Does anyone know if Joel is playing in one of the NBA summer leagues this summer?

Am I right in thinking this season would be the final year of his contract with the Blazers? Then what will happen.

He really doesn't have a shot at the NBA at this point. He needs to look at establishing himself in Europe.

i dont understand why Joel Freeland who is averaging-

10.3 points (2nd in team)
4.3 rebounds (joint 2nd on team)
1.8 off rebounds (joint 1st on team)
0.8 blocks (joint 2nd)
+ is shooting 70.4% from the field (2nd on team)

is averaging 14.3 mins (9th on team out of 11 players)

This is based purely on stats that do not include fouls and turnovers.

From watching my home team (Gran Canria) this season, Joel's involvement certainly seems to have gone up if anything. He is beginning to adapt to the ACB well, and his numbers are improving too.

With Gran Canaria, the stats don't always tell the full story. This team scores evenly, with every player involved, and Coach Maldonado put a lot of emphasis on defensive pressure. Typically, GC games are low scoring affairs, although their offence seems to have improved in recent times. The last game against Estudiantes illustrates the shared scoring load, where Joel got 13, one of 6 players in double figures.

You'll also find many of the players are sharing similar minutes as a result. Coach appears to believe more in Joel this season and i think his minutes will improve if he continues to progress at this rate.

Only my opinion - but hey, it is my home town team so i guess i should share it !! :wink

I might be going to the game on Sunday. Think its against Menorca. 11.30 tip. Will be my second GC game this season :)

n yh by the way i think Joel should be playing atleast 20 minutes a game, The game i saw him play he was a beast, gettin blocks, changing shots on D, getting dunks. The only thing he he could have improved was his 1on1 post play but all in all was a decent game, think he scored like 14 pts in like 15 minutes.

Its a bit off topic but I assume that you must be at the academy LuFu$?

With Ashley having gone to the US we aren't getting Franklyn's view on things so perhaps you could give us a general update on how its going?

Joel gave another excellent contribution leading his team to victory over Menorca - Nice highlights on the game video (ACB TV). He was also picked out on the ACB analysis for the 10 players to watch out for this weekend.
All in all he seems to be making excellent progress - I wonder if it will lead across the pond in the next couple of years? It looks like he could have some nice choices to make.
Pops is also doing well - player of the week last week I believe
Dan Clark played 5 minutes for Estudiantes in their loss this weekend

Joel is progressing really well it is true

However he is nowhere near going back across the Pond

That will be in 3-5 years if it ever happens in my opinion

Joel will earn good money and have a great career as a solid player in the ACB

It is more pertinent that he enjoys a terrific season this year for GB sake

Great progress in the last 12 months mind you

Dan Clark is struggling at Estu in a team that is having a poor time of it

Pops players later and Archibald had another solid display for Unicaja - watched the game today and he was good

Nice to see Brit boys do the business

His points to minutes ratio is amazing! Shooting 70% from the field he should be starting for GC. Looks like he is bringing it all to the table, and he is going to be such a weapon for GB next year.

Since playing with GB, up until now, he is averaging 69% fg, 12.45 points, & 5.27 rebounds in 19 mins over 11 games. I would say he is currently the best UK player at present.

I never have and never will see the basketball myth of the starting five and the fascination of players not having made it until they are in that five

your best five if there ever is one is that you choose to win a game down the stretch

a lot of coaches around the world sneak some players in early

all that matters ios Joel has found a great role in the team and his minutes will grow and should grow

whether he is starting five, is for me an irrelevance

If he is trusted on the floor in crunch time, then that will be more of an indication I reckon!!

The young man continues his stunning start to the season. Again he hits over 70% from the field! Surely must be top 3 if not the top fg shooter in Spain????

He is showing great consistency in his first real season as a top flight player. He is also showing he can make a big contribution in limited minutes.
I think this will work in his favour come contract negotiation time as this season draws on.
