It's hilarious that no one wants him (again!). Too bad all the people who argued with me 7 years ago are all gone. A crap player who somehow became popular by jacking up 30 shots a night (thus scoring a lot of points) yet everyone ignored that his teams always sucked and did better without him. Of course his supporters love to point out that he took a team to the NBA finals but... a. why focus on that one year and ignore all the first round exits? and b. when AI took them to the finals they needed 7 games to beat the Raptors and the Bucks. Neither the Raptors nor Bucks were ever heard from before or after that season. Obviously the Sixers weren't world beaters by any stretch and got hammered 4 to 1 by the lakers. Anyway now that the Sixers, Nuggets and Pistons have all decided to throw him away like the bad trash he is, he can't find a job in the NBA. The Miami Heat have decided that Quentin Richardson is a better fit than A.I. and the Memphis Grizzlies have decided that Jason Williams - who is almost the same age and has been out of the NBA for a year - will be a better fit. The Clippers have said no thanks. That leaves the Bobcats and today Larry Brown has expressed doubts he can get A.I. on the team. But best of all is that there are now more anti-Iverson articles than ever! It is great! Finally journalism has become interesting. http://www.inquisitr.com/33184/why-cant-allen-iverson-get-a-job/ " On the court he is a me first ball hog who doesn’t make any of his teammates better. On top of that what has Iverson done in his career? One appearance in the NBA finals, that doesn’t seem to be enough to convince anyone to give this man a job." http://www.freep.com/article/20090812/SPORTS21/908120411/1217/SPORTS/Iverson-can-t-get-deal--but-can-draw-wrath-of-NBA-execs "If I'm Gregg Popovich, I don't want to touch the kid with a 10-foot pole. He doesn't guard, he's late to practice, and then you have the media hanging on his every word." http://www.newsday.com/columnists/barbara-barker/allen-iverson-would-be-a-poison-for-the-knicks-1.1345105 "Allen Iverson would be poison for the Knicks" http://www.1070thefan.com/sterling/blogentry.aspx?BlogEntryID=10045198 "Iverson would be a terrible fit for the Pacers" http://www.examiner.com/x-13383-Detroit-Pistons-Examiner~y2009m8d7-How-NBA-veteran-Allen-Iverson-ruined-his-career-in-Detroit "While other general managers were focusing on developing team-oriented rosters, the Sixers went the opposite direction and gave Iverson a free pass to shoot 40 times a night. They knew how marketable he was, and so they basically acknowledged their willingness to live and die with his shooting touch 82 times a season. With zero NBA titles to their credit, you'd be crazy to consider this type of strategy beneficial." http://tsnsixthman.blogspot.com/2009/04/ais-tarnished-legacy.html "Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The act has finally worn thin. As far as I'm concerned, Allen Iverson is a Broadway play that should close after 886 performances. After all, who would want a 34-year-old undersized guard that struggles on the defensive end, ignores his own teammates and loathes practice?" http://bleacherreport.com/articles/211652-nba-free-agency-allen-iverson But hey he could sure score a lot! But did all that scoring lead to wins? Here is his career: -Iverson in the playoffs: 2009: Faked and Injury 2008: Lost in first round 0-4 2007: Lost in first round 1-4 2006: Did not make playoffs 2005: Lost in first round 1-4 2004: Did not make playoffs 2003: Won first round 4-2, Lost in second round 2-4 2002: Lost in first round 2-3 2001: Won first round 3-1, won second round 4-3, won third round 4-3, Lost in finals 1-4 2000: Won first round 3-1, lost in second round 2-4 1999: Won first round 3-0, lost in second round 0-4 1998: Did not make playoffs 1997: Did not make playoffs 13 Seasons = Did not make the playoffs 4 times, Lost in first round 4 times, Lost in 2nd round 3 times, made NBA finals once. |

By the way, the Bobcats seem to be Iverson's last shot at getting an NBA gig but even that is in doubt. It has been reported that Charlotte will sign him this week but.... http://www.freep.com/article/20090821/SPORTS03/908210366/1356/SPORTS/Larry-Brown-sees-hurdles-to-Allen-Iverson-deal "One is the money; we wouldn't want to make him an offer that would insult him," Brown said. "And with three small guards (Raja Bell, D.J. Augustin and restricted free agent Raymond Felton) already on the roster, he wouldn't get to play the minutes he deserves. "Until one or both of those things changes, I don't see it." |

I dont think anyones going to argue with you or post article links as.... we have lives. you on the other hand are just a sad little exscuse of a man who likes to point out peoples weaknesses and ignore the strengths. youre just as bad as the people who say iverson is the greatest player ever. All big charcaters have good points and bad points but lets not forget he was a very good scorer, pesky and not terrible defender and still got as many assists as an average combo guard. |

Sounds like Memphis DO want him, but what a kick in the teeth for Iverson that is. Only the Grizzlies want him, ouch. Everyone talks about the Clippers being regular losers but the Grizz are just as bad - what is it, 2 playoff spots and no wins in their entire existence? |

It's actually 3 appearances and 0 wins which makes them even worse IMO! Given they also gave away the only real superstar player in franchise history for one of the biggest draft busts of all time, I'd say the Grizz are right up (or right down) there with the Clippers in the futility stakes. |

I have to say at this point in his career, he really let himself down with his whining in Detroit. If he'd have shut up and done what coach asked he might even still be there, or at least more likely to get with a good team now. Ted wasn't always right about AI, but now at this point you have to say it's obvious why no one wants him aside from a bad team needing to sell tickets. |

Actually Sam I was always right, there have always been GM's and articles in the press that have accused him of being selfish. Always. He has not made anyone around him better ever. His teamates (Stackhouse, Mutombo, Hughes, Kukoc) have openly criticized his play and he has fueded with almost all of his coaches. He has only been past the first round of the playoffs 3 times out of 13 seasons. And his team, the 76ers tried to trade him several times. Sam, I was right, period. There is no logical argument that you can make for a guy who shot 40% and turned the ball over more than anyone else in the NBA. Period. But now that he is on the Grizzlies they will win the championship. |

In his prime he was one of the best players but its a team game and he never had a brilliant team around him. Even LeBron has just found out this year, no matter how great you are, you still need a lot of help and the other Cavs just weren't good enough to beat Orlando. Kobe is another - without Shaq he missed the playoffs, went out in the first round several years in a row and only now has been able to lead a team to the rings but it involved the Lakers robbing Memphis of Gasol and some other good moves to make the whole roster respectable, oh and a KG injury, for Kobe to do anything in this league. Iverson does shoot too much but so does Kobe. Both also can rack up assists when needed. But Iverson never had help in Philly (Keith Van Horn? Larry Hughes? George Lynch?!) and still made one final (yes, we know the East sucked then, as it did the following 2 years when Jason Kidd made his only finals appearances. Incidently Kidd has come in and the Mavs have got worse but no one seems to criticise him for that). In Denver it was never going to work as they had 2 guys who should be a teams leading scorer in Melo and Iverson. If the Nugs had traded Melo for Billups I imagine the results would have been pretty similar to what we saw happen because Melo and Iverson are very similar players. And yes in Detroit Iverson blew it, I've already agreed to that one. Mitch Richmond never took the Kings past round 1 and hardly ever made the playoffs, but he is still regarded as one of the best players in the last 20 years (well, top 50). Iverson had better scoring stats than Richmond and a higher win rate. But everyone will say the Kings never put good players around Richmond. But apart from Melo and Mutombo (who was a different kind of player and not a superstar type) which hall of famers has Iverson had with him to get the job done? |

Sam, what the hell is this nonsense? Iverson had Chris Webber who averaged 18 points and 9 rebounds while playing with Iverson, he had Mutombo who won the defensive player of the year with Iverson, he had Aaron Mckey who won the 6th man of the year, he had Jerry Stackhouse who once was 2nd in the NBA in scoring, not to mention Rip Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Carmelo Anthony, Marcus Camby, etc Stop blaming everyone else for Iverson's failures. Like I said, his own team tried to trade him and all the teams has played for wanted him gone at some point. Name another star who has had 3 teams want him gone? And Iverson's field goal percentage is considerably lower than all the players you mentioned. If you're gonna try and make an argument for Iverson, please stop blaming everyone around him because the facts don't bare that out. |

Yeah as usual you are wrong. Iverson lead the NBA in turnovers in the 2004/2005 season with 4.6 turnover per game (that is shockingly bad). He also lead the NBA in turnovers in 2003/2004 and the 2000/2001 season. He was in the top 5 in turnovers most of his career. |

I am also curious as to why Iverson's field goal percentage is WAY lower than all the other star shooting guards? Is that everyone elses fault too? When he shot 38% for an entire season that wasn't his fault either right? Face it, some of you guys just like his crossovers and ignore his all too common 8 for 22 shooting nights with 4 turnovers. Reggie Miller always use to destroy Iverson but he didn't do crossovers and get in trouble off the court so he didn't become a star like A.I. |

Right and how many finals did Reggie play in? How many rings did he win? How many MVPs and scoring titles? You mention some of the supposed 'talent' Iverson had to help him - Webber was injury prone and past his best by the time he got shipped to Philly. But they were not a terrible team led by those 2. Mutombo I mentioned, yes he was a great defender but he wasn't much of a scorer so AI would still be needing to carry the scoring load since the rest of the team then was pretty much role players (but they still made the finals at this time). Stackhouse was never a superstar. You say he scored a lot of points but your main criticism of Iverson is that he shot the ball too much, surely Stack must have done the same thing as he certainly never developed into a top all round player. If he was good at other things, he would have gone on to be a better player than he was because on good teams he would have filled roles other than scoring, but he was only ever the team leader for a poor Wizards team, and was unable to contribute much at all when at the much better Mavs. Besides which, when Stack and Iverson were paired both were in their first 2 or 3 years in the league so you wouldn't expect them to have much success. Aaron Mckie won 6th man - wow! He was a role player too. How many all star teams did he make? You also mentioned Rip and Tay but you seem to have missed my agreement that Iverson did blow it in Detroit, more through his attitude than his game though. At this point in his career he does need to accept a lesser role and try to fit in with others leading, and had he had that attitude in Detroit they would have done better and he might still be there. Finally, I can give you a superstar who has been traded 3 times by 3 teams. I forget his name now but he drinks Pepsi and was in some movie called Kazzam. Quite tall. Sam that was a stupid reply. Reggie Miller won far more games than Iverson and Reggie dominated AI when they played head to head. Do you honestly think Reggie couldn't have lead the league in scoring if he wanted to? Are you stupid? As for Shaq being traded - he ASKED for two of those trades. Sam stop being so ####ing stupid and answer my question - why do you blame everyone else for Iverson's pathetic shooting percentage, turnover rate and winning percentage? Name another star with such pathetic numbers please. Until then you lose. |
