Absolutely shocking. To lose so heavily to Worthing considering the team have been together for a month doesn't bode well for the season |

Mini MMum Match report... Raiders got a technica...l I heard for catching the ball under the net. Worthing are a very tall team and had a bench of 11 to play with, but Raiders only had/used 7. |

Wow! Deja vu, different players same result as last year only tonight we got hammered by a team on a lower budget and only 5 full time players. The fact we only had 7 players is surely our choice. Seems like our recruitment with the exception of Eric is not good. Other teams have similar budgets to us and look like they've recruited much better. It's a good point that they've already been together for a few weeks (longer than any others and some teams are still waiting for players to arrive!) so how much better if any can they get? |

Last year we regularly lost by 20+ points and I said that the difference tonight was we lost by 20 points to a lower standard team (no disrepect to Worthing) but that proves how much weaker we are this season. I imagine Gary would be a worried man tonight especially with an apparent lack of defence |

I think that this year's Worthing team is significatnly stronger than last years, so i would not use the result as a benchmark of Plymouths progress rather a sign that Worthing has stepped up. |

There is nothing wrong with quality of player signed, there just isnt enough of them!! Raiders will be very reminiscent of the early BBL couple of years where we faded late in games. Against Worcester and now Worthing we have just capitulated in the 4th Q. The other thing is Worthing beat us at the Pavilions once last season and they are far better team now, they can score from all over the court and have more talent than last season. We just arent deep and without James we are going to continue to struggle as the main 5 guys will need to play 35+ mins and we are very much undersized. Eric is not the only decent signing and I know he has been averaging 20+ ppg but he has also been averaging 20+ shots per game, points are good but 8/23 from the field as v Reading is not good enough use of the ball. All the players we have signed are good quality they just need to find a way to play good strong ball for 40mins, which without being able to rotate will be hard, but lets give them some time, its been 1 game!!!! I agree that Worthing have significantly improved since last year. My point is that tonight there were two teams with probably similar budgets and we were found wanting. Yes, we're going to fade in the last quarter but surely it was Gary's decision to spend his budget on 7 undersized players. And looking around the league all the other teams look pretty deep so presuming the budgets are similar all I'm asking is who's made the right recruiting decisions? I know James will make a difference but don't forget Worthing were without Janis |

I love how people think we're the same as last season. Wonder how many more teams we'll sneak up on before people wake up?

No we don't, Sam - we know you have a new coach, and a load of new team members, and that's going to change the dynamics. |

What evidence is that based on? Team change their personnel year on year. I am sure (and hope) Plymouth will improve, but it would be a mistake to underestimate Worthing... Edited by Hungrecker for 3, Sep 27 2009, 10:09 AM.

It would also be a mistake to write Raiders off based on their first League performance. |

If you only have 7 players Penny, I can't see them winning too many games. Ours was tight for 3 quarters and then I imagine fatigue set in as the 4th was a blowout. I dont think any assumptions can be made from 1 game though, and most teams should get better as the season goes on. We had some really sloppy turnovers and you shot a number of airballs - both things that you won't see so much of in a few weeks time I guess! |

I think only having 7 players was a major factor last night but without James and not alot of money not sure how we could avoid it. I certainly don't believe the hype that only 2 teams have a bigger budget than us this year and we're on a par with most of the others, if this was the case I'm sure Gary would have signed more players as cover. I don't have any inside information but I wouldn't have thought that signing BBL rookies including 2 who didn't play last season have cost the earth. Getting back to last night it's disappointing to lose but I'd be more worried if we had been blown out by 20 points in the opening half rather than the last quarter. At least it shows these players are good enough and can compete we just have to find a way to do it for 40 minutes which I'm sure we will when the players get adjusted to the league (remember some haven't played competitively for over a year) |

The majority of the teams have seen a massive shake up over the summer and as a result some teams are going to surprise their opponents. The problem is some people still expect certain teams to perform to a similar standard as last season and by this I mean other teams expecting Worthing to be of a similar calibre as last season but this season that just simply isn’t the case. When I saw Worthing play the weekend before last in the cup I realised just how strong Worthing has become and all I could do was rate their performance. Upon reflection and having seen the result from the weekend I really believe they will be a serious oppoent to the majority of teams this season as they won’t be expecting much from them. However (and most importantly leading me onto the purpose of my post), tonight’s result that doesn’t mean Plymouth are less competitive than last season and anyone jumping to that conclusion after just one game is a fool! Have faith in your team and let’s all look forward to an even most competitive season than last. Look forward to seeing you all at the furnace in November, Amy |

I miss Dave Downey Honestly Hustle look forward not back and have some faith in our guys. KKK if you were at the game you would have seen 7 players and one coach playing with pride so please stop knocking these guys. Can I ask you one question please? How do you know that Worthing's budget is the same as Plymouth's?
