For those who follow the Bristol Academy Flyers EBL1 team, here is some information for you.

Team website is now www.bristolacademyflyers.co.uk
Flyers fan site is www.unofficialflyers.webs.com

Flyers have signed two new players for the 2008/09 season in the shape of Brody Bishop and John Grazioli.

Abe Ahmed retired last season, Adam Simons and Ryan Williams also departed.

This year the Flyers are introducing some of their young academy players into the team, to give them a chance in the big league. So far they have handled the changes very well, and should get frequent team places during this season.

Gareth Till has remained as Captain, and with most of last years team staying on again this season, we look forward to a great year.

Dont forget to post your Flyers thoughts on here.

My appologies for not managing to post about the cancellation of the Cardiff game pre- tip off, but I was only told of the problems at the WISE late afternoon on Friday, and was kept busy updating the Flyers fan site.

The only game played involving Flyers teams this weekend was the Div1 clash away to Derby. Again it seems like it was a close match, with Bristol ending up victorious by 10 points.
Final score was 67 - 77.

With Sheffield and Tees Valley both loosing their games, and Leopards playing in the trophy semi finals, it gave Flyers the chance to up the pressure on Leopards a little more.
With nearly all our games against the top three played, confidence is growing in the Flyers camp of a top three finish. They are of course still to play Sheffield this season, and Leopards wont give up the spot easily, so its fingers crossed in the West Country City.

There was a lack of love being shown on court this Valentines night, as Flyers took on local West Country rivals, Taunton Tigers. Tigers, who had yet to beat the Bristol team again this season, started off strong, holding Flyers to 43-43 at the half time hooter.

The turning point of the game came in the third, with Flyers scoring 37 points to Tigers 15, and with ex Taunton player, Alastair Bird taking 4 points in the last against his old team, took Flyers into triple figures.
Final score Flyers 102 - 76 Tigers

Also this week, Flyers rising stars Tyrone Treasure got his invite to join the top 20 Under 20's players in the UK with a chance to be in Team GB, and Rob Loftman also got his invite to join the English Under 18's team as they prepare for Europe this summer. Good luck to both players.

Saturday is balling day at the WISE this week. Flyers own youth developement centre is open as normal in the morning, then its a double bill of EBL1 matches to take us into the late evening.

First up is Cardiff Celts V's the mighty Manchester Magic at 4pm. Manchester need a win to keep the pressure on Reading Rockets, who are only two wins away from taking the championship. Reading travel to Cardiff Celts on Sunday for their game which is being played at the Star Leisure Centre.

Then at 7pm its Flyers V's Leopards. Both teams are battling it out for a third place finish, whilst also keeping the pressure on Magic, who are still within range.

All in all, it has the makings of a fantastic day of Basketball in Bristol.

Firstly, my appologies to those who use this thread as a way of keeping up with whats happening in Bristol, but I will try and bring you up to date now.

Since my last posting, Flyers have had a bad run, loosing their last four league games in a row, and are now sitting in 7th place with only three more games to play.

In Feb, London Leopards travelled to the WISE and went home victorious with a 72 - 81 win.
Next up was Coventry, away. Covenrty who were on a run, took the Flyers by suprise, and won 89 - 62.
This was followed by another home defeat at the hands of Sheffield, 78 - 85.
Next up was early championship contenders, Manchester Magic at the Amaechi, and again Flyers came away empty handed and a 84 - 58 loss.

The team have been left in disbelief that what had been a good early showing has turned so wrong, and know now that they must win the final three games if they are to get a good final possition in the table, and a good draw in the quarter finals.

Flyers II have had a much better season, but after holding the top spot for amny weeks, have finally been pushed into second by UWIC Archers, who still have their final game against Plymouth to play this week.

Other news this week.
Bristol Academy Flyers started training a new squad this weekend, in the shape of a girls team. Although this was only the first time they had trained without the rest of the developement centre players around , there was a lot of skill on display. It is hoped that the first Flyers girls team will enter the league next season.

Further information on this and other Flyers related topics are as always, available on both the official Academy website and www.unofficialflyers.webs.com the home of the Flyers Fan Club.

Countdown is on for the start of the new season.
Flyers have made some new signings over the last month and they will be revealed very soon. However, we also lost some of our young players over the Summer.
Richard Loftman has gone to the U.S and will be playing at Chadron State College.
Maki Sule is off to France to the 22ft Camp
Team GB player Tyrone Treasure has taken a scholarship at Panola College in Texas.

Flyers will also be fielding 2 U18 team this season, and also their first Womens team, who will play in EBL Div2 (womens).

New players are always welcome at all age groups.
