The signing of Ogedengbe is now confirmed on the Heat site. From the article, I'm guessing it was meant to go up before the Essex home game? Tayo Jumps at the Chance to Feel the Heat Heat Head-coach Chad McKnight putting the final pieces to his team for the forthcoming season. Young star Tayo Ogedengbe is his latest signing. The 6’6” former Under-20 GB player joins the Heat after a year at the Gran Canaries Basketball Academy, where he made significant progress with his game. The Londoner played for various London teams, as well as captaining the English Universities team last year. He made his debut in the British Basketball League (BBL) with London Capital in the 2007-08 season, where he started in all 33 games. Tayo is an exciting prospect, having already played for the Heat in the pre-season Thunder Cup, where he helped his new teammates lift the trophy. Heat fans who saw Tayo play at the Thunder Cup already know what they are getting and Rob Orelana, his coach last season at Gran Canaries, has no doubts. “Tayo is a talented athlete, no doubt about it, with the potential to get even better. I’m not sure he even realizes how good he could be. He’s got a good work ethic and we expect big things from him in the future” Tayo joins a winning team. As well as capturing the Thunder Cup, which will be presented to the team at this Sunday’s home game at the Spectrum (3 o’clock tip-off), the Heat swept away Tayo’s former side, London Capital, 95-65 in their opening game last weekend. Talking about his move to the Heat, Tayo said: “I am really exciting about playing for the Heat and can’t wait to get rolling. This is an exciting part of my basketball career: it’s a strong team and a good bunch of guys with lots of fans on our side. It sounds like a good recipe for success and I am looking forward to the season.” |
