Right can we clear this up here?

Can he play for GB or not?

There was no GB National Team before, and it was impossible to choose between USA and GB, know there is a GB Team, and he can choose?

Please can somebody clear this up?

Regulation H – Rules Governing Players, Coaches, Support Officials, and Players’ Agents

(...)

H.2.3.2.1 Any player with two legal nationalities or more, by birth or by naturalisation, may choose at any age the national team for which he wishes to play. Any such choice must be made in a written declaration to FIBA. This provision applies also to any player having acquired legal nationality by birth, or having the right to acquire a second nationality at birth, but who does not lay claim to this right until a given time in the future.

H.2.3.2.2 However, if a player having two (2) or more nationalities is summoned by a national member federation after reaching the age of eighteen ( 18 ), he is obliged to choose for which national team he wishes to play. If he has declined the summons, the player may choose only the nationality/nationalities of the other country/countries, unless he declares, in writing, within fifteen (15) days of receiving the summons that he has chosen the country that summoned him first.

H.2.3.2.3 Any player having played in a main official competition of FIBA for a national team for which he is eligible is considered as having chosen the national team of that country.

Yes he can.

Do I want him to, no.

Reason, he is not committed and would only play for self gain and furtherance of himself.

That for me is selling your soul and sends out the wrong message.

If he is eligible I don't think he will play.

What I am looking for is the answer why he can play? People have said yes he is eligible but according to the rules it says that he cant, why is he eligible to play?

Has anybody got a link or anything?

The complication is that the event he played was the Pan Am games, which isn't the FIBA Continental Championship

I don't think he'll play til the last minute and tend to agree with Backboard re whether I want him to

I'd be more interested in getting Keleena and Pops as they would be more committed to the GB programme.

Hit the nail on the head! These 2 are the icing on the cake, who hopefully can take us to the next level.

Those two would be great for team GB.

Ben would, in my opinion try to take too much on his shoulders and the team would lose the chemistry that they have now and that seems to be working well for them.

I think Pan Am games are definitely a Fiba competition now, the past editions are listed on Fiba americas web site. The only fact is that they don't list the edition where Gordon played. I think Gordon isn't eligible to play in GB National Team, but that's only my opinion. If someone can ask to any GB representative and then answer it would be pretty good..

The Pan Am games don't count because they don't give points towards the FIBA Ranking List

However IMHO Gordon won't play until at least 2010 because he still thinks Team USA will pick him for the 2010 World Championships

If thsi would be true, neither playing in a youth event would count...

I don't think so..

I obtained confirmation of this from Ian Whittell this morning- apparently both FIBA and USA Basketball say it's true

Guys, just accept, currently Gordon can play, it has been well documented over many years and that he don't want to currently which has also been well documented at the same time.

Well I have been talking to somebody on another board about this and neither of us have any links or sources to settle the Gordon questions.

Really was looking for a confirmed source stating the Gordon situation clearly so we know where we stand.
