Roger Huggins, the 40-year-old forward, has retired after helping Great Britain to reach Europe’s A Division for the first time. But Chris Finch, the Britain coach, wants the Londoner on his backroom staff for next summer’s European Championship qualifying campaign. With Luol Deng, the Chicago Bulls star, pulling the strings, Britain gained promotion after winning their six games by an average of more than 25 points and will be competing for a place in the 2009 European Championship finals next August and September.

Thanks for all your efforts Roger.

A class act and a true Veteran. Also one of the funniest guys you'll ever meet. Great to know he'll still be around as a coach etc next year!

Not that surprised. From what I saw of him he was bloody good for a 40 year old, but then again, he's a 40 year old!

Fantastic player and a gentlemen too. Helped my team to a league and cup double in 1995 and his jersey remains the only retired number in Sheffield.

Just wanted to echo everyone elses thoughts about Huggy. A class act and the first real star when i first started watching the Sharks and Basketball in this country.

He has made a solid living from the game all over Europe playing in some top leagues and also made a massive mark on the game in this country. I will never forget his play when the Sharks won the league and cup double in our first season and he was named the MVP of the entire league.

His play and contribution for England/GB also has been exemplary. Hopefully Chris Finch and GB Basketball can keep him involved in some capacity. Fitting that his last game in this country was at Ponds Forge in front of many of the Sheffield fans who idolised him back in the day.

Thanks and good luck Roger.
