Nothing special really. They've got Germany NT members Patrick Femerling, Johannes Herber and Steffan Hamann. Full squad here. Alba should sign a couple of players this summer so it's not the final squad yet.

They managed to win German league and got in Euroleague. German clubs usually end at the bottom places anyway. Bamberg made a shock when they reached Top 16 a couple of years ago.

The Bundesliga is not a big time league, as well as the ProA (french league).

Hey Vilius, do you know a basketball player named Vitaus Danelius?

Hey Vilius, do you know a basketball player named Vitaus Danelius?
It's Vytas* ;) Yeah I know him. He's not the top level player. Danelius igned with Latvian champions ASK Riga in February. I should be able to see him play in the Baltic League.

Now he is in Las Vegas (Nevada) on the Wizards Summer League roster, but I think he has no chance to stick with the Nba team.
There are rumors about him to sign with an italian team.. Did he play in the Lithuanian league previously?

No, he hasn't. He went to Wake Forest in 2001.

I checked again and he hasn't signed with ASK Riga as he failed medical.

I don't think he's trying or expecting to get an NBA contract to be honest. NBA Summer League is not only watched by NBA teams but also by many scouts from Europe.

In a highly interesting move, top US High School prospect Brandon Jennings has decided to skip college and sign for Roma.

Not sure how well he'll do in the physical Euroleague, but if he were to succeed then he could well start a trend.

What do you think, Villius?
Champion.

This could end in two ways. One way - the guy gets lost playing as a professional in such a strong league. Second way - he adjusts to the new level and is more or less successful. Either way it will be a very valuable experience for him. He won't get much playing time at least not in Euroleague. Jennings will not be able to do things that he could do in a high school. Tactics are very important in Europe. Coming from a high school to play in Europe won't be easy.

Of course to me and I'm sure for many fans it is really interesting. At the moment from his comments it looks like he is either overrating himself or underrating European basketball. So this could lead to a shock.

I think if he learns to be less selfish and more team-orientated then he could be quite a decent player in Europe. He certainly has a lot of physical talent and will probably be the most athletic guard on the continent right from the off.
Champion.

Jennings is an absolute stud that would be an automatic Lottery pick if the NBA didn't have the 1 year in College rule. He has obviously decided to circumvent the rule, and make some money while he's at it, by heading over to Europe for a year or 2. He has been writing in a blog about the NBA's rule being a restraint of trade for some time, now he's taking the ultimate step and heading abroad.

The fact that he was even contemplating this has been discussed on many forums over the last couple of months, with most thinking he was just bluffing, but now he's actually going it'll be interesting to see how many young College studs follow in his foot steps. Especially those that aren't exactly blessed in the academic dept. :doh

Jasmin Repesa will take care of Jennings, the croatian coach of Lottomatica built a lot of young players both in Zagreb (Cibona) and Bologna (Fortitudo). The environment will be very important for the kid..

Lottomatica are building a nice team for the next season. They signed Primoz Brezec from Toronto Raptors. Union Olimpija Ljubljana, Barcelona and Real Madrid were after him too.

This could be revival of Italian league after a few years of fall.

These are the former teams of Brezec:
Quote:

1998-2001: Union Olijmpia

2001-2004: Indiana Pacers

2004-2007: Charlotte Bobcats

2007-Febbbraio 2008: Detroit Pistons

Da febbraio 2008: Toronto Raptors

He comes from Slovenja so he will join another slovenian on Roma team (Sani Becirovic). He told the key for his move to Roma was the presence of Dejan Bodiroga as Gm in the team..
As for rebirth of Italian League, I don't think so.. next year's going to be another two teams challenge with Siena e Roma, everybody will be chasing them. Italy lost Gallinari to Nba and has to renew many teams. The Giba (the players union) threated to go on strike if the rules for the foreigners players aren't going to change...

He was a starter for the Bobcats from 2004-06, but got benched the last couple of years, as he was WAY too soft to man the post in the NBA, and was traded to the Pistons for Nazr Mohammed in the middle of last season.

Anyone note the thrashing of Panathanaikos by Barcelona? They must have a budget miles bigger than Barca!

That was incredible, Juan Carlos Navarro really is a special player.

I live with a Lithuanian at university (albeit a Rytas fan), so I am really getting into Euroleague this year.

Biggest budgets in Europe (taken from here):

1. CSKA Moscow €38 million ($55 million)

2. Olympiacos €37 million ($55.5 million)

3. Panathinaikos €33 million ($48 million)

4. Khimki €31 million ($45 million)

4. Dinamo Moscow €31 million ($45 million)

6. Real Madrid €30 million ($44 million)

7. FC Barcelona €29 million ($42 million)

8. Triumph Lyubersty Moscow Region €21 million ($30 million)

8. Lokomotiv Rostov €21 million ($30 million)

8. UNICS Kazan €21 million ($30 million)

9. TAU Vitoria €20 million ($29 million)

9. Maccabi Tel-Aviv €20 million ($29 million)

Panathinaikos just couldn't get the game going. Navarro is a great player and it's nice to see him back in Europe.

I must say that I am very happy to read the last line of your post (especially second part of it :) ).

Some highlights:

Week 2 Top 10 Plays

Week 2 - MVP: Pops Mensah-Bonsu

Alba are alot better this season than last, helped by getting the o2 arena in Berlin more or less given to them. They signed Casey Jacobsen indirectly from Houston. They are sitting atop the bundesliga right now, admittedly it is not one of the top leagues in Europe, but Alba will be dangerous this season. You also have to remember that Britain is far down the pecking order and alot of teams would expect to win against any British team fairly easily so there's a good chance that Alba were being complacent in the game you mention there.

Partizan almost beat CSKA last night, CSKA prevailed 63-62. Awesome game.

I have to say that the crowd in Belgrade were phenomenal.

Zalgiris are playing Barcelona tonight. Hopefully Navarro will pull out some awesome play again.

Saw two games on Thursday. Great game between Roma and DKV, deserved Badlona win, and Barcalona with a big win in Athens against Pana. I think the OAKA is he most daughting venue to go to, but Barca comfortbaly despatched the men in green. Badalona vs Roma was the game of the night!
