A quick google on 'eurobasket 2009 poland' brings up these two links at the top: Wikipedia Eurobasket 2009http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EuroBasket_2009 - the Wikipedia article - dates, venues etc. http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=524247 - Skyscraper City - architectural design of the venues. |

I'll probably be over there. Just as a word of warning regarding booking flights at this early stage - not all the airlines will still be around come Euro 2009. When booking credit card or Visa debit is the way to go! :D BA usually have some good deals in Club to Poland so that would be a good option and being basketball types a bit of legroom is always worthwhile! |

If I can get some money saved over the next year, being a final year student it might be a bit difficult, I'd really like to go, though I would prefer it if it was by an organised supporters group or BPB or someone official like that, though if I can get a group of people together I'd be willing to organise it myself (when I say group I mean small group <10 people). We need as many fans as we can get, ideally 300 (dream big) but at least 50, surely there's 50 people wanting and willing to go. If someone were to offer to organise on behalf of BPB do you think they would help set up an official supporters group? If so who's the best person to put forward who'd be willing to organise this? (And don't just say me, though if I can get some support then I'd be willing to help organise it, that is if I can work out how much it's likely to cost, I'm guessing probably around 2 grand(ish) including flights, hotel, food, etc. If my brother wasn't in Spain right now I'd ask him if he wants to go as then we could start organising this, off topic: he saw Archibald playing for Malaga last night, playing against Murcia in pre-season, packed out arena about the size of the Amaechi, more seats of course. |

If anybody fancies taking the train then this site is excellent: http://www.seat61.com/Poland.htm Might have some info about train travel to other cities as well. |

I think that me and a few of my mates are pretty likely to go. Not sure we'd go as part of any kind of official group though. |

like i've said previousley, if your on a budget, stay in a hostel you will get private ensuite facilities for around £12 per person per night. Some of these are just like travelodges, but with one advantage, they are usually central! Also a 10% deposit is all that is needed to book, then pay the balance on arrival. Budget airlines flights will be out around January, early February. i'll keep all posted as where im staying if anyone else wants to stay there im sure we can sort out a way of group booking. |

I've e-mailed BPB and asked about them setting up a supporters club but had no response as yet, which was no huge surprise, I wasn't really expecting to get a reply until all the games are over. |

After falling out of love with basketball at every level thanks to all the rubbish at Bullets/Panthers this seems like as good a time as any to return. Combined with me retiring at the end of August 2009 a trip to Poland seems as good a way to enjoy my life of Freedom as any. I am definitely up for this trip so count me in on any supporters' club/barmy army/travel association etc. nice to see all you guys stuck with it whatever.......... my respect to you all. Graeme |

When will they announce where each game is being played though? Presumably GB could be playing at different venues across the country? Shame there is nothing in Krackow as that is the best city to stay in for stuff other than basketball. Warsaw is pretty boring all in all. Wroclaw is vast but industrial so not much going on there either. Gdansk is a good bet but quite far from the other places (although they are all spread out obviously!) and Poznan and Katowice are nice areas to go. Im not sure how touristy they get though so hotels and so on may be hard to find. A lot of hotels charge more to foreigners too, so if you know anyone Polish get them to book for you by phone or Polish website, the price will almost certainly be less! |

Well unless we make it out of the 1st round we ain't going to Poznan and we ain't going to Katowice unless we make the Final according to that Wiki page! BTW, that Arena in Wroclaw, on the skyscraper page referenced above, is astounding. You can tell it was built in another age, it looks like a Buddhist Pagoda from the outside! |

You can get low cost flights to all 7 cities involved but I hope we don't get Bydgoszcz because that's the only one you cant get to from a Yorkshire airport (to any Yorkshire fans planning in going- WizzAir currently do Gdansk, Katowice, Poznan, Warsaw and Wroclaw but the flights are mainly 11.15pm ex Doncaster. Jet2 do Krakow from Leeds.) I'll certainly be going |

Wizz Air and Jet2 sound exactly like the kind of airlines which will go bust next...pure speculation on my part though! They are extremely budget and don't operate a massive number of flights, thats all. EasyJet do some routes from Gatwick but I would avoid CentralWings, which is the main airline from Gatwick to Warsaw, as its cancelling a lot of flights at the moment. BA is a good bet but only from Heathrow or to other cities. |

If I seriously decide to do this I'd be looking to fly out to Warsaw and get a train from there to wherever. Have to see what's available from Exeter airport(got to make use of my local airport at some point!) |

You do realise how big a country Poland is don't you? It's f***ing Massive! You'll be sitting on trains for hours, especially if the games are in Gdansk or Wroclaw. The 1st round is split into 4 sites, Gdansk, Poznan, Warsaw and Wroclaw. The 2nd round is in Lodz and Bydgoszcz. The final rounds are in Katowice in case you hadn't read. Here's a Map of Poland the only City that they are using that isn't shown is Poznan. Edited by Inter Tatters, Sep 22 2008, 12:54 PM.

What I do realise is how non-existant direct flights between Exeter and Poland are. Sod that. Particularly as you can get flights from Bristol to eight Polish cities including all the first round cities. Sounds like a much better idea for any fans in SW England. |

Polish beer is 2nd only to Belgium IMO. It's just as strong too! Travelling from Warsaw on a train sounds like a nightmare to any of those cities. I'd try to fly direct, but first find out where GB will be playing obviously! There is sod all to do in Warsaw and Wroclaw though, Im sure they have bars but there isn't a lot of touristy stuff to fill time with. Gdansk will be a good place for GB to end up! It's a real shame there is nothing in Krakow though. |
