Ok Mates, It's the old Slam Man from across the big pond here in Nova Scotia, Canada, just letting you know your prayers have been answered. The Queen has asked for a high flying young American dynamo, from South Carolina, to come torch the Thunder Dome, and that's exactly what Kadiri Richard is going to do. God save the Queen.(She still runs Canada you know and I'd say she has a pretty good basketball eye as well) Anyways, just got a text from Kadiri saying he was en route to London as we speak. A couple of Brit Harriers are picking up the plane halfway across the bay, just to be sure the Russians don't get him. Wouldn't want something as dangerous as Kadiri to get into their hands now, would we? He's been working hard all summer, and will definitely be ready to dominate as soon as he gets off the plane, so give him some room. Just like a horse at the starting line, ready to bolt at the firing of the gun. Please welcome this young man to your town and make him feel at home. I only wish we were so lucky to have him here in Halifax this season. Looks like I'll have to settle for some tier 2 entertainment for yet another year until somewhere here gets serious and brings the "big fella" back home. Enough said, the Slam Man has spoken. Good luck Kadiri, we'll be cheering for you. Your Scotian family is proud of you! |

OK, I'm sold. The man is a defensive beast! Not sure what the stats were but Richard was swatting everything against Plymouth. Awesome. |

Fantastic night at the Thunderdome. Can't say that anyone stood out particularly which actually says that we have some good depth, I think. My only concern was that we seemed to be lacking a bit of inside game. |

Yeah, the scoring was spread wide and far... Petroslav Zafirov 22 Ville Makalainen 19 Sherrad Prezzie-Blue 18 Reggie Bratton 18 And this was even with a few too many turnovers. The team spirt looked really good, planty of hard work and smiles. A few more games under thier belts and many of theose turnovers should be history. Good to see a bench that got involved and not just used when the starters were dead on thier feet. I know its early but im pretty excited about what was on the court tonight. So much so that i think my meeting in Leeds on Thursday may now have to drag on to Friday so i can be in Shefield for the evening. |

'only' 5 Saintpat wont be happy with that! I think it was probably about 7 or 8 but more importantly how many more shots did he alter with his tough D? They took over 5 minutes to score their first basket inside, because Mt.Richard was not letting them in. And in the 4th quarter too, they resorted to a lot of outside shots which is where we built the lead up. No one disappointed in this game but Kadiri put in my favourite performance. |

Well mates, the old Slam man knew it was only a matter of time before "the big man" from South Carolina would start to win you over. Something splendid to watch indeed eh? (Eh, is the Canadian signature we insert in all international correspondences to ensure folks know we are true blue Canuck hosers by birth) Is the basket still standing, or has Kadiri pulled it to the ground in the first week or two? You see here in Canada we see all sorts of players from the US come up here to compete, young up and comers, guys that have already seen their best days, and only once in a very long while, the "Real Deal" which is what we had when Kadiri played here for a season before moving on to improve his game in Wilmington with the Sea Dogs last year. Exciting? Oh yes! Humble? Oh yes, and willing to do whatever it takes for the team? Oh yes. Glad to hear that you guys and gals are as appreciative of Kadiri's efforts as we were while he played here in his favorite Canadian city, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Way to go Kadiri, looks like it won't be long before you are number one in the hearts of all Thunder fans. Please make sure you find out where they serve the best IPA, line up Nick and I a couple of complimentary front row seats, and somehow we'll find a way to get across the pond and watch you destroy the opposition in the ThunderDome, just like the old days when you wore #5 for the Rainmen in Halifax. Scotians always stick together, now matter how far apart we are. Slam man |

Thought the same thing Sam, the ones he didn't block he was still rising up to challenge them which made them change their shots at the last second. He's going to be a big presence for us in the middle anchoring our d. Cracking start to the season and i'd say there's more to come. We're gonna be a very exciting team to watch this year. Always looking to run and playing some intense d. |

So what was more exciting - Kadiri's blocks or Reggie's hang time? :D |

or Sherrad's 3 pont shooting? (6/6!) Pepe's work rate? Ville's defence? However, back to your question Sam, i would have to say its was the blocks for me, although i thought Reggie was great, and really aggressive getting to the basket. We look like we can score from anywhere and stop anything. |

When Janis gets back and we have that extra depth in the front court we really will be a team that runs deep top to bottom. Did anyone else agree that Sam did an excellent job in the starting role? Also our English guys, especially JB seemed to be playing with a great amount of confidence. |

Totally agree, the team seemed a lot more intergrated than last year with the bench playing an important and valuble role not just offering breathing space. Sam was excellent and looks like there will be more to come from him too. JB looked like a different player, totally belonges at this level. Pts off bench 28, compared to just 3 from Plymouth. Ok much of this was having Ville on the bench to start but still. It was good to see the bench have the opertunity to put in the some valuble minutes at the end too. I know it is very early days, but i think, despite the turnovers and some awkward transition play, that the squad looks really impressive this year. Add Janis back in the mix and possibly Ciaran Burns(?) and we have a genuinly strong team right through. The key is going to be who settles in as a team quickest. I thought another positive was that i appeared that a team spirit was already forming. OK, time will tell on that one, and a few bad results will test it, but everyone seemed to be getting on and supporting each other. |

Is Ciaran coming back then? Yes Sam did well and I was surprised - I think when a young local player comes in you always assume he's just going to sit on the end of the bench and only play garbage time, but that's clearly not the case. Sussex consistently produces good quality players (Pat Bates, JB, DH, Sam Mead, and of of course Dan and Richard Midge to name but a few) who can play at the BBL level or higher. And yes lets not forget the achievements by P-Blue at the arc and Pepe's work rate (it was great to see him have a good game after iffy reports from the warm up games) but in terms of excitement the blocks and hops were what captured my imagination most.

that was based on a comment in the programme saying that Janis and Ciaran had long term injuries and, quoted from Frank Gainsbury's intro, "I suspect it will be a good few weeks before we see them back on court". Sounds like Ciaran is at least still in the clubs thoughts. |

Whats all this talk about blocks- I didn't see any. What I saw was total destruction by KD. He is awesome and what I like most of all is the way he goes about his business. He is totally aggressive on the floor but does not appear to ruffle anyones feathers- he talks and smiles with the refs and the other players and after one of those 'destructive rejections' there was a great smile at the crowd who were still applauding it as he run back up court. Okay- I am sold on KD, better than we could have imagined. The rest of the team- well they are not too bad either. Just what will they be able to produce when they really gel? I know Raiders were a bit light team wise- are they a bit cash strapped this year? Play-offs here we come!!!

Who is this Mickcafc guy anyway? Obviously one clever dude (Canuck slang for mate). He's seen KD perform in only one game, and he already sees the magic he'll bring to the ThunderDome this season, and trust me mates, he'll bring this magic every night he "takes care of business" on the court. Glad to hear you British folks are making Kadiri feel at home. He's a pro for sure, but just a heads up, I'm planning on starting my own Pro BBall team here is Bedford, Nova Scotia, Canada next season, and KD is #1 on my wish list. I'll be throwing "BIG MONEY" at him trying to lure him back to his "Scotian" home. But for the 2009/2010 season, enjoy his game, his smile, and his attitude. "Now that's really it." Slam man signing off for now to go find a cold Garrison IPA, best beer in the world. Typing makes me damn thirsty! |
