02 nov DEBUT DELIGHT So here it goes my first ever badaball blog…… I would first like to thank all at badaball for letting me be a blogger. Now on to who I am/about me etc….. Well most of you will know me as ‘luker-t’ and of course my proper name is Luke but Luker-t seems to be my new adopted name and what everyone calls me . I’ve been a basketball fan since I was about 10 so that is about 13 odd years now.I used to love the days of NBA on Channel 4.…. good Sunday morning TV followed by Italia football, goodness that seems like donkeys years ago. My first taste of UK BALL was back in 96 when my dad got given some freebies to see the LONDON TOWERS so of we went to Wembley Arena (the good old big time BBL days). I enjoyed it from the start and the atmosphere was great and since that day I was hooked on UK ball and followed the Towers slightly but I was mainly an all round Uk ball fan,. I was a Solent fan for a few seasons from 97-2002. There was some great ball there and I remember the title winning season when there were 900 fans packed in to the Fleming Park Hall. I paid a visit to Fleming Park last year (2006) after a few years of not really attending games due to work etc ,but the way the club was run and the enjoyment was poor with only about 200 people watching . So I then thought to myself that I should check out HEAT and see how BBL is these days without TV SPONSOR ETC. And 9th December 2006 was my first Heat game and my first taste of the BBL since 2000 . I was hooked from the start and from that day forward im glad I found the HEAT. What a great club and a good friendly fan base and here’s to many many more great years in BBL Good luck to the team in ULEB and look out peeps for my BERLIN blog Thanks for reading (if any of you are) LuKeR-T 14 NOV HOOPS ON ICE Just a quick blog update and small bit on uleb so far. Well to start HOW shocked was I to hear about one of the greatest ever players to put on a BBL shirt? Mr B .GET WELL SOON B.all the best mate. Now on to my blog and iI will keep it short. NO TV coverage of HEAT but only 1 or 2mins on local TV which is OK and better than nothing but very shocking that no TV station can be bothered to show the game. Even delayed highlights maybe as there are over 300 channels based in England. But I was impressed with the radio coverage from southern counties SO hats off to them. AND WOW the specky ice arena turning into a great Ball venue WELL DONE all round to everyone involved with that! It was also a great game and good to see badalona and some future NBA stars maybe. Mike Martin doing an impressive Dunk which after speaking to him in the bar afterwards, he was very Happy about it and so he should be. Watching the game I can see that a BBL team really does not need to be in Europe but still good experience for everyone involved with the Heat. Ill be in Berlin next week and its going to be great I’m looking forward to it and will get there (depends on SleasyJet ) Monday afternoon to check everything out. I will be keeping a small diary to help with my big Berlin blog coming possibly Next week. So thanks for reading and look out for my Berlin experience coming soon Luker-T 22 NOV TAGEBUSCH BERLIN DAY ONE So I set off for Gatwick @ 4:45am after double checking I had my money, passport etc and the all important Heat shirt and England flag. After a 1hr and 35min journey, I got to Gatwick , then checked in all ok nice and easy. Then on to the wonderful experience of BAA security. As always takes along time ,but as Brits I guess we are used to queues. Now into departures and it was very busy but it was Monday and very early being sat in Gatwick airport for 2hrs isn’t the most exciting thing but its worth it as I know I would be in good old Berlin soon .Boarded the plane @ 08:30am but was scheduled for 07:50 but as always an easy jet flight is delayed. Flight was ok nice smooth flight and plane was ok good old bargain flights. Arrived in Berlin airport about 11:20am ish Very nice clean airport. Then a short walk to the train and only cost £1:50 great value for a 40min train journey, train service as brill trains run every 3-7mins and never delayed unlike SWT. Got to Hotel about 1pm ish surrounding area a bit basic but its ok does the job ,small shopping mall few take-aways ,main city only short tram ride away. DAY TWO Got up at 9am ,went for breaky . Then after the usual jargon shower and all that, I took the tram to the city great service trams every 3-5mins. A very nice city with some amazing buildings ,and a city with a lot of history ,one of the best cities I’ve ever been to. 2 days is not enough to get the best of it.I stopped and looked at a Wall memorial one of many and was quite moving and shocking to read about people who risked and lost thir lives to try and escape East Germany, Thank goodness its all over these days. Now onto the Arena I got there about 6:20pm and what an amazing venue. It is impressive outside as its about 3 times bigger than the metro arena .Inside the arena I was amazed how great it looked with some great bar service too, I took my seat along with the other heat faithful and was sat 4 rows from the court. There was about 20 of us fans and 6 fans came over from Derby to see the team so credit to them. The team seemed happy out there and looked as if they were enjoying being here. AND a BIG hats off to the German fans Holding up a “get well soon Brian dux” banner. It was a nice touch by them and every one of us heat fans had a tear or or two. Just seeing how much B’s accident has reached the basketball world. It is amazing and for the fans to that a very big appreciation to them all.Very loud and proud fans too 10 people with huge drums making constant noise. Us heat fans got into it too ,chanting and singing and even converted football terrace chants into heat ones - amazing. Was a great experience and the team played outstanding .An all round BIG 10 out of 10 for the whole experience in the arena. DAY THREE Checked out at midday, I was invited to tag along with the fans from Derby to visit the olympiastadion .Got there about 1:30pm what a great stadium and how much better it looks than that waste of money Wembley, and only costing 4 euros to to get in.The walk around was great value and I recommend it to everyone football fans or not as the stadium has a lot of history not just sports. Then after that it was time to jump on the tube and train and make my way back to the airport.Overall Berlin was amazing and visit again soon! Vielen Dank für die Lesung LuKeR-T 05 DEC ONE YEAR ON So I’ve been a Heat fan for one year and a lot of change has certainly gone on at the Heat since my first game on the 9th December 2006 . Heat have secured a major name sponsor (ok at present it seems its no more), but Heat have also got another big sponsor now and it seems things can only get better for the HEAT. And of course that “Mickey-Mouse” kind of TV deal that BBL had set up, and okay, I was looking forward to it all but I kind of had doubts about some unknown small random TV company promising 30 odd live games year and big bucks. But after two live games and what a lot of us BBL fans feared, the deal was scrapped and MKTV folded . I still think BBL has a long way to go and needs a major shake up before things can get better. If netball, ice hockey and other small sports can secure major league sponsors etc BBL can if they pull their fingers out SOON. Thank goodness teams like Heat are around to make the BBL a better place as they show things can be done the correct way if minds are put to the tasks. I also have to mention that Heat winning three trophies in its 2nd/3rd season is great going. Brings the press in too, which is what BBL needs more often - it shouldn’t take teams winning trophies for local media to take note. And of course in the past year Heat have gone and jumped a massive step far too early of course. I’m on about ULEB. I know I’m not the only fan who thinks its kinda pointless ,its bit like a kid riding a massive bicycle for the 1st time without stabilisers of course the kid is going to fall off , logic sense really, and after watching few games so far, I can just see that heat are a massive long shot away from the big boys of Europe . Big respect to the players as of course its not their choice to be in ULEB and they play their butts off and do a great job too. And I as a Heat fan would never have thought I’d be travelling overseas to watch the guys play so that’s kinda cool and a great experience. The saying things can only get better is kinda suitable but things are already better at Heat (but the uleb idea was kinda stupid ). I JUST hope that this time next year BBL have finally managed a decent TV deal decent league sponsor, (wishful thinking I know and after all it is xmas time maybe ive drunk too much booze already), and hopefully Heat have added some more trophies etc and who knows, BBL teams may go back to the days of major sponsors not just unknown ones. Thanks again for reading And merry xmas and happy new year to all you badaballers |

07 jan new year - but any better? Firstly I would like to wish all badaballers a happy new year. Ok this blog is set in 2008 but I’m gonna start back in December 07 and the venue of the London Caps - well what can I say? When I first got there it looked ok from outside but then you get inside and OMG what a complete shambles! An awful venue not good enough for EBL2 and in my view, the sports hall lacks everything. 3 scoreboard attempts and still none worked properly, a one sided 500-600ish seating and on a Saturday night only about 50-70 Londoners turning up to watch the only supposing pro basketball team! SHOCKING and cant believe BBL let teams into the league with poor facilities and a team that only just manages to compete. Now on to one of the biggest counties in England and 2008 the date Friday 4th Jan. And I have to add the EIS is an outstanding sports venue and the country needs more venues like that to bring in more great British sports stars. So on to my point - the venue looks like it holds around 1000-1200 , and against a big named team Guildford the turn out for the sharks was terrible around 400 if that ,if it wasn’t for teams like heat, eagles, rocks and raiders with there 700-2000 attendances in my view BBL would be just a glorified version of EBL1 but the difference being more players getting paid. Things need to change majorly this year for things in BBL to get better ,ok we all want sponsor TV deal etc BUT attendances need to rise ,certain franchises need better teams and venues. Personally I think there’s 2 teams in BBL this season that should fold and save embarrassment ,BBL HQ really do seem to be making fools out of them selves at times with certain franchises they let in. Like I said thank goodness for great run franchises like the heat, eagles etc. Lets just hope that this year brings in more fans for certain teams and also BBL get a decent franchise in the capital city. I’m not saying BBL is a bad league far from it, I’m one of the most biased when it comes to BBL - I’d watch Heat in a BBL game over any other b-ball league. But I just feel that certain teams are working hard and nothing is happening else where I like many long time fans want BBL to go back to its good days when there was more competitive games and less walkovers, and big crowds, and when there were restrictions on venue size and facilities, hopefully BBL may see a sense in that rule and bring it back. Anyways moaning over for this time and just quick thought has there ever been a player in bbl history to have a web group dedicated to them? I’m sure many of you are aware of CLPs face book group called “GIVE CHI MORE MINUTES” ,worth checking out and now has 50 members and counting Good to see that there are dedicated fans out there and I know chi is pleased with the support he gets - lets hope he is one day this season given more game time as players like him are needed for the future and for British basketballs sake. We can’t just rely on US based players - after all it is the British Basketball League. One last thing to say and that is how great and fun the B-DUX#6 game was, an amazing and emotional night. Still thinking of you and wishing a speedy recovery as always DuX Until next time |

18 jan ULEB DREAM OR NIGHTMARE? So its only been a few weeks since my last BLOG as I usually do one every 4 weeks or so, but thought I’d do one now . Reason? That’s Heats ULEB experience (well that’s what some say)! OK as posted on one of my other blogs and on the whatsbev.com forum, I enjoyed the Berlin trip etc and I would never have thought I’d watch b-ball overseas (well except maybe NBA soon hopefully). BUT and I know I will get slated by some people at the Heat as I have already……. (Tuesday in fact after posting on forum) In my opinion, ULEB is pointless and a waste of money. There I am thinking us b-ball fans (paying ones in fact) are entitled to an opinion. BUT maybe not. I’m not mentioning the persons name but he will know who he is and I’m not slating him as I for one respect him but like I said, everyone is or should be entitled to an opinion. But after being told by a couple of people in the know the sum of ££ its cost the club for ULEB - it has no sense to it so why did the big wigs @ heat enter the competition in the first place? OK maybe the team has learned? And have got better but 0 and10 kinda must have some impact on the players emotions and minds? Maybe not? . And yes the game @ home against ALBA and Siauliai was good atmosphere and close but we still cant keep up with them. Some of us concerned fans spoke on Tuesday after the game about us in ULEB and how it could and maybe will affect the future of the club . I for one hope it doesn’t but like I said above the costing must have a major effect on the clubs future. The fact heat didn’t use the ice rink for Siauliai game was down to saving ££. And there are Heat fans that have said its great for the club blah, blah, blah…. BUT do they have any passion for the club realising that the past clubs have died due to Europe, and they must know that funding such b-ball is majorly above BBL ? So I for one will continue to go by my words back in sep/oct when it was first announced that we sadly entering ULEB. And yes I’m more than happy to take stick from people at Heat for my opinion (you read that its an opinion me=paying fan=entitled to one=passion for the club.) And maybe many disagree with me but I can run out of ink if I was using any and name all of the fans that don’t agree with ULEB. One fan said to me (he’s a share holder ) that he has same thoughts and hopes like me that Heat remain around next season and more also note this Heat shareholders had no say or vote or anything on heats ULEB entry so do they have any say at all know?? Lets look at Heats ULEB experience all be it my through my own eyes. - Have heat gained experience -YES-at a major cost - Have heat proved them selves in ULEB- maybe - Will heat in ULEB help with success in the BBL? - MAYBE but surely team should do well anyway? And also at a lesser cost - Have I enjoyed it? Yes and no. BERLIN away yes but games in ice rink NO. Berlin home game and Siauliai atmosphere yes, financially it has been expensive for me. - Heats future - who knows? In my view 65% chance of being around next year - Have team done well? - yes BUT the bench did not get anyway near enough time (one thing other uleb teams do and that’s play there bench. Overall marks out of 10 Heats decision to enter 4.5-10 Heats performance 7-10 Heats home support 3-10 Heats home support for Berlin game 11-10 Heats away support at BERLIN 11-10 BERLINS FANS 11-10 Value for money 6-10 Heat game night crew (helpers etc contributing to the great game night 11-10 So like I said near the start of my blog, I’m more than happy to take stick for my views, if I can write my views etc I’m man enough to accept and take it. OH and also I’m on a what’s bev strike until I know Heats future is safe due to the fact anything I seem to post on my views on Heat in ULEB etc seems to backfire. (im sure my what’s bev strike will make many people happy) Till next time Luker-t |
