When i first foolishly decided to write a Riderstastic blog for Bada it was going to be a "hilarious" "tongue-in-cheek" piece about the lack of activity in the Riders camp that traditionally covers the months May to September.

Unfortunately i clear off from the world of basketball for two weeks (birthday, holiday, drinking and other "stuff") to find a sense of deja vu surrounding my beloved team!

Has the Leicester Mercury printed an old article for a laugh or has the excrement hit the circular ventilation equipment for the second time this year?

Sadly the latter turns out to be true and i fear the worst for the season ahead as where is the dosh going to come from to save us?

A fans meeting is called three days before the BBL's deadline to try and save the club which leaves me feeling less than optimistic but I duly attend.

The Crow unfortunately cries off sick so I ended up getting paranoid that i'd walk in to an empty room.

Thankfully this is far from the truth as about seventy familiar faces are already gathered.

Ideas are swapped energetically between the masses and Messrs Steptoe,Routledge & Ellis.

It started to become clear that we needed to get away from the idea of the Riders being a pleasant diversion on a Saturday night before the pub and instead make it more part of your lifestyle (this had already happened several years ago to some of us!).

Unfortunately i couldnt think of any immediate ways to help out so instead listened to what others had to offer.

The inevitable season ticket applications were dished out (why didnt this happen earlier instead of having to risk the wrath of my bank manager when i overdraw again?) with the idea of getting 150 by Friday seeming a little ambitious but when needs must us fans can be relied on to get that dusty cheque book out.

Friday morning at work brings the news that Jelsons have agreed to sponsor us so we can get on with the real business of putting a team on court.

The Crow takes this news as an opportunity to make a terrible joke about having a guaranteed full house on opening night!

Hopefully we can put together a team that can at least compete without necessarily winning trophies as a mediocre season would only scare off more floating voters.I see this season as being one of transition with hopefully some lessons now learned in what we need to do to keep the Riders viable as a BBL franchise.

Hopefully in a few years time DMU will have a new shiny sports hall which will enable the club to make money on a game night instead of relying on those crappy vending machines for hungry punters.

Me? I'm looking forward to watching the new teams especially those lovable Scousers when the Tigers come visiting and also to making ill-advised away trips to Glasgow & Plymouth on my lonesome again!

Bring on the new season!

Come on Riders!
EuroLeague Women because women's basketball is the most important thing in life after family and good health!
