UNFORGIVEN

Well, ladies and gents, it's that time again...we are now heading toward another set of single-branded events before we finally reach the big Survivor Series PPV in November.  First one up is Unforgiven...

CMV1's card:

-WWE Champion Edge vs. John Cena in a TLC Match- This has been rumored and it fits Edge's character to a T.  Obviously, it could be a helluva match based on what we've seen each do in gimmick matches in the past.  I expect 4-stars...I demand 4-stars...

-DX vs. The McMahons II in a Lumberjack Match- The feud obviously isn't over...and the main weapons that the McMahons would employ are going to be tied up elsewhere (or so it seems).  Thus, I would assume the best way to make this look competitive is to have the McMahons get some help in the form of hand-picked Lumberjacks...

-Carlito vs. Randy Orton- If this match doesn't happen, I'd be upset.  Here we have a guy in Carlito that is looking to break out.  Putting him against Orton is a test...for both.  I want to see what kind of match that they can have.  I have high hopes based on the work that Carlito has done in the past.  I have to wonder what they plan on doing w/ Carlito, though...is this the start of his push or just some random thrown together feud?

-Kane vs. Umaga- Finally, Umaga gets a feud.  Is it going to be good?  I don't think so, but I at least like the fact that Umaga is in a feud.  It will help Umaga's credibility even further to defeat a monster like Kane.  Question is...do they really think Umaga is a hot enough commodity to bank on in the future?  If not, why keep giving him big wins?

-Women's Champ Lita vs. Trish Stratus- Rumor has it that Trish may be gone after this PPV in her hometown...If that's the case, send her off nicely with a great women's title match and have Lita build heat by destroying her after the match and explaining her abscense.

-Intercontinental Champion Johnny Nitro vs. Jeff Hardy- This is a match that would be a rapid paced, hot as hell fire and brimstone opening contest for the PPV.  I can already anticipate having a hard time keeping up with it.  Frankly, who else would Nitro defend against?  This is a great opportunity for both to get used and put on some athletic matches...

-Tag Team Champions the Spirit Squad vs. The Highlanders- You know it's coming...the envitable title switch that'll end the Squad and make the Scots the useless tag champions....

No need for me to post a card, cause I think Chad's nailed it here. That card is pretty much exactly what I'm expecting to see.

TLC match should be good. But I don't want to see Cena win it. Edge is doing too good a job to give it back to Cena. Edge has more folks to defend the title against as well, Carlito, Kane, Jefff Hardy, then Triple H. Who would Cena go against? Orton would be good, but who else? Umaga, that's who. And that's no good.

Nitro/Hardy and Carlito/Orton would both be really good matches.

DX/McMahons II will be entertaining.

Trish vs. Lita could be really good. I'd like to see Victoria and Mickie get throwed in there too though.

Highlanders/Spirit Squad could be good as well, especially if the Highlanders win the titles.

Good card overall.

That card is probably about right.

I'm not sure we'll simply have a Tag Team Lumberjack Match with D-X and the McMahon's though. I know I can't exactly think of what they're going to do, but something tells me there may not even be a D-X/McMahon's II here.

Either way, you know D-X will be in action, so I think seven matches like Chad has above is about right. They did good to stick to that many at SummerSlam, though Stinger did wisely point out that if they'd taken out the Diva segment backstage and used some of the 15 minutes of airtime they had left when the show went off to go with it, they could've tacked on probably either a IC or U.S. title match.

Chad, I hope your right about Trish Startus' match. She deserves one last, decent title match before she leaves. Once Stratus is gone, the Diva division will be even more boring. :speechless:

I'm a little tired of the DX/McMahons feud but I do like your idea of a Lumber Jack match.

The Tag match looks boring, I've seen this site about 15 times, but we all know it's going to happen. Oh well, whatever breaks up the Squad, I guess, I'm 100% behind.

Carlito vs. Orton, now this is something I'll be looking forward too. It seems like a good mix.

The IC title match also looks awesome. Whatever title match that includes Jeff Hardy is fine by me.

As for Cena and Edge, I am tired of John. I hope this is his last world title (RAW) match for a long time. Put him in SD, make him a heel and feud with Undertaker or Lashley. JUST LAY OFF CENA!

JUST LAY OFF CENA!

YOu know...we can always hope, but until all the 8 year olds stop buying his CD's,shirts, and other shit it wont happen. Cena Ruins RAW for me.

Anyway Chad's card is exactly what I expect.

We've all discussed this before, but since you're new here, let me give you the Cliff's Notes version of this:

He'd be an awesome heel on RAW. Live TV. Looser FCC restrictions, etc. Have him go back to FULL Dr. of Thuganomics, hardcore, you name it. Let him cut loose.

At this point, the heel side of RAW is actually pretty weak once you go past Edge.

The irony here would be, of course, the fans would start cheering that shit from here to eternity, but if all this good Edge vs. Cena stuff simply leads back to him getting the belt and sitting on it for God knows how long until they get someone else built up enough...I just can't stand that idea. Drives me nuts.

Wow, I can't wait for Cena to defend the title against Umaga.

This might be the best single brand PPV put together in a while...granted the McMahon's are involved...but top to bottom it's a pretty damn good card. I am marking out for Carlito vs. Orton and the TLC match, cause Edge is money in those matches and Cena gets a bad rap...(IMO)

Besides the big 4 this will be one of the few ppv's I am going to be willing to spend $40 on

Agreed on all points except some of Cena's bad rap has been earned.

I'm pretty much with Animal on how this may very well be the best looking single brand PPV card...(although in my opinion the best single brand event ever, and one of the best PPVs period in recent memory, was Vengeance 2005, which had the luxury of basically being a duel brand event due to the draft lottery)...

Carlito-Orton looks rock solid to me and I expect a 3-star match. Orton worked so well with Mysterio...Carlito wrestles much better as a babyface. My expectations may be too high...

TLC, HIAC, Women's title all looked good to me, as does the IC title match...

The other two matches don't really excite me, but they aren't complete eye sores either...

Should be at the very least an above average event..

Shows me the summer doldrums are starting to get shaken off. Finally.

This is about as solid of a single brand PPV I've seen in a while, at least on paper.

Like I said in the prediction thread: I think there's barely a snowball's chance in hell of that spoiler NOT happening.

I'd bank on it.

Would never expect it, but it'd be nice to see some changes once in a while.

Who's Cena going to feud with next? Will the Edge feud continue? Or will it be Umaga? Because unless Orton wins tomorrow, I'll doubt he'll feud with Cena anytime soon.

Here's what PWInsider listed as possible reasons for moving him or not.

- Switching Cena to Smackdown after September 17th will give the Friday night brand some much needed "star power" as they debut on the new CW Network.

- If Cena is going to miss shows due to upcoming publicity appearances and press tours for The Marine, WWE would probably favor having a "Smackdown guy" miss some shows than a "Raw guy".

- On the flip side, WWE may want Cena to defeat Edge at Unforgiven, so that when he goes on the aforementioned publicity appearances, he is billed as "WWE Champion John Cena, star of The Marine".

- Even if Cena was switched to Smackdown, WWE could easily flip him back to Raw whenever they wanted, since they've done it with several wrestlers in the past (most recently Super Crazy on Monday).

Me neither...

The only way I'd consider it is if it was part of a storyline that'll keep going until Survivor Series. That way, if Cena goes to SD, it's only for the short term...

Personally, I'm beginning to wonder if maybe the WWE would consider an Austin-Cena feud for Wrestlemania. Fuck Hogan...Cena vs. Austin is a huge match involving a current star...

I wanted Cena vs. Rock, but obviously that's not going to happen.

Cena vs. Austin would be huge, but there's one problem: I don't think Austin's health will allow for it. I think that's probably gone as well.

I dunno...He's said he's got another match left in him...It's been a long time since he's wrestled...

Cena vs. Austin seems to be plausible, especially for Mania...They need SOMETHING to make people want to pack 80,000 strong into a football stadium...

Yo...I just thought of something and tell me if someone already thought of this...

What if, tonight, during the TLC match, Teddy Long sends some SD wrestlers to interfere and allow Edge to win the match. The reason? Simple: He wants more star power on Smackdown! That would make a lot of sense wouldn't it? I mean, that's a good reason for Cena to move to SD, as it wouldn't have to necessarily be a long-term thing...

Cena could essentially ignite the next Raw-SD feud...

Any thoughts?

They'd be wise to make a story move like this.

So of course it won't happen. Nice idea, though.

Johnny Nitro defeats Jeff Hardy

I figured a Hardy wouldn't get a real push. I'm not even sure why I made him in my predictions on the last page. Wishful thinking, I guess...

This little tidbit about Long being at the show tonight kind of gets my attention...

Nitro vs. Hardy

Quote:

- We are live at the Air Canada Center in Toronto.

- Show kicked off with a video package running down the big matches set for tonight.

- Johnny Nitro vs. Jeff Hardy for the WWE Intercontinental Title
Crowd was really into Hardy from the get go. After some early showmanship and back and forth action, Nitro gained control. Hardy fought back and went for an early Swanton but Nitro rolled out of the ring. Hardy responded with a baseball slide to the outside and did his spot where he walks the security railing and hit a flying clothesline off of it. The action returned to the ring where Nitro again took control of the match. Nitro locked on a version of the Indian Deathlock and then hit a shinbuster. He continued to work over the knee until Hardy fought back and hit the Whisper of the Wind which landed him a two count. Nitro tried to regain control with a top rope Hurricurana but Hardy held on to the ropes and Nitro went crashing down. Hardy followed by hitting the Swanton and going for the pin, but Nitro's foot was on the rope which prevented a three count. Hardy soon went for the Twist of Fate but Nitro reversed it into an ankle lock. Hardy fought to get to the ropes but Nitro pulled him back to the center. Hardy again fought to get to the ropes and this time made it. Nitro continued to work on Hardy's leg but Hardy fought back and sent Nitro into Melina who was on the ring apron. Hardy rolled up Nitro for a two count. Nitro fought back and went to the top rope to attempt another rana but Hardy caught him and powerbombed him to the mat. Melina got involved again though, nailing Hardy with her boot. This gave Nitro the opening he needed for the pin.
- Winner: Johnny Nitro

- Teddy Long was shown watching on from a luxury box.

- After the match, Jeff ran into Matt Hardy backstage. Matt consoled Jeff which brought along Lita who ridiculed both of them and said neither of them would be champions like her and Edge.

Kane vs. Umaga

Quote:

Armando Alejandro Estrada ran down Kane prior the match, saying Umaga was the only monster in WWE. Usual lumbering big-man brawl from the get go. Umaga clotheslined Kane over the top rope to the outside but Kane landed on his feet. They exchanged shots outside and Armando got too close to Kane which resulted in his jacket being ripped off. Umaga gained control with a legsweep on the outside. The action returned to the ring where Umaga maintained control until Armando called for the Spike. Kane punched out of it. Kane gained control with back-to-back clotheslines but was unable to finish off Umaga who caught a charging Kane and nailed him with a Samoan Drop. Umaga went to the second rope but missed a high risk maneuver attempt as Kane sat up. Kane followed up with a top rope clothesline and went for the Chokeslam. Umaga tried to nail Kane with the Spike but Kane blocked it. Kane grabbed hold of Umaga and suplexed him to the outside. Outside, Kane clotheslined Umaga into the crowd and the two brawled off. Both men got counted out.
- Winner: No Contest

- The two continued to brawl as the crowd booed the finish.

- Backstage, Mr. McMahon told Shane that he wanted to do a lot of the dirty work tonight in their match against DX. He wants to be the one to take them out.

The Highlanders vs. The Spirit Squad

Quote:

Crowd was somewhat quiet for this match after being loud for the first two bouts. Mikey & Kenny represented the Spirit Squad. Rory and Mikey started things off with Rory grabbing early control. Ramming Mikey into Robbie's head was good for a two count. Robbie came in and maintained control for the Highlanders. Rory returned and hit Mikey with a double axehandle. The two tagged each other in back and forth and maintained control even after Mikey tagged in Kenny. The Spirit Squad rebounded when Mikey pulled Robbie's hair but it didn't last long. The other Spirit Squad members got involved and attacked Robbie as Kenny distracted the ref. In the ring, Mikey landed a two count on Robbie. The Squad strung together some offense before Mikey missed a splash attempt off of Kenny's back into Robbie. Robbie went for a tag but the Spirit Squad pulled Rory off the apron. The Spirit Squad maintained control until Rory hit a flapjack on Mikey and threw Kenny on his teammates at ringside. The Highlanders went for the pin followed the Slingshot Gourdbuster but Kenny made the save. All four men started going at it at the same time. In the chaos, Johnny nailed Rory with a kick and Mikey followed that up with a facebuster for the win as Kenny held back Robbie.
- Winners: The Spirit Squad
