Some great news with the signings and the appointment of Martyn Best as Chairman.

A big thanks to Gary for getting us to this point and a big welcome to Martyn who is stepping up from Deputy Chair and has been a key supporter of ours. He is also a top bloke who really does care about making the Tigers as successful as they can be on and off court.

As for the signings

Steven Rush
Steven Rush is a real sharp shooter hitting 41.6% from 3 point land last year at German club Franken Hexer (German Pro B) averaging 19.3 points per game. He comes with a good college pedigree from North Carolina A&T Aggies an NCAA1 College.

There he averaged 35.8% over 4 years from 3 point land and 84% on the free throw line as well as contributing on D with a steal a game. Also he was the first A&T player in 7 years to be named MEAC Player of the Week.

He broke the Aggies single-season record for 3-pointers made in the season and in doing so became the first Aggie in history to hit more than 100 3-pointers in a season. He also broke the Aggies record for 3-pointers in a game when he hit nine against Norfolk State.

A sharp shooter and great first piece to our new backcourt. Having heard rumours of who he is playing alongside at the guard spots I think the Tigers will present a strong threat from deep.

Welcome to The Tigers Steven!

Andrew Thomson
Also joining us from the other end of the M62 – via a few years in sunny Spain playing for Almeria (LEB Bronze) and Gijon (LEB Silver) is Andy Thomson.

Andy is a forward and has a strong inside game he was a big hit with the Manchester Magic faithful coming through their programme and after a few years working on his sunbathing skills in Spain he obviously fancies returning closer to home.

Either that or someone has told him that the Tapas in Liverpool One is every bit as good as what he has enjoyed in Espana.

My Spanish is poor so do not have stats from his time putting up numbers in the LEBs but if Bada Bing swings by perhaps he could help.

Welcome to The Tigers Andy!

who would thought that Thommo and Rush signing for Everton. Thank god its not Phil and Ian!

Really pleased we have signed two new guys, they have big shoes to fill and can't wait to see how they go about it.

Bring on the arena, any one heard if they are doing season tickets this year?

Katkins

I know that Season Tickets will be on sale at the Arena game but if you PM me your details I can pass them to someone in the club to sort out your ticket(s)

same for anyone else itching to get their seats sorted for the year - we did it last year and it works out loads cheaper.

Re: Andrew Thompson - Let me tell you if you think your gonna get just an inside presence from him think again. The guy has range on his jumpshot and can hit consistently from three point range. I think he'll have a massive impact on this league this year and with some of the other guys Everton are getting in, this year will be an interesting one for them.

Tony has done a great job recruiting this year. Two as yet unannounced signings were with Henry, Tony and Diego at the Jets match last night - actually I think one of them may have been put out by Mark Woods - hopefully it will be in the Echo today.

Not been able to find Andrew Thomsons stats from last year so hadn't realised he had that to his game too. Cheers Bigz

Can't wait until Saturday at Leicester.

Thomson can really stroke it, you have signed one of the best young English players in the country. He played in the treble winning Magic side that I'm convinced would have finished halfway up the BBL had they been in it that year, great signing.

The View from Down the M62

Looks like Tony G and Jeff Jones agree with 33

Inaminute - I think he is 24/25.

On what i saw at the arena on sunday andy thomson looks like a sixth man on a top BBL team and a starter on a mediocre BBL team. He could shoot whilst open, run the floor quickly and make decent passing decisions but showed absolutely no post up game and limited defensive ability. (Obviously only on one game)

Difficult to see him anywhere near the GB level : larkai however is a different question.

Hey Mr Mayor,

Jerome Gumbs looks like a great signing for you ... but what has become of Steven Rush?

:wolf
Wolfie

I have only seen Jerome play once at Cheshire and he looked very much the solid no nonsense player - Dave said in his review very much what I have been hearing from those who had seen him in training - Bailey-esque

A real great acquisition and another one that you could throw into the discussion for GB players that could be in the thoughts of Coach Finch come the summer.

As for Stephen Rush - I have heard whispers from outside the club of him possibly just finishing packing his suitcase as we speak (type?) will he be the missing piece of the puzzle - hard to say as defense seems to be where we need a bit more steel and Rush is I think something of a Shooter but he is quick so may be able to share some of the loud with KB in terms of pressuring the ball and disrupting the point. Not sure what our starting 5 will be when he arrives -

As for the puzzle - well we still have an import slot so if we find a few quid stuffed down the back of the Sofa then maybe we could still strengthen? Maybe we won't need to once everyone is settled as it has not been an ideal start by any definition but now at least we have good starting quality options in most spots.

Enjoy the game on Friday Wolfie it will be good to welcome Chuck back.

Now Dave on a question of other GB players

Have got to agree with what you say about Larkai - an outstanding player and athlete. The block he did at Chester was quite simply the nastiest block I have seen in the BBL in a long time - Cannot wait for the match up with Tap - thats like a two man Team GB squad play off game in itself :laugh

As for Thommo - well I also agree it is not fair to judge on one game but I think it is also unfair to say a good 6th man on a top team team - would he start for Newcastle, maybe not but I could see him starting for any other BBL team (so depends whether you mean a top team or the top team). I do think he has got much more to show - but hard to know what he showed on Sunday as I wasn't there. His post play could be stronger - he is not a bully like Flo - but he can pull down his share of boards and is hard to defend as he can step outside and has a good shot on him.

In our first season we had a problem of balance with big men doing that - Bang Bang, Aliu and Cal all seeming to want to play the perimeter often leaving nobody for the boards - Thommo doesn't do that too much but if he can show more of a post game then Jeff Jones may be right.

Dave, I haven't seen Thomson, but was surprised to see Holmes name on that list after watching him on Saturday. He looked a solid enough signing, but not particularly big. Lions seemed over-reliant on Youngblood inside, with only New and Spinks off the bench to cover for him.

Interesting comments- having watched the game on Saturday, I would take Holmes over either Johnson or Durant. Gave far more to the TEAM than either Leicester player. And he's the same height as Mike New. 'Blood and Homes link well together as they don't inhabit the same space, Holmes and New have far more problems together. As for Thomson, time will tell, it's far too few games for a big man to be dismissed so lightly.

You've seen far more of him, Pat, and I freely admit that I tended to focus more on the Riders players as it was my first view of Johnson. I did like the look of Holmes, but I guess the compliment is that I didn't really notice him amassing his stats. I did comment in my report that Johnson could have extended himself more and maybe that's borne out in you view of Holmes as offering more to his team. Having looked at the stat's I can see where Holmes sits on rebounds etc. so understand Dave's comments. Youngblood looked in pretty good shape too...

It seems that Mr Rush has arrived ... he just hit a trey on the half time buzzer to grab the lead back for the Tigers.

We did not play well at all. So yes disappointing performance. We actually played better against the Jets. Squad needs to be more settled - Rush straight off the plane this morning and into the game.

Losing JJ was a big blow - been awesome this year.

2 weeks after tomorrows game now for the squad to settle then we will see where we really are.

Although credit to Wolves - their point was great and Disy played really well too. We were well below our potential though.

Injured and I don't think he will feature today. He has been one of the really bright points of our season so far.

Will be missed, particularly by some of the Heat folk who are still big fans of his!

Wolfie - we will struggle to find a game this season with worse free throw shooting than last night! Not the best from either team.

That's a shame in some respect that JJ won't be there - as you say he was a fan favourite.

On the other hand... he creamed us from outside when up at your place last week, so maybe we can mitigate the disappointment with a twinge of relief.
