Not sure how many of Worcester's BBL team are playing BUSA this season

Still a great result for Leeds Met though

result followed up by a slightly closer victory over loughborough.

Leeds Met 113 - 38 loughborough

with all due credit to luff. I feel they may be suffering from 4th year syndrome. i think all their starters graduated leaving them somewhat depleted! :worry2

Leeds Mat are investing heavily in all sports right now and I expect them to seriously challenge for the BUSA title and win Div 3- the rest of the league can't compete

I know from talking to Matt Newby that in time they want BBL basketball, but just hope they drag local ball in Leeds with them rather than simply recruit

Because at the moment it's arguably the most under-achieving city in England when you think about it's size and current availablity

£600,000 over 4 years can get you either:

a) a lot of foreign players coming in on good scholarships or other incentives,

b) a real ground up development of grass roots basketball for the city and the surrounding region.

I guess you can see the route that LMC are taking.

This is not to knock the job that Matt Newby is doing there- full credit to him, but I wonder how Leeds Met would fare without that sort of financial backup.

Leeds Met players and coaches are involved in coaching in schools all over Yorkshire, there is talk of a feeder academy at one of them in leeds too. I know it seems as though games are being bought at the moment by using good foreign players but that is not the long term goal I am sure.

Technically Leeds Met are doing both

Leeds Met are now into year 2/3? of their subsidised programme I guess, with the successful season last year, and what looks like what could be another good season coming up.

Any feeder academy in Leeds would need to be up and running by the summer at the latest for there to be any level of continuity into the LMU setup before the money runs out- "talk" if thats all it is at this stage, of a feeder academy is coming a bit late. Maybe better links with York perhaps?

Matt will be aware of the financial hardships associated with Cardinal Newmans basketball academy in Preston and what is involved financially to keep an active academy programme going.

"Technically" LMU is a house built on sand- but they're in good company; a lot of organisations in the lower leagues are laying out money in a bid to improve results- not everybodys model will prove to be workable, that's all.

Who knows- Mr Carnegie might just be waiting to sign the next cheque, eh?
