Julius Joseph speaks about quitting GB

SCOTTISH ROCKS star Julius Joseph has lifted the lid on his sensational departure from the Great Britain squad claiming that: “They didn’t need me”.
The British team coached by Chris Finch last week won promotion to the European A League.
In a series of dazzling displays against Holland, Belarus, Albania, Slovakia and Switzerland, the Brits ensured the nation’s team would indeed compete in the 2012 Olympics in London.
However, one man who didn’t bask in the glory was Rocks forward Joseph who walked out on the squad days before last month’s crunch clash against Holland in Edinburgh.
The Londoner had missed a couple of games due to his father being taken ill but other factors were happening which led to his departure.
He said: “The situation was that I felt I wasn’t part of the team and that my services were not exactly required.
“They had their squad and they had their rotation policy and I just didn’t feel a part of it.
“I wasn’t too happy at what was going on. The situation didn’t do my game any good and my confidence was affected.
“So, I made the decision that was best for me at the end of the day and that was to withdraw from the squad.
“My leaving didn’t really do them any harm as they qualified quite comfortably for the European A Division so I wasn’t really needed.”
However, a look at the British squad which includes Scots ace Robert Archibald and Chicago Bulls star Luol Deng – whose sharp-shooting effectively sealed promotion – does explain why Finch left JJ on the fringes.
When asked if in hindsight his decision was rash his response was a firm: “No comment.”

JJ has to say that

It was his choice to go and play in the Midnight Madness final knowing the date of their trip to LA clashed with GB

IMHO GB will never pick him again, at least not while Finch is in charge
Feel the (Huddersfield)Heat !

His performances in Crawley were poor at best. I respect the man for being honest.

If he was being honest would he not have told Finch the truth?

What a load of B*ll*cks! You made a commitment Julius, you signed up to the team and then cos you wern't getting the minutes you wanted you walk out?!

Can you imagine this in any other sport - Would and England Football or Rugby player walk out of the world cup becuase he wasn't being picked for every game?

The man is a joke. What puzzles me is why he was there in the first place - he is nowhere near good enough to have been on that squad!

Chris Sutton - too important to play for England B.

But anyway, I expect one day JJ will look back at all of this, and wonder what might have been. He might have got himself a decent contract in Europe out of it, something might have changed and he might have forced his way into the rotation - it would only have taken one injury. Teams need to be ten deep, he was in that ten. I just think it's a shame - but it's more of a shame for him, that GB.

if you dont understand the circumstances you really shouldnt judge his decision, from the outside looking in it does look as though he just quit on england but only the squad know what was really going on.

Carragher quit the england football team because he was not playing regularly.

Also bentley decided he didnt want to go to the u21 euro tourney.

So it does happen in other sports.

Those comparisons are at best rubbish.

He said he would be there and then changed his mind because he was clearly not good enough. The people you quoted did not walk out on there teams and lie about the reasons.

Against an exceptionally poor Irish team he was owned. The other guys kept passing to him even though he laid up brick after brick. The problem is simple, he is not quick enough to play the two or three.

I never ever want to grow up, would you? I'm Hungry Mama.

Dont want to bash JJ for the sake of it but.....

but never looked fit enough for two years. Know he has had injury problems

I do think it is a shame though when a streetball comp gets chosen ahead of representing your country

whether you think you sre good enough or not - if you get picked and commit, you give your all and do your bit

surely

That's BS. You're saying that only someone on the Britain (the fact you think he was playing for England shows your level of knowledge) team can comment ?

Bentley has been roundly criticised for his decision. Most people do seem to understand Carragher's decision, but then he didn't walk out midway through a tournament....

I think that it is fair to say that he quit when he realised that his skills were not appropriate for that level of game.
MVP of final in BBL where he can use his physique to overpower the oppostion is very different ti international basketball where his lack of sophistication would be exposed.
Good BBL player though, hope he has a good season.
Plus if he were that good he would be in europe
