Anybody got a report from the Sharks perspective? To give up 113 points after talking about defence all summer seems unbelievably poor. Doesn't look too good does it? |

I didn't help when one of your starters Todd Cauthorn fouled out in the 3rd, Matt Gorman did not play, Perry Lawson was kitted up but had very limited minutes It was a game of offence only as the scores says 113 93 I think all in all we were just to strong for the Sharks but you have one hell of a player in Mr Cook, Why have Sharks resigned JERMAINE GONSALVES now thats one roster space wasted and where's (part of the furniture) LEONID ‘LOCKER’ OKORIE I thought he'd be back to do some bench warming |

Perry Lawson did not play, according the official stats at least. Ash Chandley played for more than 6 minutes which shows that we were up against it player wise, though he did get 5 points. To be honest I think he should get some more minutes. Whenever I've seen him play he doesn't let any one down. Ryan played the whole 40 minutes and Atiba nearly did the same save a few seconds. Not very often a Shark has played the whole game so nearly 2 shows our depth perhaps not as we would like. I think Jermaine is doing some coaching/studying elsewhere and is on our bench as much to assist as it is to play - lets be honest he rarely gets onto the court. If two starters are out injured and then we hit foul trouble we are going to struggle. I think we maybe need another bench player and am surprised we can't rustle someone up from junior programmes. Still looking forward to Friday's first home game of the season, hopefully Matt and Perry are fit to play and we can see some fireworks from Mike and Tap. |

Maybe Number6 can shed some light on the injury situation? I definitely agree we need someone else who can give us some minutes off the bench. |

I was not going to post anything, but after reading Nick M’s post in the Leicester forum I will do a report of sorts. This was a strange game I left feeling positive, yet we lost by twenty points and it was disappointing, but there was positives and negatives to take from the Sharks performance. If those negatives can be sorted out in training and those positives elements of our play remain it could be a successful season. We were missing two players as well. I’m sure both sets of coaches were not happy with the defence that was being played. Sharks obviously for giving up 113 points and Riders for giving up 93 for starters. Sharks I would say created to many open shots for Rob’s liking. The statistics as a whole normally tell the story about how a team loses, the majority of statistics do not separate the teams, but one statistic does. We were out rebounded (Riders 53-28 Sharks). I hope Sharks are doing plenty of boxing out in training, Riders had seventeen offensive rebounds and a third of those must have ended up in easy put backs at least A team who loses by twenty points will be expected to have turned the ball over more (Riders 11 – 6 Sharks), and those Sharks turnovers were not forced by Riders only had 1 steal in the game. They came about through bad decisions and miss-communication. These can be fixed in training. We didn’t commit significantly more fouls (Riders 21-19 Sharks), Leicester had depth we didn't. I’d have to say the calls affected Sharks more especially in the 2nd quarter where Leicester built up a lead which we couldn’t pull back. I thought the refs were calling a tight game with Sharks coming off the worse but I am a Sharks fan, Riders fans may disagree. You could say they were consistent though. There was one situation in the second half where a sharks player drove to the basket, and it looked like he was fouled, but the ref indicated the defender was in the cylinder. My knowledge of rules is not good this one especially, so maybe have been a good call. What happened as a result of the non call was a Riders player drove to the basket and no foul was called. It looked a clear foul to me. If anyone has read the new rule on flopping, is it as open to interpretation as it seemed on Saturday? I didn’t see the others and I didn’t have a clear view of Patton’s but was that really a flop? Both teams looked good when they ran, Riders more than Sharks through Minor, who is extremely quick and is strong enough to finish in traffic. If Cook, Attiba, Adrian, and Lawson when he returns commit to running hard and spreading the floor like Cook did we will hopefully create easy shots. This did happen and Ryan got fouled as he went to basket, but he can just kick if the help comes. Hopefully this will also create the mid range jump shot for Ryan if they back off like Nate use to do. I’ve already written a lot more than I planned, so I'll summarise. Sharks do have a lot to work on but it’s a case of wait and see until we get a full team. The positives for Sharks are they stepped up the in the second half but were always chasing. They continued to play hard for me in second half even though the game was lost, and the foul situation. It was pleasing to see them try the zone press at the end, even though the game was lost and it did force a turnover. If Minor was on at the time, maybe a way to pressure him as there will be few who can mark him man to man. In terms of the offence Mike Cook was very good and accumulated a lot of points but he will need help. He is also taller than he looked from the seating in the Blue court, so we don’t have such a small backcourt as I feared. I would like to have seen Tap go to basket more but it was nice to see all our big men have a jump shot. This is getting far too long so:- Ryan – Good shooter maybe should shot more Todd – Didn’t take many shots need to look for him to take more. Attiba – Looks fitter than last season and should look to get more shots. Adrian – Even if we don’t except him to contribute much on offence we need to him to be part of offence in movement off the ball, setting screens and if they back off take the shot. Ash – Very pleased to see him play well, hit the open 3, and played good defence on Brad. Still looks young out there, but he does seem to have put some muscle on which will help. I haven’t commented much on defence and this post is far too long already, so I’ll say work in progress but as whole for the Sharks it’s not as bad as it seems yet. Nice Positive remarks "Richard", I hope the sharks do make some of the adjustments you commented on. Do you think that Tap will be the force we were made to believe?? |

I was positive as it was the first game of the season and we were missing players. Later on in the season and it's the same situation then doubt many will be. Can't comment on Tap, only seen him play twice.

Great report. Seems our rebounding problem from last year hasn't been adressed yet oh well roll on Friday and hopefully a bit of a backlash from the Sharks.
