Magic win 90-75. Stefan Gill hit 10/12 from downtown for 37 points, Kimbrough 30, Watts 9. Magic still waiting for some major players to arrive. Good crowd at the ABC. Watts quiet with 9 points but he'll be fine once he's settled in. Leeds never gave up, 23 was impressive, if a little petulant. Every time Leeds looked like they might get back into it, Stef drained a 3. |

Info on the new players: Frederico Fridel Swiss Under 18/19 in 2009, born in 1991 (played at the Haris Tournament two years ago) Forward 196cm James Hagan Irish Under 18/19 in 2008, born in 1990 I believe he's a small Forward at 197cm Two young players who hopefully shine this season, I'd expect Frederico to get more court time once he understands the system a little more probably a slight language barrier there right now. Watts looked OK will get his shooting form back within a few games, looked a little rusty, despite playing out of position he looked OK with it, should be firing in time for the league games. Missing John Linsley (according to the MEN he is back). Nathan Schall and Adam Slater starting shows that we weren't to full strength, they did enough to help the team. Leeds looked good, physical team hustling on d, they liked to go to the basket, Ladi Brown is their main go to guy, three magic products Richard Reid, Dave Siddall and Connor Gent (who had his eye poked on Friday in training and did not travel). Albert Margai was cold from behind the arch 0/5 and so were Leeds 2/15 compared to magic's 15/24. On a side note, John Amaechi was present pretty much all day yesterday, he was certainly there before I was for magic 2 in the afternoon and was there for magic. I wonder if now (as of this summer) that he is living in Stockport if we'll see him more often than when he was living in London/USA. |

Not wishing to detract from Fridel, but I am very surprised that Magic have an apparently average Swiss 91 on the roster (http://www.fibaeurope-u18men.com/enDivB/default.asp?cid={E7BA731A-A812-4C5C-9C62-E987CBB10B2B}&pageID={5238E6D5-CED6-4116-B9F9-389BD9D5A0DC}&compID={2248A846-FA78-40FF-B03C-54B460890F45}&season=2009&roundID=6638&teamID=368& ) when I would have thought that they have plenty of young men from their own programme. What's the story? |

Watched both the Leeds and Tees Valley games, obviously Fridel is a young player, in a new team, in a different country, but despite a quiet start he appears to be building in confidence and as highlighted is putting points on the board. |

Very impressed with the Magic against Tees Valley today, i thought it would be a different look and style after not having Taner. Was still close after the first, but really showed there depth after that. Could be a nice winning season. |

Magic took an early lead vs Leeds and kept them at bay pretty comfortably. Early signs look good. Watts should be a nice fit, although we may lose some big games again if we continue to live and die by the 3. Stefan hitting 10/12 from 3 vs Leeds is all well and good, but he won't do that every game. Our interior offense (plan B) is somewhat lacking, but that might get better when the team assembles fully. Brandon Kimbrough looked to be driving to the hole which was promising; we've lost our other slasher in Taner Adu, so Brandon will have to pick up some of the slack. We should be challenging for honours this season, no question, although Bristol's roster does sound scary-good. |

Bristol slipped at Taunton so maybe they are not at strength yet either? Also noticed London Mets comfortably beat Reading so maybe they might be contenders in the Trophy at least? |
