A convincing win for Lions, a game which we really should have won by 20 except for a mad 3 minutes in the 4th quarter. What a difference a player makes!! First game for EJ and he made the win possible, simply made Lions a more controlled outfit. Worthing started fairly slowly and never really got going, after all the hype they were a disappointment. They simply failed to cope with some very good, controlled Lions defence and eventually resorted to playing on a one to one basis. I've only seen them once, but I think they need a better PG and if Zafirov is still with Thunder by the end of October I will be surprised. As for LIons,, a far more controlled offensive display, as you would expect with a PG now on court. Defensively strong. Still things to improve but Lions best display of the season and hopefully we can build from here. Players. Unfortunately, Craig, Ishmael, IG and Max all had their worst games of the season. Simply didn't get into the swing of the game and made mistakes at both ends of the court. The introduction of some of them in the 4th coincided with Thunder going on a run. Strange really as they have come on in previous games with far more pressure and played well. But they're young and they'll learn from this experience. Guy- played very limited minutes but hit a nice 3. Robert and MIke- Gave Lions the experienced heads they needed at times. Both contributed in and around the basket but had fairly quiet games. Dru- Did a really good job on Bratton in the first half and his defence helped build the lead. Yorick- Hit some good early shots and played some good 'd' but was fairly quiet overall- I wonder if his injury from last week was still troubling him a little. Frank- Monster dunk near the end and proved again that he is an excellent signing. EJ- Made the difference to the team, we looked controlled with him on court and added an additional scoring threat that we have been missing. Dawud- Far and away his best performance of the season and I think it's no coincidence that it comes when EJ starts. Some good shooting which was helped by Lions passing to him when he was on a roll- we have failed to do this for many years!! Defensively very strong too and far better than last week. For Thunder, Makalainen was probably the pick for me, played hard at both ends of the court and always gave 100%. Bratton also impressed. Prezzie-Blue tried driving inside too much- he simply doesn't have the height- seemed like a poor mans Terrell to me. Kadiri was interesting and certainly not worth all the hype- but more on him in a minute. Refs Watch Thought it was a decent performance, I'll never agree with them 100% but I thought they handled the game well. The new guy was respectable and both Keith and Neil continually chatted to him and helped him. Kith reacted once to the fans, but in a friendly, joking manner- Gavin please note!!!! Finally- and will this become a regular spot!!!! Kadiri, if you continue to have your head on upside down, I'll continue with the chant- will you continue to seem to call me a 'm***** ####**'!!!! - Oh and if you are going to react, I suggest it's after you've hit both of your free throws- as it was the chant worked a treat!!! |

Think Milton Keynes will be a hard place to pick up wins for travelling teams, the small court makes it harder to score on at times and Thunder yesterday just didnt perform, so credit to MK as they ran out deserved winners. In regards to Saint Pat, KD did what he needed to do and what was hyped about he said he would go into games doing what was required from the Coach, ok he didnt make his free throws however he still produced a double double performance with a respectable 14 and 10. In regards to the refs the one point in the game that turned it was the Technical to Coach T, in which he questioned a error from the referees and for that got a T, what the refs missed was that on 2 occassions Youngblood faked a free throw which you are not allowed to do , and the second error was the referees allowed 4 MK players to line up for a free throw. The Overall game was a decent game EJ is pure class, Morris only seemed to get hot for a short period in the 3rd, Thunder clawed it back with a Few minutes of Intensity but that was not enough, Poor Shot Selction and offence threats didnt help Thunder. With Pepe he is still adapting to the English game, time will tell but i think he could be a solid pick up, it was Hard a times for him to play offensively as he was guarded by Robert Youngblood , who knows all the tricks in the book Holmes like you said did a monster dunk but that is it really, likewise with him think he needs tiem to adapt to the BBL game like your Big American from last season did.Anyway Thunder now 2-2 not a bad start from the season hopefully pick up 2 wins the weekend! |

Did the foul shot go in? If it did then I think the refs were right to do nothing. If it missed it should then be sideline ball worthing. |

I thought they just make them take it again if they missed. Never seen them give it as a sideline ball. I've seen a number of mistakes during free throws this season already, and I've missed a couple of games. |

Strange. I've never seen that. I wonder if all the refs are actually aware of these rules! |

Thunder took the free throw, it was missed and rebounded by one of the 4 players lining up for the rebound! and outletted to the remaining player down the court for a fastbreak lay up!

I never thought the game was in doubt. Thunder got closer when Lions brought on their more younger, inexperienced player, who when pressed hard found it hard to cope. The Thunder fans shouldn't be sitting where they were, they did this last season. Most of their chants etc were good banter but on closer listen(as i was very close to them) i didn't like some of the slagging that was going on. I wouldn't have been suprised to see something kick of between fans. Its not a great idea to sit amongst the home fans and start talking negativley about them. Overall though a good physical game. EJ controlled it all for the Lions and was pure class on his long awaited debut. |

"The Thunder fans shouldn't be sitting where they were, they did this last season" Are they the only set of fans that sat there then, why didnt the stewards put a designated area for away fans, how were they to know where to sit did it say on the stand home fans only? Maybe if it a problem they should have a sectioned of area? |

since the "VIP's" started sitting behind the bench the away and home fans have had less prime space to fill (no one wants to sit behind the baskets). Each team bring a vastly differing number of fans with them so it would be hard for the club to offically segregate and not leave massive gaps. I guess we just have to live with this until January. Was disappointed not to see Janis in action as IMO he was Thunders stand out man last year but was impressed by Bratton. EJ made a big difference for us and I hope we can now build on this win as looking around the league not many teams have as strong a roster as us. |

Not really. Away fans normally sit in the main stand in front of their own bench. |

I think the question was about the fans abusing the home fans Pat, not what someone from the US said about a player before he got here. And don't forget all the talk on this forum about the 'world's greatest dunker' - was that hype too or has he delivered a 720 windmill jam yet?? Edited by Sam_H, Oct 13 2009, 02:02 PM.

Sam- I know you find it difficult even to keep up with Thunder news and games, so this may have escaped your notice Midnight madness dunk contest Guy And no one said he would be setting the league alight- he was always going to be work in progress, however we have seen THIS |

And yes Im sure he is a good dunker, but will his in-game dunks live up to the hype? You won't be aware but Thunder once had a player called Levoris Jerry, now if your man finishes the season with a better array of dunks that he had I'd say he has indeed lived up to the hype. Doing it in warm ups doesn't really count, entertaining as it may be. The 2nd video is a nice dunk but I've seen better. Kadiri is going to be a good player in this league, his defense is excellent and I think we all understand one or 2 of his biggest fans from the States are going to hype him over the top, that doesn't mean the rest of us also think he will be the greatest player in BBL history or anything. But you can't judge someone on having seen them play only once. Im not writing off your dunker, just highlighting that he also has loads of hype but lots of guys can pull off good dunks. Kadiri may not go down as an all time great but he could well be one of the better players in the league this season, we need to see more to know for sure. Edited by Sam_H, Oct 13 2009, 07:55 PM.

Sam I'm not sure I fuuly understand what you are saying however if you are referring to this quote
Are you suggesting that Richards called me someone who fornicates with his mother because he did 'what he needed to do'???? and that the coach required it of him?? |

but are we any closer to understanding what the Worthing fans said to the home fans that might have resulted in Saintpat getting to the point where he "wouldn't have been suprised to see something kick of between fans"? |

I don't believe it was Saintpat that said that. Maybe you should read properly before accusing people of saying things they didn't. |
