but it doesn't alter the fact that 80% of their players are athletic freaks capable of doing amazing things...but lack the basic basketball fundamentals old school players had. Tinkering with rules like this to make the game 'easier' or 'more watchable' does not make up for a generation of players who lack in certain skills which are still vital to the game. The league changing things like this to assist athletic players won't change anything. Just my 2p worth anyway.

This is a joke. They change the rules to benefit offensive players who are already travelling all the time. NBA is circus but come on don't make it this obvious! Of course if there were more NBA fans who have more than 2 brain cells then NBA wouldn't be doing all this nonsense but the reality is different and everybody wants to see Kobe and LeBron score 80 points. Who cares about the rules? I said many yeas ago that NBA will eventually turn into a basketball version of American wrestling. |

I think the saving grace for me is the increasing volume of international players coming into the league - coaches and scouts obviously still realise the value in having guys who can shoot, pass and bounce the ball properly. If we can get the numbers up to about a third of all NBA players being non-American we have a chance to see this kind of stuff not affect the game too much. Just think of it this way - imagine taking todays style of typical NBA player and the little rule changes designed to maxmimise what he can do, and apply it to the players of 20 years ago - when there were hardly any foriengers in the league. The result would be pretty much what you described there Vilius - a circus! There is something to be said for seeing Lebron or Kobe go to work on the opposing team, but those guys do have the basics as well (outside shooting not withstanding) but too many of these guys grew up watching Michael Jordan and wanted to be like him...yet somehow failed to notice his outstanding all around game, lost in the highlights shuffle no doubt.

this rule isn't a change. the refs have been allowing 2 steps for years. everyone gets taught to take 2 steps, i know i was. it's just updating the rulebook. |
