England Under 18’s Come to Derby – Sunday June 28th 2009 England’s Under 18 basketball team will be in Derby on Sunday, as they continue their preparations for the FIBA U18 European Championships in Bosnia next month. The matches will follow hot on the heals of a training camp at Loughborough University on Saturday. The England Under 18 Assistant Coach Tim Lascelles, who also coached Derby’s own Under 18’s to the National Championship title in May this is year is delighted to be able to bring the England programme to the City of Derby. “I’m delighted the Trailblazers have opened up their facilities up to the England programme. It’s an important time for the Under 18 players, as we’re now only four weeks away from the tournament in Bosnia. “It’s also particularly pleasing from my perspective to see three of our own players wearing England vests on Sunday. Mikey [Manghum], Tom [Pereira] and Rema [Lascelles] have all worked really hard for this opportunity,” he said. The programme for Sunday’s day of basketball at Derby’s Noel Baker School is as follows: • 11AM – England Under 18’s v Derby Trailblazers Select Team • 2PM – England Under 18’s v Wales Under 18 Following the weekend double header in Derby, the England U18’s will be off to Belgium for a five day camp plus two international games. The FIBA U18 European B-Division Championships take place in Bosnia from July 23rd through to August 2nd. Fixtures in the opening round of the competition are as follows: • July 23 v Belgium • July 24 v Austria • July 26 v Switzerland • July 27 v Portugal Further matches will be determined based on results in this first round stage. |
