What ambition do the Eagles have that Everton don't? |

Thanks for the heads up Dave This would be a great signing if it comes off. I am not getting too excited until I see something announced by the club - following our football brethren through this summer transfer window has taught me that all too well.
Although the club are clearly playing their cards close to their chest in relation to signings - with an early Arena tie it might make sense to manage the press and PR a little tighter to build momentum. Each signing has the potential to generate column inches in the Echo and these will be vital in putting backsides on seats in the Arena. Just my opinion though.
What an outrageously blinkered comment - in what context could signing for a club that has the assistant coach of the national programme Tap wishes to be part of represent him lacking Ambition? A Club that pushed Newcastle hard last year and will hopefully be in the mix for silverware again this year. A club that aims to be playing in Europe soon (as Newcastle does I am sure). A club that is demonstrating that despite its relative newness - compared to established teams - it is serious about growing the sport in Merseyside and the UK. Ambition! So a player wanting to earn a little bit more of what they think they are worth, whilst working with an Assistant GB Coach to improve international prospects whilst still ensuring they are in the mix for silverware shows the player lacks Ambition! - Increase Salary - check - Push International Profile - check - Compete for Silverware - check The only thing you are really confusing with the word ambition seems to be match night attendance - which is more due to the process of establishing and growing the sport in the city (which is an Ambitious project) and one that many players would like to be part of. I do hope Tap does sign for the Tigers as I think he will be a fantastic asset. |

Any player moving for ambition would not be in the BBL. Every player in the BBL who has ambition wants to be playing in LEB gold or France Pro A, not for another BBL club. His twitter feed suggests getting a better agent next summer (which rather indicates he doesnt see himself in the BBL for long!) As ever it comes down to money : eagles cant or wont meet his own valuation and someone else will. Good luck to him in all games except against us. |

Dave I agree that it is many players ambition to play in Europe and in higher leagues. I am sure Tap is the same as most players in that regard. My point was only about the underlying assumption amongst a couple of Eagles fans that signing for Everton would be showing a lack of ambition that somehow signing for Newcastle wouldn't. A bit of a blinkered view and overly partisan - also grossly unfair on the player presuming he has not made a considered view on where he wants to play his ball and who he wants coaching him - obviously as the best route to meeting his own ambitions. Anyway I have no idea how credible sources outside the city and the club are in relation to who is and isn't signing for Everton so I am not getting carried away. But I would be made up with it if it's true |

I suppose the point is that in the BBL hierarchy as it currently stands it is an (extremely minor) step down. But the point I was making is that as far as a young player is concerned it really doesnt matter where in the league he is playing if he is making enough money. What matters is the status of the league. (ie ambition is to play in spain, turkey, greece etc). I agree that with no formal announcement we must not assume. If it does happen it will be extremely interesting to see how it works. Tap played very little in the first half of last year and really came into his own only when Lynard went down. (For all the hype we gave him his averages over the full season were about the same as Randy george! - of course that is nowhere near the full picture). We all thought of him as a work in progress because his offensive game is not really that refined, what he brought though was an excellent work ethic and an intensity on the glass. As such the eagles became a perimeter orientated team fast break type team (with few post ups) with Defoe and Toney outworking the opposition on the glass but not actually having any plays run for them. (that was probably Fabs greatest achievement last year - changing the nature of his offense halfway through and handing the keys over to the mercurial but occasionally erratic Trey). So i suppose what I am saying is that he needs the right structure around him to be as effective as he was at the end of last year. Which if he signs for everton will be Tonys challenge. That said, he is one hell of a lot of fun to watch! |

toney is a smart guy if he does sign with everton,if it wasn't for lynard getting hurt he wudda been on da bench as he was when l was healthy,so da oppertunity to go elswhere is smart as lynard is healthy an defoe is bac,so y go back to newcastle anhave to share all those min wit l an defoe if he's ganna play 28-35 a night wit everton an work on da part of his game he needs to. some people are jus ignorant when it comes to players leaving to benefit themself, how bout we jus congratulate toney on signing 4 a team an being in a situation that is best 4 him.... |

True, I know heard someone once say " They dont pay him to write such rubbish do they?" Seriosly though looking forward to bumping into you a couple of times during the season, either at Chester or at Everton, your silly idea of playing on a Friday night makes travelling up to you an impossibility unless its half term. |
