Actually, I'm sure Undertaker would do fine in a ladder match..... He's only ever been in one, back in 2002 with Jeff Hardy on RAW, so there's really no basis for him "sucking" in ladder matches........

In this case with Crim's joke, it just would have made little to no sense at all if he'd really been added to the ECW one......

Here's a cool movie of last year's Summer Slam, if anyone's interested. The quality may be poor on some computers.

WWE SummerSlam Opener:

SummerSlam opened up with a video package looking at the top matches on the card tonight. We’ll see D-Generation X take on the McMahon’s, King Booker defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Batista, and John Cena challenging for Edge’s WWE Championship where the title can change hands on a disqualification. The fireworks then went off in the arena for the start of the show as Michael Cole and John Bradshaw Layfield welcomed us to SummerSlam. We then go over to Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler, followed by Joey Styles and Tazz from ECW.

Referee: Charles Robinson
Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero

The music of Rey Mysterio hit in the arena as he made his way down to the ring, and he is set to face his former good friend, Chavo Guerrero, who is coming out of retirement for one night only to face Rey here tonight. Chavo believes that Rey has lived off of Eddie Guerrero and used his death to further his career, and Vicki Guerrero is in the middle of it all.

The start:

Rey attacked Chavo as he entered the ring and the two traded right hands. Rey nailed a back elbow knockdown but then Chavo picked the leg and then stomped at Rey. Chavo nailed an uppercut but then Rey fought back with forearms and then went for a springboard moonsault but Chavo caught him and then Rey reversed into an arm drag sending Chavo to the outside. Rey hit a baseball slide to take Chavo down and then went for a pescado but Chavo moved and Rey crashed to the floor. Chavo took Rey down on the outside with a suicide dive and then tossed him back into the ring. Chavo stomped away at Rey in the corner and then gave him some vicious uppercuts.

Mid-match notes:

Rey fought back with forearms and then a kick to the hamstring to take Chavo down. Rey with an up and under in the corner and charged at Chavo but Chavo reversed sending Rey head first into the top turnbuckle. Chavo nailed a back suplex and mouthed off at Rey saying Eddie was not Rey’s blood. Chavo punted Rey in the ribs as the fans started an “Eddie” chant. Chavo nailed more right hands in the corner and Rey bailed to the outside as his mask came loose. Chavo met Rey on the outside and sent him back into the ring with another kick to the ribs. Rey was sent to the apron and then Chavo hammered him head first into the turnbuckle. Chavo headed up top with Rey still on the apron. Rey fought him off and got up top with Chavo and both men went crashing face first to the mat. Both are up at the count of eight with Rey nailing a dropkick to the knee. Rey nailed a springboard cross body for two but then Chavo came back with an uppercut out of nowhere.

Chavo knocked Rey down and then Rey came back with a drop toe hold and a volley to the side of the head of Chavo for two. Chavo ate an elbow in the corner and then Rey started to climb the ropes but Chavo cut him off. Chavo then climbed up and went for a move but Rey elbowed him back down. Rey jumped off onto the shoulders of Chavo with a headscissors sending Chavo into the ropes. Rey then nailed the 619 and went for the senton but Chavo moved. Rey then jumped at Chavo again and nailed a huricanrana sending both men to the floor. Both men hammered at each other on the outside. Chavo nailed an uppercut and sent Rey back into the ring. Vicki Guerrero hit the ring and started screaming at Chavo to stop. Chavo went to get back in the ring but she pulled his leg and then slapped him. Rey then came out of nowhere taking Chavo down. Rey hammered at Chavo as Vicki screamed on at ringside.

The Finish:

Rey got on the apron and Chavo met him with a right hand and then a suplex back into the ring. Chavo rolled the hips and scored with two of the three amigos but Rey reversed the third into a head scissors. Rey then went for the Three Amigo’s and the crowd is booing. Rey scored with all three and then headed to the top rope. Vicki is still screaming at Rey. Vicki pushed Rey off the top rope, accidentally. Chavo then nailed Rey with a brain buster and went up top and came off with the Frog Splash as Vicki screamed at him. Chavo then covered Rey for the win.

Winner - Chavo Guerrero

The Aftermath:

Chavo made his way up the aisle and Vicki did not look pleased at what had gone down here tonight. Rey is still down in the ring as Chavo screamed at he brought this on himself.

Backstage:

King Booker is shown backstage. Queen Sharmell comes in and asks what he contemplates on this glorious evening. Booker said that Smackdown has become a much better place since he became the ruler of it, and it is imperative that he beats the peasant Batista tonight, and they return to Smackdown as the most powerful couple in Sport’s Entertainment. Edge then comes in, clapping. He said that was cute. Booker called Edge a rouge. Edge said he is the WWE Champion, and this is the WWE Women’s Champion. Booker asked what his point was. Edge said that makes them the most powerful couple in Sport’s Entertainment. He said he will bi### slap John Cena tonight, just like he did to his old man last week, but like the Yankee’s are doing to the Sox’s as we speak. Booker said that when he holds onto the World Title and Edge loses his, then Edge will come to Smackdown and kiss his royal feet. Edge said then if he keeps his title, and Booker loses his, then Booker will have to come to RAW and be his royal servant. Booker said Edge has a deal. Edge and Lita leave. Booker said at the end of the tonight, all of their royal subjects will be saying long live King Booker!

D-Generation X vs. The McMahon’s

The music of D-Generation X hit in the arena as Shawn Michaels and Triple H made their way to the ring for this tag team contest with Vince and Shane McMahon. Triple H did the “let’s get ready to suck it” bit before the McMahon’s made their way down to the ring, but stopped halfway down and went back to the stage, and out came the damn Spirit Squad. DX easily took care of the Spirit Squad and then the McMahon’s started to make their way to the ring, but then went back and out came Mr. Kennedy, and then William Regal and the United States Champion Finlay. DX hammered at Regal and Kennedy but then Finlay went to work with the shillelagh. John Cena vs. Edge ©

It’s time for the main event where the WWE Championship will be decided as Edge defends against John Cena, and these two men have a storied rivalry dating back to the start of the year, and Edge made things personal this past Monday on RAW by going to Cena’s home in Boston and slapping his father. Things are at fever pitch between these two men, and the title will be able to change hands on a disqualification after Edge’s cowardly actions during their last title match. I thought it was decent, save for a couple spots, such as:

-A couple awkward spots in the Big Show/Sabu match.
-The entire Booker/Batista match.

Now, the ECW match was okay despite the above, it just fell flat a little. The end spot, with the chokeslam through the table, was decent.

Booker/Batista, however, was crap. Just crap.

Let me go on record and say something that will surprise some of you, considering I've been a fan of his for the most part....

Batista, over time, and tonight especially, has really lost some stock with me because of his awful timing and coordination in the ring....

Now Chad and I had a debate over this last year, and we disagreed basically because Chad had an issue with how most of Batista's matches were no more than 10-15 minutes long. I said the length didn't bother me, AS LONG AS HE COULD HIT HIS TRADEMARK POWER SPOTS/MOVES because he's not the style of wrestler that's built for 20-30-minute matches on a regular basis.

Now, I'd still stand by that if he were getting better and hitting his power spots and the very BASIC offense that he has.

But he's not doing that consistently, and he wasn't before he was injured.

In short, as I watched that match tonight, I realized that he's no better in the ring, even at the basics, than he was before he got so over.

In other words, there's little to no difference between what we see in the ring now and what we saw from Deacon Batista.

The ONLY difference in Batista, at all, is that he's gotten over on being "himself," as Q has stated repeatedly. He got over before the split from Evolution because fans got to see Dave Batista himself, and that's why he's popular.

That's not going to cut it for me anymore, though. Tonight, he practically dropped Booker T when executing a Batista Bomb, and it wasn't Booker's fault. Just like last month at The Great American Bash, he practically dropped Mr. Kennedy, and it wasn't Kennedy's fault either.

I know on a move like a powerbomb, there's give and take from both guys and the guy taking the move helps elevate himself onto his opponent's shoulders so the guy executing it doesn't have to do all the lifting.

However, I don't know how many times, besides tonight and the Bash, that I've seen Batista damn near drop someone or barely get them up after they've done their part. When you look like he does, you should be able to lift your damn opponent the rest of the way up after he flips over.

That, and I'm basically sick of him doing moves in slow-motion, like the clothesline in the corner and some of the other BASIC shit he does. Hell, I watched him barely make it over onto his ass while taking a snap mare from Booker tonight.....

The guy was World Champion for damn near a year and still cannot wrestle a basic match without a hitch. That's pitiful.

WWE made the right choice in keeping the title on Booker. He may be sloppy in the ring himself, but he can still work a solid match when needed and has the athletic ability to bail himself out when needed.

Batista, hell, I'm beginning to think he has no athletic ability at all...

I don't even want to see that feud continue now after what I've seen. I'd have been in favor of Booker/Rey continuing, or Booker/Lashley or Booker/Undertaker.

Anyway, end of diatribe and on to my brief thoughts on the rest....

-Nice to see Chavo get a big win over Rey....... Solid match....

-Big Show and Sabu had some nice spots, and some rough ones, but one of the old ECW trademarks was pretty much whatever happened, happened. Either way, not bad.....

-Orton/Hogan came off better than expected. There weren't any pitiful spots because of Hogan's inability to move, and Orton bumped and played the heel well here. And we know the ending was no surprise....

-Foley/Flair was violent as hell. I think that, other than a table spot or FIRE, they did almost everything you can do in this type of match. But I like the fact that they didn't do EVERYTHING just for the sake of doing it.....

-Booker+Batista=AWFUL.

-I really liked how D-X/McMahon's was done. The involvement of other Superstars BESIDES the Spirit Squad was what was missing to begin with, and here we got Kennedy, Regal, Finlay and Umaga all helping the McMahon's, and Kane helping D-X.....

-Edge/Cena, in my opinion, was the match of the night and the best match those two have had thus far. There weren't any blown spots, they were in sync with one another from start to finish, and the ending was well done and a bit surprising.

Chad, you praised Cena/Triple H at WrestleMania, but this match, in my opinion, was better than that one even. I really thought that it was the best main event of a WWE pay-per-view this year.

I thought this was a solid event and I'm glad I ordered it...

Interesting to see so much hate for the Batista-Booker match, as I actually thought it was much better than I expected. I had very low expectations, so to see them at least try to have a good match despite both's limitations was impressive. I gave it ** and stand by that...Sure, there were rocky moments, but Batista has added some moves to his once extremely pitiful offense. I must point out that at times during a report, only one eye is on the action...that could lead to me missing some key fuck up from one of the guys...

I thought the most disappointing thing of the night was the Foley-Flair ending. What a shit ending! That could've been a four-star match had they let them go on. I hated that ending!

Orton-Hogan, Sabu-Show, McMahons-DX, and Rey-Chavo all either met or exceeded my expectations to a degree...

Cena vs. Edge was what I was always hoping it would be. I wanted this very match at this year's Royal Rumble. I thought they finally clicked in the ring and produced a very good main-event (but I don't think it even comes close to Undertaker-Angle from NWO and is still a 1/2 star behind Trips-Cena imo). This match kept this feud fresh for me...I want to see them do that again...Really entertaining, great drama at the end, and some close near falls...I couldn't ask for much more than maybe 4-5 more minutes...

Although it could have had a better ending the Batist/Booker match was very good.

I really enjoyed this year's SummerSlam. Not as good as last year's, but still decent. I'm really sorry that spoiler about Angle was false Snowman, that really ticked me off.
The 'I Quit' match was better then I thought it was going to be, I'm pretty impressed.

Chad pointed out Angle/Undertaker from No Way Out, which I had somehow forgot.

Okay, so I think Edge/Cena was the SECOND best pay-per-view main event of 2006 behind that one, and it is a hair above Cena/HHH at 'Mania (I can see why that match would be higher for you too Chad, as I've always rated matches I saw in person higher than a lot of others, even after seeing them on tape/DVD later on).

One other thing is that yes, Batista has added a few moves, including that Jackhammer and Full Nelson Slam he used last night.

He's still off, though. There was one spot early in the match where Booker went for a spinning heel kick and Batista was supposed to catch his leg Tazz-like and then flip him up into a powerslam.

He barely caught the leg, and then he barely got him up for the powerslam...

That was one spot, and another was a little later when they were setting up a series of counters. Batista was just..........lost.......

And of course, we have the fucked up Batista Bomb at the end.....

That aside, I agree with you on just about everything. I actually didn't mind the Foley/Flair ending too much because Flair took a beating from HELL, came back and doled out less punishment (still impressive though) on Foley, and Foley basically played the coward, which he does well as a heel......

I pretty much go along with Cav and Chad on all of this except to say: Give Batista a little slack coming back from an injury like that. If anything, it makes me believe he rushed himself back a little too fast. He simply wasn't prepared for this match.

That match was...meh.

Orton-Hogan was still a little uglier, especially the win for Hogan. I hope he's done and gone. I was rooting for Orton all the way believe it or not, even though I knew he was doomed, just as HBK was the year before.

Damn Hogan...

Flair- Foley was great. The ending sucked. I'm with Chad on that one. This was a night of bullshit endings. Did anyone else notice that? Dusty Rhodes must have been the booker on some of these matches.

Sorry that Angle was nowhere to be seen. For him to not be part of a major PPV like this is simply criminal. It makes me again wonder: What is health condition really like?

Other than that, I felt this PPV delivered. It's been a long, boring summer and it felt like this PPV would never get here. I think it delivered the goods for the most part, although I'm glad I didn't get ripped off for $40 for it. That's nuts.

Hopefully now we begin moving forward to some much needed new and fresh material all across the boards.

Cena-Edge has been going on for months. Last night's match was really good for them but I'm ready to see them both move on. I doubt that's going to happen. Ok. One more month, and have a big blow off in a cage or HIAC and finish it.

So I guess Rey is done for six months now. Going out for knee surgery. That's a huge blow to SD to lose someone like that. Rey deserves maximum salute for his work this past year. He's gone way beyond any call of duty.

It was nice to see DX get mixed up with guys from both brands. IT's about time Vince used his authority to have guys from all three shows back him up. We need to see more of that. DX is the kind of thing that doesn't follow rules and doesn't stay confined. DX should be violating the brand split and doing whatever the hell they like.

At THIS point, I'm going to be looking to see Orton start getting involved against DX under Vince. Umaga is obviously another new Vince troop and I want to see SD guys like Kennedy involved. Cheat on the brand split as far as DX is concerned. Have them invade shows, including ECW. Have them start shit.

This week on ECW I should see DX "invade" and cause hijinx and get revenge on Big Show, for example.

They can really go to the moon with DX as far as I'm concerned.

Good PPV overall.

I have to say now, that while I wouldn't complain if Cena and Edge moved on to new feuds, I really liked their match last night and it gave it longer legs. They needed to deliver last night, and they damn sure did.

Therefore, I wouldn't mind seeing things continue a little while longer.

Does anyone know for sure if Rey is going out now or not? I figured that he may have more than one match with Chavo...

Or maybe Chavo attacks him this week and "puts him on the shelf?"

^The rumor is the Chavo-Rey feud will continue to No Mercy, where Rey will have his last match before having whatever surgery he needs done.

Overall, it was a pretty good PPV. Batista/Booker wasn't great, it was decent at best. I still say it should've been gimmicked, but I guess with an Extreme Rules and an I Quit match, there was no room for it to have a gimmick. They'll meet again, and I suspect we'll get a gimmick then. I'm still hoping for that Booker defending against Batista at Survivor Series, in a Hell in a Cell match myself.

Hogan sucks. No good came of having him go over Orton. Total bullshit.

The rest was pretty good. Didn't like the fact that it went off at about 15 minutes till 10. Nitro/Benjamin could have had a nice little match in there, especially if you cut the useless diva bullshit that happened backstage.

Hope Michaels is ok.

Hope Michaels is ok.

Word from backstage at SummerSlam last night was that Shawn Michaels' arm injury was said to be fine after the tag match against the McMahons. Although there was concern from Michaels when he tweaked it, he was said to be walking around backstage and moving his arm without any problems.

Kurt Angle was going to compete in the ECW match at SummerSlam, but instead he decided his injury was too serious. Smart move on his part, I still would have liked to see him in action though, or atleast a backstage apperance.

The Hogan and Orton thing was HORRENDOUS, how do we belive a 20 something year old in very good shape loses to a 50 something year old with a severe knee injury and DEFEATS him with a leg drop....truley Horrendous. You know many people accuse Triple H of being a bit cocky but he has in fact jobbed to Batista and Shelton 3 times, Cena 3 times, and even Edge once, so he looks like a fucking samaration compared to Hogan.

I really am against Cena and have disliked him since his jump to RAW, however ill admit he had a ok match with Edge, just enough for me not to shit all over him. Although I wanted Edge to win I will admit Cena has improved.

Over all it was a good PPV.
