Anyone know how the team is shaping up for this season, any of last years player likely to be around?

All that has been mentioned so far is that Patton is/has gone to Sharks?

What chances of Woods or Colby resigning?

Argus mentioned that Janis is a top proirty for Titmus, but heard nothing other than this...

Any word on Wardrope, Burns, Midgley, Hildreth, Brame or Berry?

Don't know anything solid yet. Wouldn't be surprised if Dan Wardrope retires. Danny Hildreth has pretty much taken up every role Thunder has this season, but haven't put in him as a player as I hear Coach Titmuss is recruiting through Thunder's summer training camps. As for the others - watch this space.........

It's still early days, would hope for one announcement by the end of July though just to keep the news moving - even if it's just to say Brame will be back (well dur), at least it gets a bit of ink out there!

I'm only entering my second season as a Thunder fan and this is the first time i have experinced supporting a team where no one is under contract come the end of the season. I'm just suffering a basketball free summer and getting itchy for info...I'm sure i will get used to it but its all very new to me at the mo.

Please dont compare Basketball close and pre-season to football in any way.

The usual style is, club announces that it has signed a couple of Americans and a handful of other locals/EU passport players plus one non EU pasport overseas player from Kazakstan (or thereabouts). One or two arrive before the season starts (Usually Worthing born ones).
The 6'10" Americans arrive separately a week apart and after the start of the season. They have shrunk by 5" and 7" respectively on the flight to England and we find the video tapes were taken in a kindergarden court to make them look big with huge dunkability.

One of the non European players has work permit problems and cannot play and is released back to their origin.

We lose the pre season friendlies in which we play a couple of trialists. We like one of the trialists who is offered a contract. He signs up but then realises his dog is still locked in his kennel at home so decides to leave after week three.

The 'short' Americans now show that the only chance of grabbing a rebound is when the opposition have all been expelled from the arena (some will recall I have experience of that!)

The Leisure Centre announces a brand new floor will be installed- in the middle of the season- throwing fixtures into turmoil. The bucket on the ceiling overflows and shorts out Dave's mic (not a bad thing!)

Our sponsors go bust and we have to patch over a new sponsor on the shirts which by now have 5 layers of material on them. Warm up kit is still advertising Blue Circle cement.

You probably have some idea by now of the expectancy of the average basketball teams 'pre-season' and early season incidents.

The only hope we have now is new coach Titmus who appears may be setting a few ground rules that will show that events of the past will now be exactly that- a thing of the past!

Heres looking forward to whatever the new season throws at us. :laugh :laugh

Good work, Mickcafc
Unforunately you've missed out:
"losing" the club car, flying back to the States in a huff when it's pointed out that "losing" the club car isn't a good idea, and then refusing to come back with an extension to your contract.

Going home for Christmas, and ralising you prefer sleeping with your girlfriend/boyfriend/cat to playing basketball.

Driving a club car while seriously drunk (and already banned) across a golf course and then fleeing the country

Deliberately playing badly in late/post season games in order to go home and play in the States.

Disappearing for a week due to toothache.

I'm sure there's more.

Indeed there are. I just didn't want to give Mr Flea the impression we were being run any differently than Manchester City! (Come to think of it- bar a little cash we are not)

Of course this year there is a risk the Team Astra will have finally given up trying to run on petrol and will self convert to diesel. Clearly the American players are more for dual fuel than the President. Thats if the dear old Astra was not written off on its last jog around the Oval Raceway.

I was also hoping there would be a share issue this summer so we could all get a piece of the club.

I'm just unsure what bit of the backboard I want to share when it finally collapses.

On a more serious note, glad to see some news on the player front today so it appears as its still only July any cynicism may evaporate. :laugh :laugh :laugh

We've given up on club cars - having to tow one off a roundabout was the final straw.
However, I was the only one to ever put unleaded in a diesel - though if they hadn't tried to run it on thin air, I wouldn't have been lugging plastic drums of fuel around.

good article about latest signings from the Worthing Herald.

http://www.worthingherald.co.uk/worthing-sport/BASKETBALL-Thunder-squad-is-up.5611602.jp

Slightly worring about work permits, but nothing to panic about yet. Titmus also mentions he is looking for another couple of plyers to add to squad.

It does look like a strong team, with good options on the bench.
