Apparently Yao Ming may not play basketball again as his latest foot injury isn't healing as it should. At best he's likely to miss all of next season. I feel really bad for the guy, he deserves better than that and if he never plays again it'll be a shame as he only played 6 seasons and Houston was on the rise. I don't see them being a threat without him, despite how they played those 4 games (well, 2 of them) against the Lakers after he got hurt. T-Mac is due to miss the first half of the season too, but frankly I don't even consider him relevant anymore to the Rockets - he's so unreliable and misses so much time, and it's doubtful he can play his best anymore now anyway. Losing Yao is a much bigger blow to the Rockets. It's a shame for Chinese basketball too - Yi Jianlian is hardly a replacement for Yao as the country's top player!

Really big guys like Ilgauskas and Yao must put incredible pressure on their bodies trying to play with the relatively smaller super athletes they are competing with on a daily basis. I'm sure Yao will play again as the body is an amazing thing but perhaps it will be a significant lay-off and when he returns they will need to manage his minutes carefully.
