Hello all, Simon here from Coalville Basketball Club.

Does anyone know if there is a website for "players looking for clubs" and "clubs looking for players" in the UK?

We have a large number of players looking to play for our team but we would like to strengthen in certain areas. As this is my first season looking after an EBL team I wondered if anyone knows of an online community for this reason?

I'm pretty sure there isn't one.

It wouldn't be a bad idea, but would probably take a lot of work

Yeah I added something on there. Problem is that its not very flexible to show what level you are at, so I keep getting emails from high end pro players.

The search continues.... :party

I think its always going to be hard for teams that operate on there own in a lower division, have to use the good old recruitment methods from local leagues etc, having associations with a team in the hign end of the ladder is never a bad thing as they always have players that need minutes and will drop down just to play.

there are sections for amateur clubs on basketballmarket- we have used it to try and get players for our local league womens team

you (having looked at the site this morning) have stated you are looking at players from D1 to D4 level- too high maybe?

I know what you are saying but we have players training with us that have played at D1 and D2 before so we are just extending an offer to anyone really.

I think the division option on that website is a bit dodgy as it doesn't seem to be relevant for each country. I think you can choose down to D11 so I just picked D1 to D4 as they are the divisions we have.

Anyway thanks for all your advice!

i know American Players Earl Moore and Antonio Stix Bright both want to play in the UK. Both averaged over 26 points a game in 2007 and helped lead a well undersized Solent team that was playing with mainly junior players to the playoffs. Both could help any EBL team and every BBL team. Both players did well in ABA and made it to final cuts for NBDL teams and still may get picked up. I know the former Solent Coach would love to get back overseas as well.

I'm not going to charge for this advice :hug
Don't sign Bright. Even if he does qualify for a work permit, he doesn't live up his name.

Bright and Moore were terrific in a game at Worthing back in '07. I forget which way round it was but we played them 2 weeks in a row, one was the final reg.season game and the next was round 1 of the playoffs, and in 1 of the games we blew them out, leading by 50 odd at times, but the other game was tight as hell and a real nail biter. I think it was the playoff game. Bright and Moore were just outstanding in it and threw down some nice dunks too. :clap

Worhing won by 12 in playoff game was close throughout. Moore had 42 and Bright had high 20s maybe 30. The week before I think both teams played starters sparingly and OHarabee might have been suspended that game Worthing won by around 20-25. Worhting's American SF cant recall his name had a breakout game with eight threes and Worthings inside tandem killed them on boards. Solent did good with what little talent they had besides Americans. Didn't their whole team but Milner and and Payne form the Southampton Trailblazers before the American Coach Kirby arrived. He did good job with what he had i think most people did not think they would win more than two games.

Kirby did well there - helped by a ref T'ing me while I was sitting in the crowd to give them a two point win against Leopards :banghead

Pretty much everything went through the two Americans, with O'Haribe as the third option.

Bright can play, it's the baggage which comes with him.

Bright seemed very professional when he was at Solent. only time I ever knew of him or Moore ever being the slightest bit upset was when they got paid a week or two late I probably would be too if it were me. Otherwise they were two of the best. Coach Kirby I enjoyed seeing the big guy on the sidelines very good coach. Good bloke off the court would really get after the refs at times and then shake hands and talk with them aftrewards as if he had known them for years.

Because he didn't have much (if any) coaching work to do. And because he didn't have to get on a train to practice.
I can't see a D4 team being able to afford him purely as a player, but if he does get rich perhaps he pay back the money he owes us :wink

sad, did not know that sounds complicated; just remember both players were excellent and surprised that neither stuck around in England especially Moore he was, very versatile could score, rebound and assist and was a guard. Of course, Ott and Fowler and Puff were outstanding and Deas up in Sheffield was a very dominant center as well. So that was you that got T 'd I think I remember that. I wonder what happened to all of those players.
