This thread is so we can get all the 'lesser known' teams who have made the Big Dance recognised.

Last night there was a huge shock in the WCC, as San Diego beat Gonzaga to win the WCC Championship and automatically qualify for the the Tourney, making it possible that, for the 1st time, the WCC might actually have 3 berths in the Tourney. Gonzaga are currently ranked #20 in the nation, so they are a certainty and St Mary's were ranked in the top-25 as little as 2 weeks ago, so they look a pretty good bet to make it too.

George Mason won the CAA last night so they're in again, hoping to shock the Nation and make it to the Final 4 as they did 2 years ago. They beat William and Mary in the CAA Championship game, meaning W&M (the College of BBL great Todd Cauthorn) remain one of only 4 Colleges with a Basketball history of over 50 years not to make the NCAA Tourney.

Siena won the MAAC with a win over Rider to earn their berth.

#23 Davidson won the Southern Conference to continue a dream season where they went 20-0 in Conference and 26-6 overall. Their 6 losses came exclusively against the big boys (UNC, Duke and UCLA amongst others)

Others already in (ie they won their Conferences and, as such, get automatic bids)...
Belmont (Atlantic Sun)
Winthrop (Big South)
Drake (Missouri Valley)
Austin Peay (Ohio Valley)

I did mention in another thread that we would be having the annual Bracket game, so if you wanna set it up feel free! :wink

Davidson might give some of the bigger teams a scare in the tourney. That Stephen Curry is a badman, I reckon he'll make the NBA.

Yeah I'm not sure I'd want them in my bracket, with only those few losses against some really hard sides.

#12 Butler (another very scary mid-major) wins the Horizon League.

West Kentucky win the Sun Belt - South Alabama also had a good season and that may be BAD news for more bubble teams, as they have a great RPI and their 6 losses came mostly against the Big Boys.

Oral Roberts, without 2 injured stars, win the Summit League.

Portland State make the NCAA Tournament for the 1st time in their history, as they win the Big Sky Tourney.

Mount St. Mary's wins the North East Conference Tourney to claim their berth.

Apologies to 33, but Syracuse are definitely out of the Big Dance, after blowing a lead against Villanova in the 1st round of the Big East Tourney, rolling over to let 'Nova tickle their tummies in the last 5 minutes.

Better start scouting those NIT teams 33! :wink

Never really expected to make it to the Dance, just not good enough this year, nowhere near consistent enough. It's a bit of a transitional time for the Orangemen.

Anyway I'll be right behind Davidson this year, cheering on ex-Magic star Andrew Lovedale, not to mention Vandy as well, with Alan Metcalfe.

At least you can console yourself with the fact that you're not going to be the only ones. Two-Time defending National Champion's Florida are likely to miss out too, after falling to Alabama in the 1st round of the SEC Tourney last night. Most 'Bracketeers' had been saying the Gators had to make it to at least the SEC semis to have any chance of winning a Bubble bid.

The Big East may have as many as 7 teams in the Dance, after a series of shocks in the Big East QFs lat night. West Virginia beat UCONN, Pitt beat Louisville and Marquette KO'd Notre Dame. The only top-25 ranked team left in the Big East Tourney is Georgetown after they trounced Villanova without Roy Hibbert scoring a single point. They shot a team record 17 3ptrs in the process!

Losing Eric Devendorf for most of the season didn't help either I suppose.

Oh and as for Donte Greene talking about being a 'one and done' College player, he must be out of his mind, no NBA team is even going to look at him in the 2nd round, never mind the 1st.

Davidson are one of my pick's, alongside Butler, as the mid-major most likely to get into at least the Elite 8, like George Mason 2 years ago.

Noel, you may think I'm mad, but I'm actually quoting Jay Bilas from ESPN in his commentary on the Syracuse-Villanova game on Wednesday night. He thinks Greene won't be drafted and end up like Randolph Morris at Kentucky 2 years ago. :dunno

Might have been ugly but restricting any team to 34 points is pretty amazing!!!
