As an avid fan of the game at all levels i must comment on the poor standard of referees at BUSA premier division games. as this tournament is funded by universities it would make sense for BUSA to centrally appoint referees and end this pot luck anyone with a whistle will do madness. I went to the london met vs LSBU game straight after work as i had been invited by one of the players to watch what i hoped would be a top game. The referee arrived 20 mins late and so tip off which was due for 7pm had to be delayed. I wont even go into details about how many times he left the courtside and on one occassion held up the start of a quarter and returned totally unaware that his belt was undone untill reminded to belt up by the crowd. In terms of refereeing what proceeded was bordering on the dangerous as referees afforded no protection to players on either team. in the end players tried to negotiate the game in spite of two referees who i have never encountered at any national league game in my 20 years of supporting basketball. I am hopeful that after such a top match was ruined by at best inept and incompetent officials BUSA will move to centrally apointing referees and hopefully vetting them before hand. On another issue i must say that LondonMet coach Ayinla seems to be very childish and was more interested in having a go at the LSBU coach rather than concentrating on coaching a very good bunch of players who on this showing have got a good chance to win the BUSA championships this year. i wsa informed bu a London Met fan that when they get to BUSA Mr Ayinla plays himself in a bid to engineer wins but surely this is university sports and i would be interested to know what he studies at the Uni to allow him to do this. all in all a game that could have been good was somewhat spoilt by the lack of referees. I had to vacate building at end of the 3rd quarter but herad that a few players were fouled out which did not surprise me as referees had no control of the match , i am more surprised no one got seriously injured. keep supporting london basketball people. |
