Seriously people, it's a new dawn for Plymouth basketball, surely it would be a good idea to see how it works before you raise the same stale arguments!!
Quite. I never thought Pat would turn out to be the voice of sanity and reason - but hey, there's a first time for everything! :love

Vince thinks that Flato is the best PG you've ever signed in the BBL and should really help the team.

I really need to get my net sorted at home, seems there has been some interesting points over the weekend!!

Two parts of the same organisation.

Ok, so why are they a nursery team then? Why aren't they the development part of the organisation, as you say? If they were that takes away the restriction on the amount of games they can play for the BBL team?

Take 20% out of the 1st team budget to 'invest' = one less player in the 1st team which only has 6 man rotation - lose more games, lose more than 20% off gate, lose 20% of corporate sponsorship - downward spiral.

Why does it need to be 20%? I assumed that we were paying 7 players? Not sure how taking 1 players salary away adds to 20% of the budget? On another point what happened to the budget because when Airwaves agreed to sponser us again Dave Briggs was saying it was for pretty much the same amount as the year before...then all of a sudden there was a 60% budget cut!! Further the two youngsters you talk about can only play in 8 senior games this year (I think) before they become ineligible for lower division play. That would be far more catastrophic to development then not getting garbage minutes in the BBL and is a point that Damon makes which has been studiously ignored by those who disagree with him.

They can actually play in 50% of games for the BBL side due to the EB rule changes for this year.

Yep, it's a winning team for me too.

So what about Newcastle, they have a winning team (infact they win a WHOLE lot more than we do) and they have got the balance right. The kids there don't get lip service, they get a chance....

JimD's post is excellent and I thoroughly agree with his position on the schools coaching side, should definitely be run by development coaches. However...

I have been an advocate of a single development centre in Plymouth for over 10 years so I am glad to see that Raiders have dropped the pretense of doing development. However, I am slightly bemused as to how Cannons, who had a nationally recognised and successful development set up have allowed themselves to be sucked in to this sham. I would welcome anyone to identify just what Raiders have brought to the Plymouth Marjon Basketball Club; how many coaches?, how many players of national league standard?, how many players at Div 2 who could help get the team into Div 1? I for one struggle to see anything that Cannons have gained by this "merger".

The one thing I see is that "Cannons" now have access to every young player in the city, where before they didn't? That is all I can see though, since Damon is on here perhaps he would be the best person to shed light on this?

It makes my job so much easier- I don't need to come on here and wind you all up, you can do it all on your own!!!!

I'm not trying to wind anyone up, as a paying fan I am asking questions which I feel are important. I only really see a team that is built year on year (unless the money is there to continue to up player wages as it has been recently) and it bemuses me that Raiders still haven't seen the bigger picture i.e. developing home grown players. Yes there is one development but essentially it seems they have dropped theirs rather than a merger of the two clubs?
