In the next couple of months the Lilleshall Inter-Region competitions happen (1996 born how scary) - the first chance to see potential future internationals/stars of junior national league.

Any names we should be looking out for or regions we should expect to be strong this year?

Pretty sure they havent been changed. Still a couple of months away but you would hope that coaches have got their squads together and have a rough idea of the level of talent in the age group?

Anyone know anything? London have won it for the last couple of years - In National League the South have been strong in the younger age groups recently so its interesting to know what people think and if there are any little gems out there???

Yorkshire Girls might have a gem in guard April Thomas who plays NL for Leeds Carnegie (I'm biased a little- she is from Calderdale like me- but she can definitely play)

1996 Born Boys: The best kid I have seen or heard of is a kid who will be playing for the East. His name is something Robinson and he's a beast. Big, strong, quick and very skilled for a kid of his age/size. He's from the Ipswich team that won the final fours last season, apparantly he ripped Sheffield up before he got in foul trouble - he looks about 20!!

However, as so often is the case with talented kids he has a very questionable attitude!!

I don’t think he has an attitude problem, we played them twice both times he had more than 30, and both times he shock hands with my plays and had a chat with me about are point guard.

Not shore if he’s the best player of his age, Ipswich have another boy a guard, not sure what his name is but he has an American accent, now that boy has some serious potential I have never send such a well rounded player at 13. I think that he was starting for Ipswich U16

The American kid is a 95 and so doesn't qualify for this discussion in terms of talented 1996 bon kids. However, that kid was a real talent............ I heard that he is eligable to play for England?

I only say that kid has an attitude problem because I saw him playing for Suffolk's 94's and 95's in Nottingham at the ESBBA tournament where i was shocked to hear he was a 96 as he look the 95 competition apart but got very frustated at times.

Ipswich also have another huge kid (6'8) who has only just started playing - but he could get taken at Lilleshall if he is playing for the East? They seem to have a knack of finding big kids over there, they must be growing these kids on all of those farms they have in Suffolk!!

A question for those of you in the know!!

How do you get picked to play for your region - are you put forward by your club/school, or do you just have to be spotted?

Yes - well done London.

However, the main purpose of Lilleshall is for the kids with the most potential to be showcased so that future national team players can be identified as early as possible.

In terms of being picked for your region - its down to the coaching staff to follow the most effective selection process for their area. Trials or an inter-county tournament usually finds the most kids. But also communicating with club and schools coaches needs to happen if you are to find the best kids from your region.
